    Welcome to Max's Cognac Review. I am an avid cognac enthusiast and explorer. There is very little information and opinion on quality cognacs so I felt compelled to share my nose and thoughts. The goal is to help educate and assist others in making the right decisions for their palate and wallets. Please enjoy it with a wee dram!

    Hello Max I consider my father to be a cognac connoisseur. He has been in the spirit industry his whole life, and he definitely is a cognac man. He swears by martell cordon blue. I will never forget when he had a poker game and invited all his best friends he decided to open a remy martin king Louis a $1500.00 bottle. I ask him the next day " how was it"? His reply was "cordon blue will piss on that" lol. Max can you review Martell blue swift next? Keep up the great work

      I don't agree with you.
      I had tried sevral version of Cordon blue, and it was great.
      But i will say not only Remy extra but also Remy xo(old version) piss on those.
      Of couse it depends on indivisual bias.

    Very good review on this, very objective and I agree your taste note! Personal I think it's characteristics are better than XO. I had two different limited edition ones and I feel they do taste the same as the standard bottle, but to me the magnum bottle from early 2000s taste quite different, not better but just different, maybe due to the storage.

      瞿开一 thanks you! It was a pleasure to review. Martell is certainly my favorite Cognac house out of the Big 4. Although Cognac houses do their best to keep the same tasting profiles over the years I’m sure there is a big difference between older expressions vs new. Unfortunately I feel like newer expressions are probably made with younger and younger Cognacs as they struggle to keep up with demand. It would be really interesting to taste a 2000 Cordon Bleu with a 2020 side by side. I will try and get my hands on an older bottling! Cheers

    Well 140 dollar bottle of Cognac :). Your so lucky man . I just hope you can put it to the side and drink it in small amounts . I would have a hard time making it last if its that good. Then again its only money and you can't take it with you when you die so might as well buy something you can enjoy. Thanks for the review man.

You know how I feel about Courvoisier do you think id like something like this? I like Courvoisier better then Henny personally. I just like the liveliness of it over other Cognacs I have tried. Also are those online stores really worth the 20 + dollar shipping?

      Wow, you must be an amazing teacher! What a gift! hehe. Martell Cordon Bleu is probably my favorite Cognac. Please do not mix it with soda or tonic. Do not get me wrong, it will make an amazing cocktail! However, aged Cognacs like Cordon Bleu are so delicate and nuanced you will literally dilute and mute the experience it has to offer. Mixed drinks are best with VS or VSOP Cognacs (aged significantly less). After you have truly experienced it neat in all its glory it is "ok" to try it in a cocktail. I hope this helps... You always here the politically correct answer "Drink it however you want there is no wrong way to drink it"... blah blah blah. Cognac and Whiskey embody somebody's life's work. If they saw you mixing their precious creation with coke they would surely roll in their graves. 🥂

      Hey Alonzo, thanks for checking out the review. That is a fairly tough question but I am partial to Martel and Cordon Bleu. Considering the fact that Hennessy XO is priced substantially higher than Cordon Bleu, the tie definitely goes to Martell. One things for sure, I can say without a sliver of hesitation that Martell XO is hands down the best readily available XO you can get your hands on. It is not cheap, but worth every penny! I hope this helps! Cheers

    Wow; 100 of 100! Will have to try this Cognac. I notice that you used the Neat glass. I often interchange the Glencairn, Neat and the Norlan glasses with my spirits. They all beat brandy snifters that so called Cognac "connoisseurs" seem to defer to. What are your thoughts on this?

      Best glass to use is a tulip glass, not a snifter, in Cognac they use the tulip glass. Been there several times, that is what is used. Riedel makes them.

    Hi Max I’m a little confused. When you mentioned that cognac doesn’t age in the bottle but then said XO Cigna’s are the exception.
    So what your saying is if I were to buy any XO cognac today and open it in 2029 it would taste so much more better ?

    • @MaxsCognacReview
      @MaxsCognacReview  5 лет назад +2

      Hey Dom, thanks for checking out the review. Spirits really do not age in the bottle. The real aging is done in oak barrels. Some say after decades of bottle aging a slight difference can be detected but I can't say for sure one way or the other. As a collector item, the bottle would certainly appreciate in value but I'd stick to wine if you want to see a dramatic shift in flavor aging bottles yourself. Cheers

    • @MaxsCognacReview
      @MaxsCognacReview  5 лет назад +1

      They are rare, but buying vintage dated or in the very least, age statement editions are a good way to go. Courvoisier 12 year and 21 year Cognac are a great example of this. Cognacs are typically blended so it may be hard to come by but certainly worth the effort if you plan on collecting. Special editions like the Hennessy Master Blenders are a great way to go as well. The 1rst Master Blender originally retailed at $80 and are selling in the secondary market and retail for $400 today. I am sitting on a case of Hennessy Master Blender #1 Hahaha. Cheers

    I bought one in a bar and to me this may have been a fake bottle ... the tip off is the overpowering smell of alcohol that I don’t ever recall of Cordon Bleus would CB drinkers out there agree?

    • @ryanvallieu594
      @ryanvallieu594 2 года назад +1

      That was probably cut with something cheap if not just fake all around. I don't get "alcohol" on the nose. First hit for me is the sweet and floral note when sniffing the bottle.

      Hey Bertalan, thanks for checking out the review. I do factor in price point and grade (VSOP/XO). Needless to say XOs will be better quality than VSs, so my grades are a reflection of how a cognac fairs compared to others in its same category/price point. Cheers

      @@MaxsCognacReview Thank you for the explanation, i got the courvoisier 21 yesterday, as i remember it got 85 points from you, didn't try it yet, so basically if this would be a vsop or a xo with a lower price it could get a 100 points or almost 100, and it doesn't mean that the Martell Cordon Bleu is a lot better just because it got 100, just that it is perfect for its price range, more than the courvoisier 21 in it's price range, am I right? :) Cheers

    • @MaxsCognacReview
      @MaxsCognacReview  5 лет назад +1

      Hey Bertalan, I believe I gave the Courvoisier 21 a 95/100, which is a very high ranking. Cognacs are typically blended with many different barrels/years and it really rounds out the rough edges. The single 21 year was good, but it was not as smooth as your average XO. The Martell Cordon Blue is the perfect blended Cognac. It is incredibly smooth and well rounded and I feel like it is the best XO grade in its class. I hope that helps and I hope you enjoy the 21 year! It is a treat! Cheers
