I was scared of choosing the wrong major ! I'm about to become a freshman on college and I went for biology which I'm happy because she did the same thing!!
Can you go into detail about the dental process (taking the DAT, community service, recommendations letter etc)?
what score did you have on act or dat? And what college did you go to before dentist school?
Would love to hear an update from her now since she's probably graduate now?
Thank you so much for this video. I'll be enrolled in a dental program this upcoming spring for DA to gain some experience as well as shadowing a dentist. Really enjoy your RUclips channel. It's very refreshing. Thank you xoxo
if you want to be a dentist i would suggest hygiene instead of dental assistant. i am a DA going back to be a dentist and its a little hard . i work full time and take 17 credit hours . if you are a hygienist the position are mainly part time but you get paid twice as much as a DA .but if you dont have to worry about money DA is cool. you are the heart of the office
Thank you for your help. I'm going to look into it. Your information is really helpful not to just me but, others. How long have you been a DA?
i have been a Dental Assistant for 3years now. so once i apply for dental school it will 5 or 6 years ,hopefully it stands out on my application
it definitely will! You're doing great so far
thank you good luck on your journey
thanks so much for this video I'm certainty in school to become a hygienist but after I may apply for dental school this is such a motivation
great interview. I'm changing careers only problem is I'm in my mid 30s so I'm going to be starting late
its never too late to go after dreams! best of luck!!:-)
sooutstanding31 same here
sooutstanding31 that is okay better late then never
im in my late 20s and im going to be enrolling back into undergrad to one day receive my juris doctorate. But like miss @nina said better late than never! good luck love
sooutstanding31 I am a 31 year old Endodontic Dental Assistant (primarily root canals) and am currently working on my Undergrad and then heading to dental school! You are never too old to follow your passion! Keep going and good luck! :)
Love this! I want to be a dentist and this inspires me! :)
I love how you feature Spelman alumni
Becoming a dentist can be a life-enriching experience. But then the real challenge is to find out how to survive in this highly competitive field?
Hi! I'm going for a bio major, but I'm lazy when it comes to math! What's your suggestion? What kind of math will I be seeing in college as well as in dental school?
Please answer my question, it means a lot to me. Thank you.
Oh my gosh I wasn't expecting that!! (But I suspected it when I saw the hands in the thumbnail lol) Hi Spelman sister 👋🏾👋🏾 I am in the Spelman class of 2019, and I am a rising sophomore! I hope to one day become an orthodontist so thank you for this video! My best friend an I also have a RUclips channel called ChellyandShelly and we make videos about our Spelman experience! Much love from 350 Spelman Lane 😘💙
+Chelsi McFarland thanks for the support sis, feel free to share with your other 2019 sisters. I will be sure to subscribe to your channel as well! Glad it helped, keep up the good work!
Do u get to work how do u get money 8 years in school
Hello i'm from algeria i'm in my senior year and i have to decide whether to study medicine or dentistry here's the case: i love medicine a lot and it's my dream i feel like i can be good at it
But since my father is a dentist he want's to be dentist as well I'm really sad about it but here's my question :
Is dentistry similar to medicine
If i enjoy medical related topics will I enjoy dentistiry
If i persue dentistiry will i be way too far from my dream ?
Thanks for posting. This was very helpful!
+Amp P (LegallyAwes0me1) thank you for watching!!
I have joint/neck problem; should I then not pursue dentistry because it hurts neck? Way around this?
This was a great video
hi if i become a dental hygienist with an a associates degree 2 year program how many more years would i need to become a real dentist
Please reply will be so helpful.:)
First you need to get your bachelor's degree and then apply to dental school.
She's the best!!
I have a question so im a sophmore in high school in mass. I am planning on becoming a dental hygienist and working for a few years and then going on to become a dentist. Any thoughts on it?
hmm are you thinking of attending college before? as college is a prerequisite for dental school? if so, then i believe that being a dental hygienist would be deemed as a benefit before dental school!
Kandid Kaiya thank you for the help
I’m in high school and they offer a Dental Technology class should I take it ? ( My dream job is a General Dentist ) .....
Go for it
I'm look to become a dentist, although the cost is A LOT (I'll be paying by myself). What are your thoughts on studying abroad? Do you believe taking out loans is a BIG mistake? (many doctors have suggested school is much different now), and what about joining to military to help pay off loans. Thanks :)
Hi George,
I would have loved to study abroad if I had the chance. With my major, I didn't really have the chance to do so. In my opinion, if you have the opportunity to study abroad, go for it!
In terms of loans, if you have to take out loans to afford tuition, as most people do, there's nothing wrong with that! It's definitely a downside due to the high cost of graduate and professional school but many people are in the same boat.
And in terms of military, it wasn't something I was interested in but I do have classmates who are in the military and if you are willing to serve, it helps in the long run because they do cover tuition. Definitely look into it if it is something you are interested in!
Hope this helps! Good luck!
+Blaire Spaulding Thanks! :)
helpful! It's like a motivational video :I)
I didn't know that you can go to dental school so young!
Awesome job Blaire!
I’m starting college this fall what should my grades look like? I was a straight B student during high school
Thank You!
Nice interview. I am a dentist from Brazil and i was wondering where the dentist buy their products over there? Here in brazil we have specific stores where we can go rapdly and buy whatever we need. I have this friend in Canada right now and I have searched on the web where to buy an endo rotary motor so he can bring it to me. Haven't found it yet..
This was so inspiring 💖💖 Spelman College is my dream school and dentistry is also the path that I want to pursue! Is there a way that I can contact Blaire through email or text?
Can you get into a dental school with an associate degree. You said that it doesn't matter what you study for. I kind of didn't understand that?
Do you mean like if i got a degree of nursing I can also get into dental school?
you have to have a bachelor's to get into any dental school
does it matter what type of bachelor you get?
no it doesn't matter what get a degree in . you just have to take certain science classes . it all depends on what dental school you want to go to. but it would be easier to major in biology or chemistry unless you cant test out of some science classes.
Litisha Turner okay thank you
Exactly how long does it take to become a dentist?
Me too ,please , explain to me
8 years 4 pre rec and 4 dental school
4 years of dental school after college
Thank YOU so much for this video
Wow beauty and brains...
To go to dental school you have to study some college, right? So, that college can be Dental Hygiene? If so, can it be Associate Degree or Bachelor?
Samuel Batista bachelor
Great video!
I'm in my last year of high school, do I need math to be a dentist?
You should check the requirements for each dental school that you want to apply to; however, most schools don't have a math requirement. That being said, depending on what math you took in high school, you may or may not have to take more math in college to fulfill your universities general education requirements. I took AP Calc BC in high school and didn't have to take another math in college.
I wanna know too because if it does it would be perfect because I'm excellent in biology, science and math
get a BA not BS degree, this way you can avoid taking calculus and only take statistics. thats what i did, now im in dental school. no one cares about the math i didnt take! just know you have to be good at bio, chemistry courses.
Im gonna follow that path, what did you major in and what classes you took? list them pls
OMG thank you for this
Great video as always!!! Love your energy.
Hi what's your honest opinion , if I'll be around 44 years of age by the time I'll get accepted in dental school , is it worth it based off my age and cost of school? I'm also considering dental hygienist.....
what did you end up doing?
Love this video!!! I'll be posting a video soon about a pre dental clinic I'm at right now! Would love if you guys would watch it and let me know what you think about the video (and the program I'm doing lol)
sure ill subscribe to you so i know when its posted!! thanks for watching
So when she says to find exposure, does she mean to volunteer at at dentist office?
you can volunteer. it would look good on your application. some dental school require you have a certain amount of shadow hours
GoalDigger 93 does it have to be a specific Doctor? Or can it be any doctor willing to let you shadow?
this was a very good video.
Do you need maths methods also known as advanced maths to become a dentist
Was the program SMDEP?
let me check with blaire, ill let you know !! :-)
Yes the program was SMDEP! I did the program at Howard University.
Looks like an actress with a fave webseries...
