Advice to buy Harmonica: 1) Versatility - Chromatic with slider, not Diatonic. 2) Budget - low budget because can damage as a beginner. 3) Number of holes - 16 hole has 4 octaves, 24 holes has 3 octaves. Start with 12 holes. 4) Scales - For Beginner take C scale. Then for Intermediate - A and G scale. 5) Design - Holes round or rectangular. Mouth piece thin or broader. Comb wooden or plastic. Valve reduces your effort but creates problems in playing as a beginner. So avoid as a beginner. Buy chromatic, 12 holes, C scale, without valve, low budget as a beginner.

Another common problem With valves harmonicas is Blockage in winters.However these can in Managed to some extent. Exposing them to sunlight. Since harmonicas don't get Overheated due to less heat Radiated by the sun.many senior players are already Aware of this.or keeping the Harmonicas covered in thick Cloth covered hot water bottles.the safest solution to This problem. I have been playing diatonic tremolo C and G harmonica during my school days (class III to XII) then I started playing guitar and bass as I shifted genre to blues and jazz. Sir, thank you for another video giving good, sound, reasonable and logical guidance. Thanks a lot. Sir, one thing I really miss (at least in Delhi) is that there is no place where one may go and select a harmonica after trying it, either the seller would not allow to open the box or not let you play the harmonica, so one is left with no option. Either one would only go by the heard name or hit and try funda. Sir, if you know any seller who would allow to let one try before purchasing do let us know. It would be of great help to many. 🙏🙏
I think no seller should allow to try before buying and if someone is doing so, dont buy from him. In my experiance, trusted brandes have good quality checks.
Ji Sir, that why I mentioned hit and try method. We can only see suitability only after purchasing it, whether round or rectangular holes, type of mouth piece, tone etc. Also Sir, even you have very correctly said that lot a things are personal choices hence there can hardly be any thumb rule.
One more thing, during these pandemic days, one should desist from trying to play a mouth organ which you do not own. Playing someone else instrument can be dangerous during Covid time.

I have been playing harmonica since the age of about 10 yrs. I played Hohners’ Comet, Echo, Marineband and Puck. Quite early I zeroed on Puck C due to low consumption of breath and I have been playing it since 1960. In between I had the opportunity to play my friend’s harmonica with slider but I couldn’t purchase one due to its price. Now my daughter got me one Hohner’s Chromatic 12 holes C scale model. I request your guidance as to how can I learn it easily.

You need to contact seller directly for that. In lower budget range, A scale is available in Sergio Tordini and you may check with Mr Peter for that. Otherwise Hohner 270, CX12, Suzuki SCX48 etc have A scale

Good points, completely agree. Newbie (and maybe stupid) question, as I do not have any experience with anything except my 24 hole budget harmonica. On these valve harmonicas, if a valve sticks because of moisture, will the associated reed still produce it's note (minus the benefit of the valve) or is it as good as a stuck reed?

I am a beginner who has been learning for the last 5 months only. Advice to buy Harmonica:
