Just catched this Video today ( I must say it was hard to Watch knowing Hilaree recently passed on Manaslu) but it gave me insight into who she was and what Jim Morrison vision of the outdoor adventurer lifestyle!!! My condolences to Mr. Morrison and her two boys....I cant imagine the depth of their sorrow!! As for Hilaree's Legacy, I am sure that her boys will ultimately follow her footsteps of living life to its fullest!!! I love skiing, snowboarding, surfing, kitesurfing ...and passionate about enjoying the outdoors even as I enter my 60's ....age doesnt define us nor does gender, Hillary was proof of this!!! I have many North Face outdoor gear and everytime I put it on, I think of individuals like Hilaree, Jim, Conrad, Jimmy ...the list goes on!!! As for Jessie Diggins, I am looking forward to reading her Book ....Cheers, 1000's islands, Canada

"........My condolences to Mr. Morrison and her two boys....I cant imagine the depth of their sorrow...." I often wonder how deeply folk count the cost of heading into the death zone doing risky as hell exploits. If you succeed the world applauds you like you`re gods but if you fail and cry ,you cry alone! But many here will claim that the depth of their sorrow pales into insignificance compared to the glory of the exploits of the parent ,or husband or wife who died .
Consider climbers like Tom Ballard whose very famous mother died on K2 . On that fateful day she was suffering from summit fever and tormented that others had reached the top earlier that day and she was late in the day past the ideal turnaround time . To top it all , conditions were deadly but she went for it and paid the price . Her son Tom Ballard became a top climber and alpinist . Driven by God knows what , he died more recently on Nanga Parbat , another very dangerous mountain ! And now surviving members of their family talk of "heart breaking " pilgrimages to remember their dear departed loved ones . This is the true tragedy ,surely, for the ones left behind . Climbing and mountaineering are selfish exploits and the list is looooooong pf those pushing and tempting fate or of climbers that ignore the plights and pleas of dying fellow climbers . This is the unseemly underbelly of mountaineering in the death zone, money driven , sponsor driven and ego driven . Believe me ,I know ! I `m one of them myself !
