- Christopher Lee sings "A More Humane Mikado" from Gilbert & Sullivan's "The Mikado". From the 1996 album Sings Devils, Rogues & Other Villains (From Broadway To Bayreuth And Beyond)
I...never knew I needed to hear Christopher Lee sing....let alone singing Gilbert and Sullivan....let alone singing this particular Gilbert and Sullivan song.....let alone hear him laugh like that. o.o Good lord, this is glorious.
Gilbert and Sullivan as a Hammer Horror movie. I love it. I want to hear Peter Cushing singing 'I am the very model of a modern vampire hunter'.
@@georgeash4008 Oh thanks for THAT image....
😅🤣😂😹😆
In reply to "This is glorious": 'Tis. ^____^
My sentiments are very much the same. ^___^
(sits down to listen, enjoy, watch and praise)
(oh, and learn [something new every day])
Wow. 👏👏👏👏👏
Yeah, Sir Christopher Lee does Gilbert and Sullivan!
If I needed to be Reminded of Christopher lee’s greatness… this is it
Sir Christopher Lee had so many talents, we shall never see his like again! RIP.
Wait a second, is dead?
@@nicopavvi8494 didn't he die back in 2015?
He died in 2015 at 93
Oh yeah, he was a polymath of the first order!
You can tell he had fun with this one.
Yes as he and i love opera.Alex Goldhill, i recommend this CD.
I never knew he could sing
A very very accurate performance of this. Lee was a Master of all trades.
Well, this is truly a surprise! And what a voice. This song is a real tongue-twister for many people, but he performed it flawlessly. Thank-you for posting this one.
There is just nothing like the classic booming Christopher Lee laugh...whether its maniacal, sinister, booming, good natured...or all four!
Well said 😂…. And this is all of those, somehow. Quite the feat. 🎤
I wish I could see him play the full role and speak the lines in that voice -
"I forget the punishment for encompassing the death of the heir apparent - I think it involves something lingering... with boiling oil in it... I know it's something humorous - but LINGERING."
...with either boiling oil or...melted lead. But don't fret, I'm not a bit angry."
Me too!
Who's going to be angry when the great Christopher Lee is singing?
@Greg Elchert Amen to that!
He should be the Mikado in a Mikado based movie, and what about Nicole Kidman as Katisha and Ewan McGregor as Nanki-Poo?
I could listen to Christopher lee all day and all night.
So could I!
Am I the only one who didn’t know that Christopher Lee could sing?!
I have admired Christopher Lee ever since I first saw him on television as a child. I was probably about 6 yrs old but I obviously recognized greatness
They say you learn something new every day, I never knew Sir Christoper could sing, & doing Gilbert and Sullivan is even more of a surprise. This is brillant!
A truly great, versatile actor, my favourite! However, until finding this by chance, I never realised he could sing too, which he does with as much enthusiasm and skill as in his more usual roles. Excellent!
I love his singing he really makes me laugh a great talent kind gentleman.
Finally I've found A song he did that I know quite well!
And I was not disappointed. If he'd take classes, he could've been one of the best opera singers of our age
Definitely.
He was encouraged to pursue opera by none other than
Jussi Bjorling.
@@SKAGSTHECLOWN Trust the Sahdow to know
@StaticYonder
I presume you're an opera singer?
@@jenzag7621 Yes
Brava, Mr. Lee, brava! That laugh is worthy of famous stage Mikados, including Donald Adams and Darrell Fancourt (who started that tradition of the Mikado giving a bloodcurdling laugh in the first place).
Now we need Peter Cushing singing the List song
That would be really good. Never before has Gilbert and Sullivan sounded this scary.
As much as I like Peter I'm more than happy to listen to John Reed singing "I've got a little list".
0:58 I love the irony of this line being on this album, given the cover mentions Bayreuth, implying Lee also sings Wagner on this album.
I had no idea he could sing! This is wonderful, and such crisp articulation. Next time I watch him as Count Dooku in Star Wars, I will remember this recording! A gem.
I prefer Saruman.
Porque no los dos? :-)
He made a metal album about Charlemagne :)
At one point he was in a production of The King and I. I believe a recording was made of it.
I remember him as Dracula.
When he was hot!
just the other day, I made a joke about there being a Gilbert and Suliivan's Star Wars....
I will do anything to get my hands on this CD.
Perhaps the best version of this great and humorous song - but when Christpher Lee laughs I'm almost get scared, LOL, Ha-Ha! :D
I've gotten addicted to this song.
Great diction!
If Iwas just listening to this and didn't know it was Chirstopher Lee singing, I wouldn't have guessed it was him singing until I had heard it a few times then I might have guessed it was him.

Great, and for a man his age, even better! Now, those strings, on the other hand.......
Elise Curran SO flat - ow!
This CD is now rare to get its a excellent CD has i have it, he sings in French,Italian,German,Russian,Spanish a clever man.
Which songs does he sing in Russian?
I have the cd as well. It's even signed by Sir Christopher Lee.
Oh my god YES!!!
Did he ever sing/record "When the Night Wind Howls" from Ruddigore?
not to my knowledge. wish he had!
Christopher Lee ROCK STAR! ♥️
I didn't even know this guy could sing!
I love Christopher Lee
who would have thought we'd be listening to dracula sing years in the future.
1:35 that laugh is so scary
Me: “Dude, this sounds like Gilbert & Sullivan”.
*Looks at the title and sees the song is literally named Mikado.* Maybe I should read! 🤣
fu manchu does gilbert and sullivan. yay.
Well if anyone would take the piss out of the Japanese, it's the Chinese.
If you have Mephisto's Serenade, please up load it I really want to listen it with his grassy voice
i only have the 2 G&S tracks but other people have requested other tracks as well so i might see if i can get the full album
@@nailheadparty Please! I think I heard "A puzzlement" from the complete" King & I" with Valerie Masterson. I would like to see a play or film which tells the true story of Anna Leonowens. She was a terrible fibber and the books and musical were based on that. For a start she was of mixed race.
Count Dooku sings.
... and Saruman, and Dracula, and Lord Summerisle... all-round the most epically awesome man ever.
Did you post the whole CD?
nah i only own two tracks. sorry
I wish Christopher Lee had voiced a Disney villain (besides his one line as the Jabberwocky). He would've been awesome as Shere Khan, Captain Hook, Scar, Jafar, or Judge Frollo.
PLEASE upload "Hagen's Watch" from this album!
i only have the 2 G&S tracks presently but i'll have a look for you
I wonder whether Patrick Stewart can sing? Similar voice and diction.
Better than the Groucho Marx version.
ribbit
Dracula sings? Who knew?
