This delights me. I don't recall being taught this method. I do remember stumbling onto it myself and thinking it was a crutch for people who could not count only one beat per quarter note. (Or 1 1/2 beats for a dotted quarter note). This makes me feel much more astute, musically. Thank you so much!
The reason I convinced my kid to take piano lessons(90-ish )btw I did started on keyboard then ca 60 ish y I just wasn’t aware as I looked back why i didn’t take it fully 😂; he finished his course in Microbiology at University of California Systems y his wife as well with same course; I still watch piano lessons y ty I am a retired dude btw😅 add: my kids are California Honor Society members 🎉 y ty for the music people who share🎉

Does a quarter dotted note takes up the space with in the staff
Always sub divide by the lowest in the bar? So if there was a sixteenth note then would you count every note as a sub division from a 16th note?
