Thank you very much for playing this game. This was one of the very first games I ever played as a kid, and as silly as it sounds, this game TERRIFIED me as a child. Especially the green undead slime monster dude guy at 1:08:16 That gave me SO many fucking nightmares and probably actually traumatized me as a kid. The way it screams and jumps out at you fucking horrified me. It's a silly puzzle game with a lot of side stories, and side quests(saving the skeleton in the library, finding out how the kid you "killed" ended up in the house by reading news clippings in the attic, saving Gahan by finding a cure to his split personality, and many more) really both fascinated and legitimately haunted me as a kid. To add to the scary factor, I got this game as a bootleg CD my Dad found at a garage sale, which is like the beginning to ever creepy pasta with a game ever lol.
I loved this game as a kid too, same thoughts on the zombie as well haha. Did you ever figure out how to tell Good Gahan from Evil Gahan? As far as i can tell, nobody on the Internet knows.
Apparently somebody figured it out after all these years ruclips.net/video/fenDX3a7ILE/видео.html It has to do with the way his feet point and the sound he makes when you click on him. If he points his feet west and goes wub wub wub wub, it's the good gahan, and also if he points his feet east and he goes eee-eee-eee-eee-eee it's the good gahan, but when it's not those combinations it's the evil gahan.
YES. THIS GAME FUCKING SCARED THE HELL OUT OF ME AS A KID. It's still disturbing to this day! I remember the shark was what really scared me. It would just show up and make upsetting noises and then curse you, which also terrified me because of the laughter.
Fun fact: the outcome of a game of Tic-tac-toe can be determined by the first 2 moves. If player 1 selects the middle and player 2 selects a corner, the game will always end in a tie (unless someone makes a mistake blocking). If player 1 selects the middle and player 2 selects a space directly above, below or on either side of the middle, one of the players will always win (usually the player with the middle space). You may be asking, "what if player 1 doesn't choose the middle?" If I were player 2, depending on which space player 1 chose on the outside, I would choose either the center space or a space directly adjacent to player 1.
my opinion, someone (not Gaian obviously RIP) needs to make a 2000's live action version of this like a VR version with real people as gaian and the monsters. i;m down for that
i used to play this game all the time as a kid with my sister. we had the CD version and played it on a windows ME computer. it would ALWAYS crash when trying to play the movies, and i dont know if the save feature even worked. i will say though, this game is HAAARD. even on the easiest difficulty, we could never beat it, even trying for *hours*. im not even convinced that i can be beaten, and i dont want to google it to find out until i try harder on my own. but yeah, this game is wild. the occasional hyper fast animations were freaky as hell on a CRT in the dark as well. it was a great touch, and im not sure if it was intentional, or a byproduct of faster computers over time.
Despite the fact that it was supposed to be scary, I couldn't help but admire Gahan Wilson's art direction. Why can't there be anymore artists like this?
this game was fun but unnerving as a kid. when suddenly the animations jump from 5 to 100fps, being that there was no real common framerate between things, or so it seemed. it used to scare the SHIT out of me when evil gahan on the monsters would fuck with me, lmao. playing this game in the dark as a kid was creepy as hell. i'm also fully convinced that this game is nigh unbeatable, and it'll be my life mission to try and beat it under my own brain power.
@@DaarthPingas Having played this game a *lot* as a kid, I definitely agree with the way the animations speed up and slow down almost randomly. It's definitely possible to beat, I've done it multiple times - check the attic, drop items out the window in the music room to get items back, don't open the casket (it's where the zombie creature lives and will often activate him in the house), often there's a key inside the birds foot pie, also the can (use the swiss army knife to open it), also the teddy bear... don't click on the rug in the library, don't piss off the gorilla or it'll break free of the cage and start roaming around the house as a monster. Giving an item to Gahan is always a risk, I was never able to figure out which was the good Gahan and which was the evil Gahan. That's the stuff just off the top of my head.
Ohhh you did not came accross that green skeleton zombie man combined with the sound played when he appears, jesus F christ! Even to this day, 20 years + later, I still have goosebumps because of it!
i never played this game but damn if watching it doesn't make me feel like a kid again. Fuck man, I miss being a kid. Especially around this time of year. Costumes, hay rides, actually cool temperatures in October and early November, being scared at not-so-scary movies, enjoying Are You Afraid of the Dark, hand turkeys in November with festive school decorations, getting excited for the holidays, being excited for decorating for Christmas, colder and longer winters to enjoy, onesies and many blankets i used to have that time of year, writing letters for santa. I believed in santa for a long time. I think until i was 13. I think its something my mom wanted me to keep. I'm surprised I hadn't found I by other means. I remember I wasnt very upset. I had noticed I was getting fewer things. Things were and still are tough. I actually think i felt bad. But thats a personal story. Wow what rant. Just reminiscing.
Vinny you should absolutely stream this game again, but next time click the Help button on the main menu, the game has a full interactive and voiced tutorial on how everything works. Gahan explains almost everything. Also the phone in the foyer can give you hints. Also also you can click on almost anything, and if you want to identify what exactly an item is you can give it to the painting holding the skull in the library and he'll tell you what it is. Also no two runs are the same, you'll run into different members of the rotating cast each time, and a lot of random junk can happen if you click on things. You missed an entire room in this run, there's a bathroom under the stairs in the basement. It's a tiny door in the distance. And yes, there's two ways to permanently kill characters, hand them bombs or lure them into the compactor in the basement.
That intro, no matter how stupid, brings back extremely fearful memories from my early childhood. I don’t care if it was extremely dated by the time it came out (much more when I watched around when I was six or seven in 2009-2010), it freaked me out.
This reminds me of that one old Dracula game, Dracula's Secret I believe. Vinny should stream that, loved the hell out of that game despite being a bit crap.
Do yourself a favor and look up Gahan Wilson's comics. He blends dark, macabre humor with a gentle sweetness that's hard to describe. This game doesn't do him justice.
i think the online version has a download link so you could play it in dosbox. either that, or find an installable CD-rom rip and run it in compatibility mode. that's the best i can tell you.
I played this expecting something more in style of Gahan Wilson's cartoons but it's not like that at all. It doesn't really have his macabre sense of humor. Was surprised to see that you played it. Unfortunately Wilson has by now developed Alzheimer's and his family is trying to get him admitted to a care facility. So there is a depressing endnote to that.
