    I had never heard of the 5 Tibetan rites until yesterday when I was reading the book Breath. This book just kind of jumped out from the shelf to me when I was at the airport recently and I knew I had to buy it. I have been having problems with hyperventilating, anxiety, and insomnia for years and just recently started following breathing exercises and yoga on RUclips. I was recently diagnosed with fibromyalgia and searching the net I have learned that breathing and gentle exercises are a good help for my condition. Every day a read a chapter from the book Breath and I am learning how years of breathing through my mouth may be the cause of many of my health complaints. I am now nose breathing all the time that Iam conscious! yesterday's chapter, the author told of him starting his day and that he was starting as usual with the five Tibetans rites, because without doing these exercises every day they was no point in carrying on with the nose breathing. He explained many things about these exercises but the main thing hey says in order to benefit from the nasal breathing you have to practise these rights every say. I am feeling positive,

      I'll have to check out Breath!, another couple to check out, 1.) Ancient Secret of the Fountain of Youth, by Peter Kelder, it's all about the 5 rites, very cool book and a quick easy read, and 2.) is, Jumpstart Your Metabolism, by Pam Grout, which is 100% about breath, breathing and healing yourself through breath. It's also about metabolism, but in a round-a-bout way. Great book. I feel like we're all powerful enough to do so much more than simply heal ourselves if we tune in the right way.

    Thank you Andrea for The 5 Tibetan Rites video! It is just like the movements we did when I practiced in person with a group. It’s been a long time since then (it was held in Decatur, Georgia, USA and I moved to Mexico in 2017. With 2 full time jobs i rarely have a moment to practice, now that is low season on the island (Cozumel) and my other job, as an SLP working remotely for school districts in the USA, I have committed myself to practice every day. And wow! What a difference! I am 70 years old now, in very good shape, but these exercises have made me stronger (some of my muscles were a bit sore for the first two sessions)..the soreness is gone and better yet, my bowels are in much better shape! ❤

I had to Google and found your video. I'm now up to 18 (luckily the landlady warned me to take it slowly!). It's possible that that is the reason for the spinning direction, but when I think of the anatomy and function of the vestibular apparatus, we should probably vary the direction of the spinning on different days to challenge the balance in both directions! Andrea :)

    Any modification or advice for the first exercise? Unable to do due to dizziness- No problem with the other exercises.

    • @BarreWithAndrea
      @BarreWithAndrea  6 месяцев назад

      If you have vertigo or dizziness, you may need to avoid the first exercise for now, OR try a couple of circles (ie 1-3) slowly, and see how you go, and build up very slowly from there. Have you had your dizziness checked out? It's important to know if it is caused by BPPV or another cause. If it is BPPV, seeing a vertigo practitioner will be able to give you some exercises to help reset, and reduce or eliminate the vertigo. Definitely worth looking into if you haven't already, as it can be quite a quick fix if it's BPPV and if you can find a practitioner who works with this condition. Good luck, I hope it settles soon, Andrea x

I find the second rite the most difficult as I am not able to bring the legs back up so far 😢 In the 4th rite, my legs have a space between my calves and the floor…is that ok? I read that when you live in the northern hemisphere the spin should be to the right and vice versa for the Southern Hemisphere. This reportedly has to do with the spin of the earth depending on which hemisphere you live. How true is this? And does this really make any significant difference? In this video the lady spins to the left. Is she doing this on the Southern Hemisphere? Moreover, some practitioners do the 4th rite without coming to a stop on the buttocks with every round. Does this make any difference? What about synchronizing the inward breath with the upswing and the outward breath with the downswing for rites 2-5? Does this make any difference? Thanks for your anticipated comments.

    • @BarreWithAndrea
      @BarreWithAndrea  3 года назад +1

      Hi Ordep,
      Yes, in my learnings, I understand that you can spin in different directions depending on which hemisphere you live in. I"m in Australia, so down south! I don't actually think it makes a difference really though, and I like to spin differently on different days...when I think about the anatomy of the vestibular apparatus, it's good to challenge the balance in both directions, so I believe, anatomy wise, that it's the spin that in beneficial, no matter what direction. In regards to the 4th rite, people should do what works for them, so for some stopping on the buttocks will work better, and for others, there is no need. You can certainly change the synchronisation of the breath in the rites,...again, I don't believe it is important, as Yoga and Pilates often cue opposite breaths with movement...the most important thing is just to breathe, no matter which way! Hope this helps, Andrea x
