"Night Surf" is an instrumental piece written, performed, and recorded by Ben Shepherd, and used as the soundtrack companion for a film short directed by Henry Shepherd. The work ran as an opening to Soundgarden's live shows during the '94 Superunknown U.S. tour only, and otherwise had never been available, or shown since, until now. Those who were in attendance, and attentive to the intro at a Soundgarden concert during this tour have been the only ones fortunate enough to view and hear "Night Surf". The song had never been released before, and now it is newly remastered for the 'Echo Of Miles: Scattered Tracks Across the Path' box set collection of non-album tracks, and rarities. The film had been buried in storage, and only recently was it located, dusted off, and remastered for its debut here, online, or anywhere after 21 years!" - Kim Thayil
Wow,thanks👍
Thanks.
I saw them in '94 in Canada, but umm wasnt exactly "attentive" if you catch my drift...
Thanks for that info 👍
So cool they worked with Blue Man Group. 😉💙
Beautiful bass
Superunknown is one of the greatest albums ever and Soundgarden are one of the best bands ever!
*the best band ever
@xghostcoffee Okay, here's the shit you're going to get for saying that - I agree. I think. But, MORE creative and innovative than Zeppelin? Wow. That's high praise. I always thought Kim Thayil's dislike of the lighter side of things prevented Soundgarden from exploring as diverse a terrain as Zeppelin did. This was something Chris was able to explore in his solo work, though. I loved SG from the beginning and bought their first two EPs on vinyl. I saw them live at the Bumbershoot festival in 1990 and Chris was a living rock deity. Just an absolute force.
It's bizarre and doesn't sound at all like traditional Soundgarden, but I kinda dig it! The keyboard hook keeps playing over and over in my head just like it did in the song. I admire Soundgarden for sharing this with us. I'm willing to bet they all had a good laugh when they found and watched this after so many years! :D
Crazy stuuff
Do you mean Soundgarden has a "tradicional sound"?
@@ederrocha7758 No, I meant that this song does not sound like anything Soundgarden had recorded before.
@@antoniojosenovotavarestava3020
Yes, experimental.
I sang riders on the storm along with this magical tune. Fits perfectly. This is psychedelia at its best. Syd Barret and the Doors would sound exactly like this.
Typical Soundgarden :) catchy, alternative guitar riffs, weird-ass music videos, trippy bass lines... it has it all!
This was played at live shows in '94. Parts of the video were also used in the "My Wave" video
thedude5000 YES SOUNDGARDEN MY WAVE 1994 MUSIC VIDEO USING THE NIGHT SURF CLIPS :) VERY ARTISTIC AND CREATIVE , KINDA DARK , GRUNGY AND OVERALL PSYCHEDELIC MUSIC. SO ALTERNATIVE
I need a 1 hour loop of this. Is so mesmerizing
THIS HAS HAUNTED ME SINCE THAT TOUR THANK YOU!
Matt Cameron is so underrated as a drummer
Very 1960's/surfing sounding. I waited 5 years for a follow up to King Animal. RIP Chris
Wow. I remember this playing before a show I saw in Houston a long time ago. They had this playing on a screen in front of the stage and if I recall correctly they were playing live behind it. Really awesome to see this again.
They opened with "Jesus Christ Pose" as the screen was lifted when I saw them in Montreal in the summer of 1994
I can't remember the opening song. Wish I had the setlist. Man, that was the summer after I graduated high school. Suddenly feels so long ago.
Psychedelic and weird, great bass lines!
+Fabio Guadagnuolo yeah, like this bass
Sounds like a Doors song
I think I'm stoned now. Thanks soundgarden.
Im so happy i got to hear this. Spooky, dreamy, weird, abstract. Music is pretty amazing...
Ben Shepherd makes the most interesting tunes. I can't even tell what they are, I guess they fall under the "rock" category, but just barely.
Sorta psychedelic indie rock
I played "Hater" a lot, Ben Shepperd songs were my fave
Right away knew that it is Hunter Benedict Shepherd's work. His "In Deep Owl" album is hauntingly beautiful!
Umm this is fucking awesome. Psychedelic, trippy. I like it. Ben is a great musician.
Genuis! Grunge is about to make a come back mark my word. Love, the girl with the most cake 💋
This is very deep,we are so lost death that we've gone away from the dawn itself. This reminds me of what Jim said in one of his songs before he passed,no eternal reward now will forgive us for wasting the dawn.
More of this, please.
SoundGarden is one of those bands that with RARELY exceptions ALL the members are top level musicians, just like the Beatles or PinkFloyd, where all the members were talented and multifaceted.
The bassist (Ben Shepherd) is a monster, the drummer (Matt Cameron) is a killer, the guitarist (Kim Thayil) is breathtaking in the tuning and complexity of the riffs, and Cornell sings like a God of Olympus, as well as playing very well, it's a band that has everything in terms of music, composition, chords, sonority, it's like a classical music show where the Maestro is rock n roll.
This defines soundgarden
So haunting!
I never hear this one. Thank you. RIP. Chris 17-05-17
I wish they'd done more instrumentals...I adore this....it illustrates again what musical masters all these four guys were.
I dig the vibe.
Sounds more like the Doors, just missing Chris' best Jim Morrison impression.
I agree. Doors mixed with Bjork)
The smiths ,nirvana , soundgarden , metalica are my favorite bands
@@kieliton-vh6rx ok
Real Day Manzarek psychedelic vibes here..love it ,the visuals are stunning .x
Ben, you're a hella of an artist, thank you man, i love your work with Hater and Wellwater Conspiracy and even 600 school and March of Crimes, hope you're doing fine, cheers!
totally ben shepherd...should be in a tarantino film
Ben, you will never cease to amaze me (you, too, Henry; and of course, SG ;)
Sweet sweet song... I like that stuff, even if it's not like the other musics, I really apreciate !
Great track!!
This is the Soungarden alterego !!!
My favorite Superunknown song along with Black Hole Sun,I think the whole album is from the perspective of that kid!
Wow!.. someone must of' slipped some happy acid in my coffee this morning cuz I am ta-rippin' on this Soungarden video/ Ben Shepherd instrumental/ short film...! It's really pretty mesmerizing , and I instantaneously thought of the late, great Ray Manzerak when I heard the first note of that Vox sounding organ! Very cool, Ben ... Great Job!!!!! Also loved seeing the Soundgarden video of the Doors song ," Waiting for the Sun" live in Germany, fantastic rendition, blew me away.😘🤩🎸🎹🎥☮
This a perfect sound for a Lsd Night Surf
Es hipnótica. La puedo estar escuchando todo el día.
this song does have a cool vibe, it would be really cool if Chris Cornell would write lyrics for it.
Enjoying this mystical ride right now instead of concentrating at work. Fuck work anyway.
Wow what did just happen? Nice. Thank you Ben!
Haunting!!
Nice song
psycho soundgarden ! yeah !! good mix !!
Much as their music wasn't really psychadelic, per se, this video as well as their backgrounds at concerts always had a psychadelic feel with the sepia tones.
More ben sheperd stuff please.
Man,I love Ben's songs!
he has a great solo album out maybe 5 years ago or so. Very, very different sounding and his voice is really good.
90's quality in a nutshell.
Nutshell, my other fav.
This is an awesome instrumental! 👐 reminds me of a classic Clutchy Hopkins piece. ♥️
Awesome! :)
Henry Shepherd must have been watching some Kenneth Anger movies. First impression that came to mind. Love the band and the songs.
Spatial!!
For some reason, the second half of the video reminds me of the game called Limbo
Nice 60's jam.
Great!
3:31
Cool!!
Damn I got sent back to the 70's.
xxxx
This isn't incognito mode.
exelant
Love it yeahhhhhhhhh
very good.
Cool
Briza !!
It sounds Pink Floyd performance! Great Soundgarden...
So this is where the guy in the My Wave video came from.
It's good.
Like the Doors
nice
back to the 60ies baby :-p
Oh yes I love this 2:05
💪
Bem Loko 🤟☠️
Man !
this guy is a little genius
This doesn’t even sound like them but I somehow still really like it. It’s got an indie slacker vibe like Beck or Pavement
wonder if there ever were any lyrics Cornell wrote for this
Lyrics AND the visual would give too much awayyyyyyy
Let's suppose it's night and then a blue guy appear in from of you. He has a hourglass and he flips it and for some reason it makes him very happy he cracks a scary smile. What do you do?
a) run away
b)run as fast as possible!
c) listen to what he have to you
Correct answer: of cour C
Its like someone made an epsiode of Pete and Pete, after drinking too many milkshakes.
This reminds me some kind of pink Floyd
+Adrian Banda Baggins or Doors
Right on...late 60's. Piper At the Gates of Dawn, Ummagumma (ish).
Base is a little like the intro from Switch Opens
🌱Sound-garden 🌏🌎🌍
Makes me want to buy a copper push bike very cool.
the blue guy is from the my wave video doesn´t it
Dude man that's some heavy shit . . . what's it all mean?
It's like NIN and the Doors had a child!
Contains some parts of My Wave video...
This reminds me of the Doors a little
really ok
The blue man returns
I use too have a bannana boat bikes this looks likes Chris Cornell. Late 1970,s they had these bikes.I could of been a kids likes Chris Cornell riding a bikes with him.4 years apart. Nice sadly songs.👨👧👍👍💘💘.
The Nirvana vibes I'm still getting from this... Damn, what has music become?
Like- I'm an ARMY (BTS fan) and I do enjoy listening to other artists, but what happened to this kind of music making?
This was a fucking musical revolution/evolution!!
Who needs acid trippy stuff 🤪🥴🤯
We All need SOUNDGARDEN!!!
🧜🏼♂️
Soundgardens' psychedelic stoner Ben Shepherd song jajaja
How come there's an album called night surf?
I love Chris Cornell, but I’m not a Soundgarden fan, at all... Because all of their songs depress me. However, this is one of the best Surf Rock songs, I’ve ever heard! A bit of “Walk Don’t Run” vibe. 🤙
pavement
would be a great ost for Chernobyl...
New to me. I know, Flutter exposed it 5 years ago. I didn't know. Pretty fucking cool, eh?
there is nothing soundgardeny about this song
TheEschwank02 That's what I like about Soundgarden, their songs aren't the same over and over again, each song is different.
Actually is very SG
This is full Ben Shepherd
