Lol. I have the drums album, and many other exotica albums myself. I agree with your market analysis, the used record stores have seen the hype and raised their prices. However whats happening now is old collectors and their collections are getting dumped by whoever inherited their stuff and sometimes it goes to Goodwill and Salvation Army and other thrift stores that no nothing about music and price it cheap! I recently went to a Goodwill for the first time in years and scored three classic 1950s jazz and a near mint Freewheelin Bob Dylan cover. Sadly the Dylan album did not have the right Bob inside the cover. Inside was a near mint Bob Goulet, lol. But the album cover is worth much more than the buck i paid to the collector that needs a better cover. And i didnt mean that old collectors were being dumped, lol, just their collections! I enjoyed your romp through your finds!
Extremely amazing finds!!! I feel you, as I fellow Wisconsinite, it can feel like it’s drying up, but the dig is still alive. I love love love the exotica
HI Jeff!!!! Great to see you again!!!! Amazing finds. I have not found any vinyl either, maybe that means I have enough, but I hope not!!! haha. Take care and hope you find more albums!!
Thank you so much for sharing - I love exotica music and love finding the records. I find that I enjoy listening to them when I want to hear something relaxing. Patience definitely pays off!
Fun video Jeff and great to see you back. A lot of people pass by these but there is a real cool factor in a lot of these exotica releases. And a lot of them were recorded and pressed great. Thanks for sharing them and enjoy the listens! I hope everything is well with you and yours!
Wow! Killer exotica finds. Congratulations! Don't you just love finding deals like those out in the wild. I would have bought the same records. Enjoy the exotica Jeff. Peace...
Hello, Topper! Great to hear from you. Hope all is well with you. Agreed...just can't beat finding great (and even rare) records for super cheap. Skol! Jeff
Clicked your icon in Kaiwaza's video to see you again. One collector may have owned several of those albums. I agree some record sellers are over pricing used, scratched records.
Wow! What a jackpot!!! I finally found a copy of Jungle Jazz last week! There's still a few of Les Baxter's "heavy hitters" that i haven't found yet...still need African Jazz, Hell's Belles, Barbarian, Dunwich Horror. I've got Chaino Jungle Echoes. Great record! I've never come across any of his other records yet! Funny story...he was actually born in Philly! Kinda like Korla Pandit who has an exotic back story, but really he's from St Louis! 🤣😂🤣 Wait a minute!!!!! WHAT????!!!!!! You found White Goddess????!!!!!!!! Wow! Congratulations! One of the most sought after, hard to come by exotica records there is!!! $2!!!! What!!!!
Hello, Tuco! Yeah...I was absolutely blown away. Just could not believe my luck...one fantastic album after another in the bins that day. And amazed that the HPB people priced them so low. Thanks so much for watching and commenting. And thank you for the continued inspiration via your videos. Skol! Jeff
Usually "Half Priced" Books prices their records at FULL PRICE! It's all about being at the right place at the right time!!! Usually when you come across a stash like that, they had just recently put them out! Had you been there a half hour later, somebody else would have probably already snatched them up!
Nice finds dude !! By the way could you do a 1940s shellac stacks listening vid please ? I’ve started collecting 40s 78s and your the main man to look too for stuff like that !!! Cheers 😃👍
Thanks! I've tried to stay away from later 40s/50s music as it will get copyright flagged. Actually had a song or two from the 40s blocked. Everything before 1923 is now in the public domain (and everything from 1923 will be also, starting January 1st) so teens and early 20s music is all fair game. Skol! Jeff
Some shops (whether thrift or regular) just haven't got a clue have they? Sounds like your local are one of those. Similarly when somewhere gets the wrong prices through like lack of knowledge makes me laugh as I vacuum up all their mistakes. Exotica is rare to come by here in UK but it is out there, still tons of classical here some more normal than the more unusual ones. The Arthur Lyman with the volcano I play that quite a bit. I doubt we'll see such an unlikely genre ever again 😐
Hilarious the more that you read that 1 liner notes story about the drummer, I kept thinking this is gonna be like Korla Pandit. ... Brilliant but absolutely fiction
