There are cable guides for both side because these bikes were available with a front derailleur. A front derailleur is convenient when you have 20 inch wheels and can't use a long cage rear derailleur. A 1x system is more fashionable today, but a 2x system is much more useful.
Ah - thinking about it the cable guide on the left isn’t in the line for a front derailleur. And instead is positioned for the extra cable on the rear hub. If you think otherwise let us know ..
This is going to be good! Very excited to see how it turns out; I think a modern, 1x drivetrain is a great idea for this bike. I'd love a Moulton myself so will be watching with interest. Good luck!
Good start look forward to watching the progress. Agreed modern drive train the BB is threaded lots of scope there. I have an original 1965 Moulton Deluxe and a Brompton M6R.
Yes it won’t be quick progress at the moment - probably taking for the respray beginning of Sept but hoping for a great end result. Thanks, as always, for watching 👍
Thanks for watching. We’ve been able to take the fork off so the bike is in 4 sections and we are handing it over to Argos Racing cycles for the next part which will be in the next week or so 👍
Thank you for your reply ,like you I have a Brompton which i love ,what work you have given yourself restoring the Moulton anyhoo best of luck with that if anyone good do this project its you and your wonderful workshop.
Are you putting cantilever brakes back on, or V brakes? I swapped my cantilevers for Vees last week, and they're far superior for both adjustments and braking.
Hi; thanks for watching. At the moment we are planning on cantilever brakes. These suit this bike a bit better and means we can get a wider tyre in if needed 👍
Also colour coded now so can't connect wrong cables together. Originally all black O rings on 'connectors' on all models APB, and TSR, can't speak for AM's and other top models.
@@jeremynorth hi thanks for watching. These are high end ratcheting spanner’s that were bought by my grandparents at the start of my bike mechanic career . They’ve been with me over 16 years and are my most commonly used tool especially when working on vintage bikes. They are a must have for any workshop. 👍
Enjoying the videos (wanted to start with the positive 😄), but you do need to normalise your audio levels (both within the video and relative to other content on RUclips 😅).
Hi Nick, thanks for both comments! I don’t know what normalise means - we do struggle with the audio but thought a better microphone would help? Any tips gratefully received (but must be in layman’s terms as otherwise it’ll go straight over my head 😂). Sarah
I have a front pannier rack that can fit to b0ttle cages. Most probably not available now!!! Seen some intersting alternative on moulton flickr group@@veloworks9266

Thank you for watching. Sounds like a lovely bike collection!
Microshift has got an 8 and 9 speed 11-38t cassett and derailleur solution with super short cage for 20 inch bikes!
Good to know 👍
Hi Paul,
A interesting project for sure... looking forward to seeing how it progresses...
Take care.
Paul,.

I love taking bike frames to Argos. They come back transformed and it’s going to be great seeing this after the re spray and re build!
Yes they always do a great job! And we can’t wait too 😀
Can you share details of the Argos bike repair / spray shop / whatever please?
I have a long arm Deore rear derail;ier. No issues with it being so close to ground
Hello, I just bought an apb. Did you succeed to brake appart the fork ? It is very troublesome for me... Can't wait to see the final result.

Great video, looking really great.
What steel is in the APB?
Thanks! A basic chromoly steel not 531
What a wonderful project, watching with interest, can you buy these bikes new .?
Thank you 😊 The APB is no longer produced. The current similar model is the XTB which is available from Moulton. Cheers for watching

@@andrewmuirhead86 yes it’s great fun to do it!

There was a front pannier rack with ability to mount two bottle cages
I've seen a moulton frame with a slightly bent small truss bar piece. Can one just bend those back without fear of damaging the brazing?
@@beardbewithyou2068 best to contact Argos Racing cycles in Bristol and check with them 👍
U didn't show rear triangle removal,,, i have the same bike which needs low temperature brazing on swing arm , !!!!
There were some seized components so we let Argos do that 👍
I see now why 1x plans, as no braze on for front deralier
Joiner or coupler
Hey Paul, I just received some couplers from Moulton, the label says 'Cable Connector Assembly"
Also colour coded now so can't connect wrong cables together. Originally all black O rings on 'connectors' on all models APB, and TSR, can't speak for AM's and other top models.
no bottle mounts should think about velo orange utility bars to mount cages
Good point 👍
I tried sending links to bars and racks. But didn't go through!@@veloworks9266
I'm never happy to see plumbing spanners used on bikes. Just as well you gave it to Argos, they are really good

Cable connectors…
Seat post is oversized so too big for a clampon front derailier
We are going for a 1 x 👍
Like I surmised the easy solution to drine train@@veloworks9266
