- Evenings getting shorter and the nights getting darker can only mean one thing, less riding time! Or does it? Anna Cipullo and Blake Samson show you what you need to be fully equipped for those nighttime MTB rides. They head to the darkest place in England to demonstrate that shorter days don't necessarily mean shorter rides and that you can still have fun on those cold winter days.
Blake and Anna are using the Magicshine Monteer 12,000 and the Magicshine Seemee 300 Smart Taillight, along with some Magicshine MJ 906S helmet lights in this video.

These pair are absolutely the epitome of MTB friendship goals. Blake and Anna are always a hoot to watch 😂😂😂😂
I really like watching Blake & Anna. I hope they could do a GMBN vs GCN again with Blake, Anna, Manon & Hank
Anna and Blake on the loose is hilarious. The human lighthouse is pure gold. I have to wonder how they manage not to giggle when they have to do the serious product presentation because I am sure they'll try and make each other laugh.
12,000 lm, holy cow. I'm happy with my 900 bar and 400 on my helmet. But then again, the trails we ride are tight, twisty single in the deep woods where you don't need to see 1/4 mile down the trail like what you were riding. I suppose you would need more for faster trails though, nothing fast here. 🙃
Night riding is awesome!!!
When was your last night ride? 🌕
For those Winter Night Rides in the Peak District I tend to pack on the safe side - so make sure I have a couple of little spare lights (just for visibility if the big ones fail) - good first aid kit (inc. survival blanket) and some warm clothing (hat, spare gloves etc - it gets cold if there is a mechanical). I'm all for packing light, but it can turn bad really quickly if you are not ready for it 🤘
I'll agree with that 👍
12000 lumens is overkill, I've been riding regularly for years through the winter with Exposure lights a max 800 lumens on the helmet & max 3500 lumens on the handlebars. Also don't ride trails with a rear light, it can blind riders behind & if you meet other riders, don't blind them with your lights.
Large Raccoons rule the night along with Frogs and Coyotes.
Deer are also on the move.
Would hate to injure one on a trail, but really looks a blast.
Cheers!
Scary.
The ending seconds are joyful.
Very fun! ❤
I really enjoyed this one, really love Blakes personality.
Great video as always Blake and Anna are great keep up the great videos.
Really really cool !!!
You guys are so bloody funny!!! Who wouldn't want to go to work with colleagues like that!!!
I use a not so bright red helmet light because you don't want to blind your buddy when looking at them. Bright Handlebar lights are essential.
This looked like fun, the rainy misty night, the quietness. I use to ride at night. Those are nostalgic memories.
Perfect adventure :)
Blake with the "forest head" comment. Lol
Great video from the king and queen of bants!
Thanks for inspiring us to tackle trails at night!
All you need are some lights! 🔦
Great video. these are my local trails might get out in the night.👍👍
Give it a go!
Great adventure 😂
Great vid - gotta get me a set of Magicshines!
That looked like some laugh🤣🤣
Nite rides are the best. We do it all the time.
They are! Feels like you're going warp speed 🚴♂️💨
Night riding is soo much fun, as long as you have decent lighting😎👍
My favourite type of riding. I dont think you need as many lumens as 4000, unless they are Chinese lumens. I have 1800LM on the bars and a 1200LM on my helmet. Plenty bright enough. When I get back in the van to come home I think the bulbs have blown and its just the side lights on. Takes a while for the eyes to adjust back to "normal" lights again.
I agree, I've got 2200 bar and 1000 helmet and it's plenty - I definitely don't need any more.
Been using magicshine montear 6500 for a couple of years now. I dont think I'll use another brand for a long time. I love the fact the battery pack doubles up as a powerbank for your phone. As I connect my phone to my bike for a route it can drain the battery on long rides. So the powerbank is perfect for me 👌🏻
Love night rides and I take everything I always take which is a little bit of everything. Including my lights just in case a day ride turns into a night ride lol
What lights have you got? 🤘
Nice!
Woah night ride *chef kiss
I have a magicshine 6500s monteer and a Exposure Diablo 12 . more than enough light for in the scottish woods. the thing to remember is to charge them up fully beforehand. not like my son the other night.thanks for another great video
As much as I enjoyed watching your antics in the dark, I hope you cleared it ahead of time and it doesn't encourage others to do the same at Kielder or any other Dark Sky sites. They've been certified as Dark Sky Sites/Parks for a reason and often to work to maintain that status, including having restrictions on lighting. They're important for observing the night sky and people tooling around with bright lights - especially extremely bright white lights like that - will ruin it.
Please dont forget to angle the light down slightly so you dont blind anyone coming towards you in the dark.
Forgot to mention that but it's very important!
Absolutely love night riding, am careful not to do anything too stupid though. It’s actually amazing how many people go night hiking too.
I night ride atleaat twice a month. Love it! 🤘
😂looks like fun👌👍😉
Great video!
Iv done kielder in the dark before but had nothing but phone lights. We didnt intend to there that late lol the head was open to sit in then tho so that was a plus lol
That was epic! What were your bike setups? & would you do that in N. America or where frightening beasts could leap out of the woods and chase you (and I don’t mean Richard).
Magic shine. Had one for 6 years before it binned its circuit board. Still bought a new one from them. Somesuch model that fits into a garmin mount. Do my fastest riding at night as I’m not looking at the view, look out for migratory toads this time of year
Me & my friends go night riding as well. We bring the things that you also brought (Blake & Anna). The thing is, ALL of us forgot to switch on the GoPro!
not sure how i feel about you showcasing this in a Dark Sky Park designed to be kept free from light pollution.
Me want your helmet lights! 😁
Monty 12000 got released the day my monty 8000 got delivered i was tamping , so running olight rn 3500 helmut and monty 8000 on bars cracking set up
I have the exact setup, it rips
It’s a Spanish colleague that first talk to me about night riding telling me how much fun it was.
But I guess that he never did it in the same weather you did 😮
£489.99 for a front light🤣
That's why they spent a 1/3rd of the video advertising it 😂
I like riding at night, especially in summer if the day has been crazy hot. If i'm going alone, I stick to trails I know well. Less likely to get turned around, or run into the wrong kind of "wildlife".
I ride at night all year round. Exposure six pack and a diablo are always in my pack.
I've tried biking at night a handful of times. But most of the time I go by myself as my riding buddies dont have night riding lights. My bar light is magicshine 1500rn and 800 lumen headlamp. For me it's more than enough to light up the trails.
I can honestly say its both amazing and eerie at the same time and something that every mountain biker should experience. Every time i ride at night I can't help but think that someone or something is watching or stalking me. Lol
I know its just my imagination and I guess that part of the trill of riding at night alone.
As for gear, i just take the same stuff when I ride in the day. My cellphone in case of emergency, multi tool, plugs, co2 pump and zip ties.
Been there plenty of times, albeit watching rallying.......
No snacks? I always carry light weight snacks just in case. I don’t like to eat heavy before a ride.
can you review the fx bmx for mountin bike trails it a fullsus bmx please can you review it
$550 for the monteer 12000 is wild 🥴
And I thought my Four4th lights were expensive.
I love to ride in the night, it's just that my lights are nowhere near enough to get up to speed with a fake 500 lumen light that performs more like a 130 lumen one...the headlight, even a shitty one helps a lot though.
What brand jacket is Blake wearing in this video please?
Dainese
Lol, i ride at night with about 300-800 lumens and i'm really satisfied with that. Also 12000 lumens equals to about 80w of LED power. Xenon headlights are in the range of 2x35w usually. I have doubts about the real power output.
You rode with very bright white lights, in my experience this is not the way to do it especially when damp you get a snow effect where the leaves and anything wet and shiny reflects causing you not to see properly. Also with this type way of using/white light there is a huge difference between what is lit and what isn't... So In fact are you seeing less.
You are also causing the rider in front of you to not be able to see properly due to shadows. I use and really like the L & M seca lights which many companies copied the shape of. They have a slightly warmer light
Great beam pattern... BUT a ridiculously long lead, and battery shapes that could have been better... But for me the best beam/kelvin rating lamp.
I also like the Exposure joysticks which give a great beam for bike packing/end of day just in case light.
I occasionally try their larger lights but the light is too white and the pattern not as good especially using it on higher then lower beam settings it needs to be moved up or down on the bars. Great pity light and motion never made a really good self contained large light!
Night rides used to be epic with 50 lumen halogen pezl headlights or without light under the full moon, with a 300 lumen led headlight and a 600 lumen flood on the bars i went from a rolling lighthouse late 90's to rolling in my own shadow 2010,.. mtb evolved, a 1995 DH track is now a gravelbike ride but when i am alone i can ride enduro tracks at speed with 1800 lumend on the bar and 900 on the helmet. With other riders with much brighter lights around my eyes adjust to the bright light so i needed to upgrade,.. now i ride up to 4000 on the helmet, 8000 on the bars,..
I think Hannah’s rear light is is the wrong place, only visible at certain angles. All the best 🚲
*Anna. But yeah it mounted below the dropper so blocked by the wheel. Still, you saw it which is the point.
4000 lumens minimum, what’s the point of riding at night if that’s the base?
1200 on the head and 1200 on the bike.
I don’t know why you even need 2400, pretty soft. I just light a candle and stick it on my bars.
Nice video, don't forget bring some self-defense tool like pepper spray
迈级炫牛逼
CO2 AND a PUMP?!?! crazy
Magic shine appears to be dishing these out to loads of RUclipsrs for reviews / free advertising. 😂
is this the only place where this is possible ? aren't there heavy fines for disturbing wildlife ?
Why does that Chinese app need to know my GPS-location?
.3 seconds of riding in a 12min video about riding in the dark.
Let's be honest it's a Magic Shine advert. 😂
That’s a no from me. Screw that.
GMBN just turning into the mountain bike shopping channel. Just another glorified advert for yet another sponser product.
I know it's nothing we MTBers wanna hear, but let's be honest about this: Night rides are simply an absolute catastrophy for wildlife. Just shred the trails at daylight ❤
Oh I’ve never heard that! What’s wrong w it?
Dont listen to this guy, go out and enjoy the trails at any time... Especially in the middle of the night
Oh suuuure, you have maaaaassive wildlife on both countries
Well if you work all day it gets dark at 4pm this time of year so there’s really no other option the animals will be just fine lmao
That reminds me of that time a had a conversation with a squirrel
How is Anna still managing to get by pretending she knows what she’s doing on this channel let alone the tech channel
Thanks for the show. Good laugh along the way. Yes i do it, yes i do it often, love it, take lots, extra canisters, spare batteries, extra fluids, picnic set. Oh.. on an ebike though 🚵♀
