- In this video I take the wax recast from the previous video and resculpt it into a new design.
Then I molded it and slush cast it hollow.

Hi Robert- so great to see you sculpting! I know your channel covers primarily mold-making and casting but i am always fascinated to see people- especially those with skills like yours- carving and altering wax models. Thank you for the bass-guitar string tool idea- i am making a few of those right away!
Thank you for your advise on my mold. I did it the way you recommended. Boy was I nervous to arrange it that way.
I came out with a near perfect mold casting. Of the three that I poured there was a small bubble on the lower lip of all three. A little sanding and it’s good. I was so determined to have it turn out that I used a lot of silicon to fill the box. I know you do some very meticulous boxes to save on the amount of resin a mold take. I figured with having made at least three molds of the same thing it was too late to spare the expense at this point. I was committed and determined and with your advise I achieved success. I aspire to your experience but not only will I probably not do any more molds. I don’t think I have the 40 years left to acquire the experience that you have in perfecting your talent. Truly remarkable. Thank you again, it is so generous of you to share your knowledge.

Sir...if you want a flawless cast with no bubbles and intricate details.... You should pour the material inside the mold then immedietly place it inside the vacume chamber.... This is even more effective than the spinning machine.. You will have a solid clean finish ever time... My friend does it using a vacume cleaner which sounds funny but he gets it perfect everytime smooth and flawless

I’ve watched several of your RUclips videos on resin casting. Some more than once. All I can say is absolutely amazing what you do and the experience you have doing it. Impressive how you can look at an object and notice the problems and process to cast it. Your very meticulous with each step of a project. Not to mention an excellent work shop with all the goodies. Your interesting to watch and learn from. My first project was a simple dolphin. I did not use a presser pot or a degasser. It came out pretty good but I did need to do some patching. I used vents and sprue but still got some air bubbles. I still got a large bubble between the nose vent and spue. More than one pour had a bubble. I’m trying again to see if I can perfect my mold. I figured the nose and fins would need vents as before. I’m not sure how to avoid the air bubble near the nose. What would be the underside of our chin. I haven’t poured the silicon yet. I have a vent going from the air bubble spot to the sprue. Which gives me two vents that are nearly parallel. Seems wrong. Any suggestions or thoughts. Once again love your you tubes and covet your shop 😂

i just recently sculpted and molded a couple of my own christmas ornaments i sculpted. i took some of your advice from other vids. i cast 2 copies but i did it solid. they are pretty light but this slush casting technique looks like the way to go. biggest reason is i can save materials. also, i recently got a more accurate scale than my old kitchen scales (howd i make anything with those... wow lol) and i think i can make smaller batches. lookin forward to trying it out. thinking about uploading vids.

I think I got pointed to this channel more than a year ago by Miniac and/or Trapped Under Plastic. And from a miniature hobbyist perspective on things, I'm curious about what would Robert's opinion on a Forge World resin kit be and how he'd improve it. Forge World is renowned for having let's just say "less than ideal" resin kits, so I think it would be interesting to see an experienced veteran of the mould making and casting industry take a look and possibly improve upon what he sees.
Just a thought. And if anyone in the audience reads my comment, would you have an opinion on which kits might be good to look at?

does candle wax work for sculpting?
WOW, I was wondering how on earth you were going to get a smooth surface on that wax figure once you stuck it together Frankenstein-style! That steel wool cotton swab & lemon oil was an unexpected surprize, and sure did the job. How do you ever figure out to use THAT tool & material?
I know a lot of sculptors, but I can’t remember who taught it to me.
Robert, why aren't you putting silicone directly into the mold and then degas it in vacuum chamber?
Because I never put an original prototype, sculpture or model under pressure or vacuum. In my shop I often make molds from other people’s objects. I don’t know how those objects are created and they may contain voids inside them. Those voids can either collapse or explode under vacuum or pressure, destroying the object.
@@RobertTolone, now I get it. But if it's a solid object it would have almost no bubbles using this technique combined with pressure pot

It is a scroll saw. I just got into the habit of calling it my jig saw and forget to correct myself.

Hi, what resin do you use?
Great video Robert. Could you tell how thick the walls on the casting were?
I candled the casting. Meaning I held a strong light behind it. Doing so gives you an idea of the wall thicknesses. But none of that showed up well on camera so I didn’t include it. The casting feels strong; there are no flimsy or weak areas in the surface. So I was satisfied with that. The best way to evaluate your technique and success on a given sculpture is to cut the first casting in half.

You’re right. Somehow it got stuck in my head as a jigsaw, and I’ve always called it that.
