    Thank you for the visual! I've seen the written instructions and thought to try making this type of sling but felt a little intimidated since I do not sew very much but this tutorial makes it seem quite easy. Thanks again! Now I must check my fabric stash.

    Thank you so much for this video!!! You make it very easy to understand!!! :-) I am actually going to make this for my little Chiweenie puppy. She is super tiny right now and loves to be near me, and I can take her everywhere now. My little fur baby :-) I am also going to sew a clip inside to go on her harness for added safety....

    Could you do a video on how to position your baby inside the pouch sling? I made mine last night and it seems like he's uncomfortable in there. Without even realizing it, I chose the same silk brocade. It's absolutely gorgeous.

    It was some what helpful but at the beginning you didn't say how wide the fabric needed be

    This is a great, thorough video. One suggestion though, pinning your lining to your outer fabric before you sew a single stitch will prevent it from stretching out while sewing. It's a bit time consuming but it makes for a more accurate final product. :)

    @luvmyupsman Oh that is very helpful! I actually was thinking about sewing it up tonight, so I will be sure to cut it that way. I will let you know how that goes! Thanks for being so kind as to show others how to make these.

  • @rebeccaperez3

    nice tutorial ! I will be trying this out soon, silk doesn't have as much stretch as flannel, I suppose that is why you ended up with a bit more flannel at the end of sewing your long pieces together

  • @luvmyupsman
    @luvmyupsman  13 лет назад

    @trishpulley That fabric should work okay, as long as it doesn't irritate your baby. The only real problem with fabric is if you have stretch in it. Stretch is good for a pouch, you just have to be certain that you cut the fabric so it stretches from the top to the bottom of the sling when worn. You don't want your stretch along the length of the sling; then baby will stretch it out when placed inside and it won't be a snug fit. Good luck!

    yes, I always wash my fabrics first in case any of them shrink.

  • @luvmyupsman

    I wouldn't give up on the fabric you have. Unfold it to a manageable number of layers to cut and then just trace each layer as you cut.

    I am 5'2" and I measure around 22" from hip to shoulder. Does that sound right?

    i have just finished cutting my fabric and I am breaking out in a sweat. I am using Flanelette as a lining and a cotton with a bit of stretch as my outside fabric. This fabric is too hard to cut when it is folded together. Can you recommend any other fabrics that might be easier to work with?

  • @trishpulley
    @trishpulley 13 лет назад

    Hello! Does it matter if both the inner and outer fabrics are slinky? All I have at home is kind of a drapey fabric for the outside and satin lining fabric for the inside (had to give up my stash when we moved). Is this going to affect the baby's safety? I hope to get better fabrics within the week but I need the pouch now.

    u missed one step in the french seam you are supposed to top stitch that little flap down so it gives a nice little line in the front

  • @dandelionmom
    @dandelionmom 16 лет назад

    is the fabric 48" wide after you cut it or before you cut it?

  • @luvmyupsman
    @luvmyupsman  16 лет назад

    The width of the pouch is 24" unfolded, 12" folded in half for use.

  • @ladams1221

    I didn't read through all comments, so forgive me if this has been said.. Sewing with the thicker fabric (the lining, in this case) on the bottom, against the feed dogs, as well as pinning the two fabrics together every 10 inches or so, will keep the lining from growing. It does kinda matter, since you'll probably turn the whole piece around to sew the other long seam. If both long seams end up with an extra inch or two of lining left over after the seam is sewn, the pouch will be out of whack.

    The fabric is 48" before cutting it in half...meaning that one pouch is 24" unfolded, or 12" when it is folded in and ready to wear. Sorry for the confusion - I hope this clears things up.

    @prncesbunn I don't have written instructions of my own on hand. I tried posting a link here for you, but RUclips doesn't seem too happy about that. Try searching "make your own baby stuff dot com". I would suggest trying there first. If that doesn't satisfy you, e-mail me at leah payne at hotmail dot com and I can work on some written instructions for you. HTH!
