Eddie rippin' through those rhythm changes at a million miles an hour... and makes it look easy. 👏

How many tens of thousands of hours did Eddie sit alone, patiently building the skills it takes to reel off those lines he seems to effortlessly construct and summon on the spot, in perfect time?
I feel sorry for people who can't look at and listen to this and really "get" what was going on there, and what we're lucky enough to still enjoy and appreciate.

If I tell you that I have listened to this version in loop idays and days n my car while going to work and I travel for approx. 50 minutes or 1h40 minutes back and forth... easily more than 150 times that I heard it and will still listen to it. I love Stan Getz and Lester Young, but man, Lockjaw in this one is on top of of my favorite song ever.

    "Jumpin at the Woodside"
The Bedlam and Power of the Basie Band in full flight, and the beautiful yet somehow calm demeanor of Eddie "Lockjaw" Davis in the middle of the fury... wow!

Holy crap man. Eddie just killed this thing. Ridiculous tempo on the Woodside song here anyways. Lockjaw just had so much going here, it's insane.

I can't understand how so many people think John Coltrane was such a great tenor sax man. I think Eddie Lockjaw can play circles around Coltrane!

the texas tenors such as jaws, buddy tate, illinois jacquet and a few others are the badest.
