    Do you think this skid plate for the M2C is essentially the F80/F82 M3/M4 Turner skid plate with the new metal sides riveted on? I'm certainly thinking it is and if so might just end up picking that skid plate up and modify the OEM plastic sides like you did in this video. I am not a fan of the one piece design and you certainly brought up great points. Thanks!

    Glad you made a vid on this. I was considering one for my F87

    Excellent. I appreciate your take on this piece. I had suffered total loss because of the oil system getting punctured. The vunerabililty lies in the fact that the drain plug protrudes and is susceptible to impact, damage, and loss. It is not shielded in that spot in the oil pan. Rock damage. Im not sure, couldn't tell, if the Turner address that drain plug spot, but that issue would need attention for F87 owners.

      You're right that the Turner skid plate doesn't do anything for the oil drain plug. The OE shear plate though should have a protrusion to prevent that bolt from getting sheared off. You must've had one WILD hit!

    I hope you provided your feedback to Turner Motorsports. They really should do better. There is no excuse for such a shoddy product. Nice job making it work.

    Thanks for your honest opinion. It’s looked suspect to me and you’ve confirmed it. We might all be better off with custom CF piece that overlays on the stock shield itself.
    BTW - what kind of splitter is on the car? Lightweight?

    • @FaRKle0079
      @FaRKle0079  2 года назад

      The splitter is actually an Aha Carbon/JC Sportline GTS style splitter. I custom mounted it though so it's super durable (and I'll cover that in another video).

    Seems like someone or even BMW should make a better solution, location of this thing is totally stupid. Appreciate your time and all your content.

    • @FaRKle0079
      @FaRKle0079  2 года назад +1

      I'm sure a BMW engineer came up with a similar solution, but was told, "No, too expensive." by the bean counters...
      Having that extra oil cooler down low is pretty clever though, and one of the reasons you don't hear about F8x overheating on track unlike other popular cars from its time (C7 Z06, Civc Type-R, ect...).

    Another excellent video! Very creative with the blended hybrid mod. And so easy with simple tools and patience!
    I really hate when manufacturers leave sharp edges to save the money from having to add a process. Maybe you could use a handheld drywall type router with a slight rounding bit to go over all of the edges, especially since the piece doesn’t appear to be coated on video. You could always paint or powdercoat too. May save you sliced fingers in the future.
    Just curious... after removing that one piece of gasket material for fitment, how was the airflow/seal in that area? I couldn’t tell if the surface there was flat so that maybe you could have moved it 1/2”-1” further outside to fit, but maintain the seal. Or remove it for fitment and install a thicker piece of insulation to seal around it.
    Happy New Year!

    • @FaRKle0079
      @FaRKle0079  2 года назад

      Yeah, if I ever need something to do I can go over the edges with a file, dremel, or sandpaper to finish it up. It's a decent amount of length to do.
      With the rear gasket removed there's about 1/8" gap between the ridge the gasket sits on and the intercooler. I don't think this will really matter though since the stock skid shield doesn't seal that well either. If I want to to really seal I can trim the gasket back to just the part that slides over the ridge.

    I just bought one of these because my OEM one just like yours has one of the arm things completely broken so better safe than sorry (also got a good price for it so not too much more than the OEM one probably). I am going to do what you did because don't want my mechanic to hate me and seeing other videos on these they seem like a huge pain to install. You never mentioned it, did you have to do anything to the ears of the plate? you said you might have to bend em, anything I should know from when you installed everything back on? Thank you FaRKle!

    • @FaRKle0079
      @FaRKle0079  2 года назад +1

      I ended up bending the ears towards the rear of the plate a bit. Put them in my bench vise and then just pulled the plate to bend them where they needed to be.
      If you have a front splitter I wouldn't even think of trying to install this whole.

    • @oficina_moomoo
      @oficina_moomoo 2 года назад

      @@FaRKle0079 I do, I have the Lightweight one and not even going to attempt, going straight to your hybrid idea. I will have to bend the ears then, not a big deal.

      @@FaRKle0079 Also what a bad product from turner, did they like not even install this on a car? Its interesting because their F80 one is just the middle part since a different system but works well and probably the reason the other M2 metal one is only also the middle and has you cut your oem one. Anyways once again thank you Farkle! Glad you went through this so I did not have to waste hours trying to install the stiffest sharpest piece known to man 😂

    • @FaRKle0079
      @FaRKle0079  2 года назад +1

      @@oficina_moomoo With the M3/4 the stock undertray is 3-pieces (center and two front quarters), so it makes sense for Turner to only make the middle part. Turner clearly made the M2 version one-piece so people wouldn't HAVE to cut up their stock undertrays, but their execution of that was kind of half-assed IMO.

  • @usernamealreadytaken770

    I wished that Turner made a version of this for the non-competition M2. Well I guess based off your video, I would no longer want one.
