It's 7 months old now. 106 GB of data on the hard drive. Boots up in about a minute or a minute and a half if I've set applications to reopen on startup. (Measuring time from pressing button, till all the icons and menubar icons load) It would start up in 40-ish seconds when it was new. :)
Simply, the over all package of high quality build combined with OS X. One of the things I really admire is the ever-responsive trackpad. It may seem like a small feature but being such an important interface between user and machine, it really counts. Another little thing is the way OS X doesn't "panic" when an app is unresponsive, i.e. the rest of the OS doesn't freeze. Also, Apple's implementation of multi tasking since Lion (full-screen Spaces) really impressed me.
You would be able to. Do a Google search on converting DVD to mp4 on mac to see the different ways / applications available etc. Mind you, be sure you're getting the model with an optical disc drive. The new Macs don't have those. Also, I'm fairly certain that ripping DVDs is possible on Windows, too, if that's all you want to do.
I've noticed my replies to a couple of comments have disappeared after the username change. For anyone with similar questions, yes, the OS X welcome/intro video has been ditched ever since Lion (probably to reduce the size of the download file). And also the disk can read and write (or "burn") CDs and DVDs, but not Blu-ray. It isn't a problem for me since I don't use any optical discs anyway.
A friend of mine uses FCP on an older MBP13 with 4GB RAM and OSX 10.8. It manages. I haven't yet used Final Cut extensively on my MacBook. But I have used After Effects and iMovie and the RAM use does go over 4GB but with space to spare if I need to use photoshop for editing stills or need to use the browser. So, while it will manage with 4GB, I would definitely recommend 8GB of RAM to give a resource intensive program like FCP the resources it wants. :)
If I'm honest, Windows 8 really has impressed me with its fluidity and multi tasking. What they need to fix is that bifurcated UI of "Regular desktop" and "Metro" (I know they've changed the name of that, but I can't recall what it was). I like the direction MS is heading with Windows 8 though, they do have some way to go before I find it better than OS X. As with anyone, this is just my personal take on the two OS's. OS X just works better for me than Windows. :)
I love you vid (: could you pls help me choose between higher Macbook Air 13", higher Macbook Pro 13", or Macbook Pro 13" with retina.. Im gonna use it for college things (words etc without video editing), web surfing, listen to musics, youtube-ing.. Thanks before (:
Would you say I need the 4GB ram for FCP X or 8GB? I currently have an i3 iMac with 4GB ram, and Final Cut Pro X copes well - but I was wondering if this would be the same with the Macbook pro?
Only 1 Question why are you buying such a expensiv laptop/macbook pro you could get the hardware in a normal Windows 7 laptop or computer much cheaper. so why do you buy this maybe as a prestige objekt ?
I'm sorry if my nails disturb you. I am quite lazy with them. So... let's hope we never meet (or at least, that you never have to see my hands again :) )
