    This interview raised an interesting rebuttal to the argument that Jorge will obviously get outwrestled to a decision loss or late tko. Masvidal has trained for wrestlers a lot over the last few years (Askren, Usman, Usman). In the Askren fight the bout didn’t last long enough for us to see his defensive wrestling capabilities. In the bout with Usman he showed some obvious flaws but he performed reasonably well considering it was short notice (he did better than Burns at the very least, a fighter that most MMA fans would assume is clearly better than Masvidal at this point in their respective careers). In the second Usman fight Masvidal got too cocky and paid the price. Of course, he lost fair and square, but we still didn’t get to see the wrestling capabilities he might’ve honed throughout his training camp. It’ll be really interesting to see how Masvidal does against Colby, especially considering the latter isn’t as much of a threat as Usman with his hands, rarely looks for submissions, and has shown to be susceptible to being dropped himself by fairly rudimentary combinations in both bouts against Kamaru. My head would still fancy Colby if I was asked to bet on it right now but I feel that many MMA fans are underestimating Masvidal in this fight.

      also take into account that he’s 37 years old. He’s past his prime and its been full year since last fighting. Even if his wrestling defense got better, his gas tank has probably worse from aging. Masivdal probably has a small window to knock colby out before he starts fading in the later rounds. The guy probably will fade halfway into the second round and thats gonna be the beginning of the end right there

      He underestimated Usman striking. It looked like a good shot but it actually was a very telegraphed advance by usman but instead of stepping back or to either side Jorge didnt feel threatend at all by the possibily of an Usman punch so he just wanted to counter with a hook and that got him KOed because he was throwing at the same time as receiving the punch.He might underestimate Colbys striking and thats a problem because thats how colby sets up hes takedowns by landing a combo than shooting to evade the counter but Masvidal knows this for sure.Gonna be really intresting what gameplan both figthers will have and if any are gonna make the same mistakes as in any of their previous fights.

    • @juancena8329
      @juancena8329 2 года назад +12

      Jorge has lost a lot of fights due to trying to ride out to a decision earlier in his career, that has nothing to do with pressure. When you look at him at the most important fights of his career, he’s cold as ice and doesn’t look anxious at all. Obviously this isn’t everything but it’s an amazing trait to have as a fighter because it keeps you laser focused instead of nervous.

    • @305MMA_

      You're 100% right but it is fair to say in 2019 the way he handled pressure was amazing, that was in 2019 though.... Imo it's the submission threat of Jorge. I don't think Colby can sub Jorge purely for the reason that Maia couldn't in his prime and he had Jorges back several times.
      While Jorges subs are quite sneaky and good, look at the Chiesa fight. Chiesa in many ways is really similar to Colby.

      @@edwardkelly3280 Yes thats what Usman did in the first fight since Colby was very dynamic and also Jorge cant really go for overhands and big hooks as to not be taken down so the body shots will play a big part.But Masvidal can underestimate Colbys striking as he did usmans and get caugh with some of Colbys combos that usually end with an uppercut.Both fighers dont fight well on the back foot so Colby has the advantage of the Wrestling threat and less threat of being fatigue so i expect him to back Jorge up and is awlays going to win if it goes the distance and Jorge will be timing a couple of explosions to try to finish it.

    • @texasjedi8680
      @texasjedi8680 2 года назад

      Just because one guy is known for a pace and attempts that pace doesn’t mean the other guy either accepts it and fights at that pace or loses. There’s much more to fights that y’all clearly don’t understand. Timing,rhythm,breaking the timing of your opposition allows for various openings depending on feeler techniques and overall gameplan. Yes Colby will try to put on the pace but it doesn’t have to be accepted and can be broken,Jorge is great at switching up his timing. That’s how he caught Till. He had slowed down the fight rhythm then did a quick switch stance blitz and caught him.

    The narrative that Masvidal only had 6 days notice is hilarious. They were training for an Usman fight for weeks, if not months. Negotiations fell through, but he was always training for him and then they told him to cut weight on 6 days notice. That’s about the biggest detriment to his performance, a lack of diet preparation, which he was arguably on point with anyways.

    I see this fight being similair to dos nachos fight but better takdedown defense for the first round and maybe a bit more accurate striking from masvidal but i see colby controlling the fight more than masvidal and if the cardio does not hold up for Jorge in the later rounds it could end up being a dominant win for colby on scorecards

    If Jorge somehow gets submitted (which is very hard to do), ATT should change their name to American Tap Team like Coby says, with Dustin and Nunes tapping as well. It will be such a storybook ending for Colby. Too bad it will probably be a 50-44 for him instead.
