The rematch between Conor McGregor (22-4) and Dustin Poirier (26-6, 1 NC) is official for January 23, 2021 at the Flash Forum on Yas Island in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates. Poirier and McGregor had their first fight at UFC 178 in 2014 where McGregor won by first-round knockout.
This rematch initially came about in September when the two tried to set up the bout for charity, until the promotion offered them an official match.
Since their first meeting at UFC 178, both Poirier and McGregor have realized UFC gold. Mcgregor dethroned the featherweight king Jose Aldo in 2015, and the lightweight champion Eddie Alvarez in 2016. McGregor relinquished both titles before attempting to defend them. After leaving the sport for almost two years to box Floyd Mayweather Jr., the irishman returned to take on the lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 229. The russian submitted McGregor in the forth round with a neck crank and added another win to his perfect record. The only fight McGregor has had after this was against Donald Cerrone at UFC 246 earlier this year. This was a near perfect performance by McGregor as he violently finished Cerrone only 40 seconds into the first round.
After Dustin Poirier's loss to Conor McGregor in 2014, he has fought 13 times and has established himself as a legend and future hall of famer in the sport. Poirier managed to win the interim lightweight after beating Max Holloway at UFC 236 in 2019. He then went on to lose the unification bout to the lightweight champion Khabib Nurmagomedov at UFC 242 the same year. At UFC Vegas 4 in June, Poirier came back strong by beating Dan Hooker after a five round war.
On Jan. 23 we head back to Fight Island for UFC 257, but Dustin Poirier and McGregor will not be fighting for any gold. It is still unclear what Khabib Nurmagomedov ultimately decides to do moving forward. After his most recent successfull title defense against the former interim champion Justin Gaethje (UFC 254), he announced his retirement right after the fight. However Dana white is not in a rush of putting the lightweight title up for grabs yet.

I see either man winning but if it does go to the later rounds, I'm definitely going Dustin, if it ends early, Conor, and if it ends by submission, Dustin, since I don't think Mcgregor can pull off a sub win. And if it goes to decision, Dustin because I think he will win in the later rounds since Conor gets gassed out quick if he doesn't end it early.

It would be a fairytale ending if Dustin could get his win back but life isn’t a fairytale and I think if Dustin doesn’t sub him then Conor wins imo
The only stand up fighters I have seen give McGregor any issues are ones with great chins, high volume strikes, and cardio for days. Max Holloway and the diaz brothers are the only ones I would see in the 155 or 145 pound division giving Conor any big problems on the feet. Now that's not saying Dustin can't win but my odds would be 80% Conor and 20% Dustin.
It is not a big fight until AXIOM Films makes a promo.

Well to be honest no other promo would get me fired up quite like the ufc does. All of these edited promos are just words said to other opponents set up to make it look like it’s towards the actual opponent with an over the top “motivational” soundtrack.
@@fortsniped3073 And that's what creates impact. Emotional commitment gets people hooked, and these Trailers nail it perfectly. UFC Trailers are crafted the same way, to build a narrative, and Axion's entry here with these multiple Promos could easily be used for the Official Promos.

I re-watch your promos after the fact because they're so good. And there's always some kind of clever cinematic arrangement to discover like at 2:40 - 2:42, when you went to a quick shot of the bright lights overhead as if we were looking at what happened through Jose Aldo's eyes, when he got KOed a second ago. Just brilliant.

I still believe prime Mcgregor competes with Khabib. Win or lose I'm unsure, but whatever the outcome, I believe a rematch would make Khabib seem human.
Conor in his final form, with all his training, no alcohol, no distractions, fully motivated conor will make Khabib seem human, but whether he beats him, i dont know.

I honestly feel that the only reason Conor lost to Khabib is because he didn't take Khabib seriously, drank and barely trained and literally drank the night before. If it was a focused and calm McGregor with the knowledge he knows now, he'd be able to have a better outcome.

As much as I love Dustin, I think Conor wins , people saying Dustin has changed through the years is same with conor he went on to become two division champions , but lost arguably best boxer Floyd and best lightweight mma fighter khabib. I don't think anyone has chance in beating conor in lightweight division other than next generation talents like olivera, dariush, Islam.
Dariush is the dark horse at 155 for me I can easily see him becoming champ.
