ABBA have sold over 400 million singles and albums, which is higher than Madonna's 300 million sales. Obviously, both are incredibly successful, so it's silly to argue about it, but yes, ABBA have sold more than Madonna. But seriously who cares lol, both are great, and both are wildly successful.

When she revived this song on her Rebel Heart Tour in 2015, it was the first time she had performed it live since 1987! It reminds me a lot of what Enrique Inglesias did in the late 1990s with Bailamos. Very Spanish and sensual, one is about a love affair with a place, the other is a love affair with dance, both personified as lovers. Magnificent!

She grew up near Detroit, Michigan in the city of Pontiac and the suburb of Rochester and listened to and was influenced by the Motown sound.
This song was inspired by her then husband actor Sean Penn and she dedicated her album True Blue to him and she called him "the coolest guy in the universe.
This is the reason why Madonna is considered the Queen of Pop because of catchy melodies, harmonies and hooks in her songs and her reinventing looks, sounds and visuals. That's a few of the reasons why we love her.
Ironically during this same time Cyndi Lauper had a single out called True Colors and she had Change Of Heart single out around the same time as Madonna's Open Your Heart single. They have been compared quite a few times during the 80s for their both being women with wild, outrageous and quirky looks and styles and for both being in pop music.
You should react to Madonna's performances of this song in her Who's That Girl Tour and the Rebel Heart Tour. You will love them.
You should react to her songs from the very beginning in order to appreciate her evolution as an artist.
React to her songs Everybody, Burning Up, Physical Attraction, Holiday, Borderline, Lucky Star, Crazy For You, Dress You Up, Gambler, Open Your Heart, Who's That Girl, Causing A Commotion, Look Of Love, Express Yourself, Cherish, Oh Father, Keep It Together, Hanky Panky, Rescue Me, This Used To Be My Playground, Erotica, Deeper And Deeper, Bad Girl, Fever, Rain, I'll Remember, Secret, Bedtime Story, Human Nature, I Want You, You'll See, One More Chance, You Must Love Me, Don't Cry For Me Argentina, Ray Of Light, Drowned World/Substitute For Love, Power Of Goodbye, Nothing Really Matters, Beautiful Stranger, American Pie, Don't Tell Me, What It Feels Like For A Girl, Die Another Day, American Life, Hollywood, Love Profusion, Nothing Fails, Sorry, Get Together, 4 Minutes, Give It 2 Me, Miles Away, Give Me All Your Luvin, Girl Gone Wild, Turn Up The Radio, Living For Love, Ghosttown, Bitch I'm Madonna, Medellin, Crave, Future, I Rise, Dark Ballet, God Control, Batuka, I Don't Search I Find and Come Alive please.

I HAD to watch your reaction to this! I wondered what you'd make of her old her old stuff and look. This was when I was little and I idolised her, did all her dance routines etc. Hope you like it.

My favourite album of hers. She was in a very happy place writing this, she was married to Sean Penn. It is pop perfection, all killer no filler.
She is such a chameleon & lead the way for so many female artists 💗

A bit of trivia: When this song came out, MTV ran a contest for amateurs to make a video for it (and the winner was the "official" video, it debuted on MTV, and actually played in regular rotation for a while). I guess that after some time it became problematic that Madonna wasn't in her own video, so they made this one.

I remember when MTV opened up submissions from viewers for the video concept to True Blue. They played the song for 24 hours and then later showed all the submissions from viewers. Definitely needed a break from the song for awhile LOL ultimately she went with her own video concept
