Ok. I took the plunge and purchased and I'm really digging it thus far but I would have likely purchased it anyway as there very few people on RUclips that give such in-depth information for the reMarkable. After watching your four video reviews on it, I was sold. Keep critiquing it. It's the only way to make it a truly geniune and much used device.
I saw your video on comparing the Remarkable 2, Boox Note Air, and Supernote A5X. The Remarkable 2 scored considerable lower than the other two, partly because some basic user-friendly functions were not available. Would you grade the Remarkable 2 now higher than before? And do you think they will start listening more to their customers? In that case, would it be worth buying a Remarkable 2, with the excellent writing feel, expecting they will release more updates that brings the Remarkable 2 closer to the other two e-ink devices? For instance, adding bookmarks or key words, should be a relatively easy update.
Great! here a small tip: after highlighting wrong; "undo" and highlight again will be faster than choosing the eraser, erase the last highlighting line, choose the highlighter and highlight again ;) Finally: CAPS LOCK question: is there a possibility to set a default pen and size, so this is set creating a new notebook? by the way, I love the MDO, simply great!
Hello there! I’ve been pretty interested on this kind of new technology, and your videos have been super useful to document myself on the topic! I’m actually conflicted whether to buy one device (remarkable or nova I still don’t know ) or not, as both my chooses are quite the budget. I see on the remarkable webpage that you got “trial” period with full refund: do you know if there is a way to buy the “b-stock” from them? Keep the hard work! Cheers!
Handwriting recognition still doesn't use the document orientation that you set - if you're writing in landscape mode, it will try to read what is, for you, vertical lines, and fail utterly.
Even though I already got the update I enjoy watching this. Wish the swipe right to go back worked in the page overview as well. But nice improvements, finally I can name stuff in Swedish without having to use Norwegian letters. Also wish they added the text conversion language setting in the notebook so you also didn't have to go to the settings for that as well.
Anybody else notice a suddenly drop in battery life on V1 remarkable? I think it was since the previous update (the one that introduced pinch to zoom and two-finger pan). Used to last a week with only small usage, now only 2 days.
The highlight issue of producing a straight line is very likely related with the type of pdf. A PDF may contain text but a pdf with text may just be an image. The highlighter probably responds accordingly based on the type of pdf.
But it is the same tool, and the issue of the tool manifests itself in the same way both on PDFs and EPUBs, and since EPUBs are not images of text, this eliminates the possibility that it is the image of the text that causes the issue.
@@MyDeepGuide good point. I think it is still possible to agree and still prove there are issues with different pdf formats. But I agree your point is well made and suggests I am likely incorrect.
Hello, for myself, as one uncomfortable at this time with Cloud Storage, primarily for proprietary work; are there considerations for adding a MicroSD slot on such devices in future design plans, e.g., ReMarkable 3? I am uncomfortable putting invention ideas, book concepts, and writings in the Cloud; this unknown, pseudo impenetrable void; which fails from time to time in keeping hackers at bay. Keeping my information local on MicroSD card, where Internet connection is unnecessary.
You can always keep your device offline and transfer files to your PC or Mac via USB and then store them on any media you feel comfortable with, including a MicroSD.
@@MyDeepGuide oh, I have to rewatch your review- I missed the USB connection feature. I suspect to upgrade would be the one reason to activate WiFi? Can I activate WiFi to update the software without my work efforts syncing with the online Cloud of this device? Meaning, do I have to create an account to use the device and get software updates?
Yes, you can update the device without being logged into your account. I'm not sure if you have to have an account at all, since I've had one for over 3 and a half years, but these questions are best directed directly at reMarkable.
I think the highlighter function operates differently whether your PDF is a straight scan or if it's got embedded text, at least it seems to be that way for me. I could be imagining the difference though!
Also, regarding the hiliter, I'd love for it to have different sizes because I used the tablet for drawing and because it is transparent, i can get more shades of grey out of it by overlapping marks with it, but because it's fat, I have to erase parts of the hiliter i don't want AND i also have to use multiple hiliter layers this way because when the eraser touches any mark, it goes away, and this will mess up how the hiliter is overlapping other marks, too. So, hopefully they do eventually give the hiliter the size options. It's really great tool in drawing!
Nibs last about 3 to 4 weeks depending on how often you write. I have heard of some people using a nail file to point the tip when it is flat to make it last longer.
As I mentioned in the video, the device can't do that. For password protection of files you will need a PDF program capable of doing something like that, for example Acrobat DC Pro. Maybe there are free PDF editing programs out there capable of doing that, but you will need to do the research on that yourself, as I don't know.
Hey! For a couple months now, I'm experiencing random crashes/restarts with my reMarkable 2. I emailed them and after much back and forth (including sharing logs), they told me to reset my device. That was a month ago, and my reMarkable crashed again. Are you experiencing the same issue or is it just me?
Hello, No i haven't experienced a single crash on it since September 2020, except for when I was stress testing it for the notebook pages capacity, as I talked about it in the in-depth review. But in normal everyday use, no. Do you have any hacks installed on it?
No, I don't have anything else installed, not even a custom sleeping screen. I also don't use it in ways that you're not supposed to, like copying thousands of pages. I don't have large files and where it crashes is random, it crashed a couple times while in the file manager, a couple times while reading an epub and a couple times while taking notes. It's really strange
Very strange. Did you try to see if it has something to do with the battery controller? Do you experience the same issues when the device is offline and in Airplane mode?
I don't use my reMarkable offline, so I don't know if it crashes in airplane mode too, maybe something I should try. For the battery controller, I'll keep track of the battery percentage when it does crash. It could also be software related, because my crashes started after updating to 2.6, it could just be me being unlucky or something.
It's definitely not a normal type of behavior, so they should reach out to help you in determining if the device needs replacing or not. Best of luck and I hope you get it resolved.
There was no need to do that :) Just because I don't agree with a suggestion doesn't mean that it shouldn't be there :) Maybe some other people would have agreed, so just to clarify: Suggestion was for Remarkable to move their cloud service away from Google, because of privacy issues (I guess?) and host it on their own servers instead. My stance is that I disagree with that, and it's not something I support, but it's definitely an interesting topic for a conversation and worth having :)
I've scheduled the amputation procedure to get rid of both of my arms, since they can be distracting, but I fear that my head will get in the way when I hold the stylus in my mouth and write examples.
