Okinawa looks so different because he was in Hawaii in the old movie but he’s actually in Okinawa this time
Interesting.
@@britneyb6488 Yep. Just checked IMDb and the filming locations for KK2 were Oahu, Hawaii and Burbank, California. The beginning of the movie in Burbank and the rest in Oahu I assume.

For those of us that grew up on KK I and II in the 80s, season III of Cobra Kai really tugs at your heartstrings. Kudos.

Omg, as an Asian American, even when I go back to Asia every few years, things feel like they change so much. This scene captures Daniel's shock so well as he tries to reconcile his vision of past Japan with the modern day!
I have always cherished Hokkaido and Okinawa more than the rest of Japan. I am heartbroken that Ainu and Ryukyuan cultures and languages are declining as a result of Japanese, American, and Russian colonialism.
Well, technically, Okinawa wasn't part of Japan until the 1890s. Prior to that it was an independent nation called the Ryukyu Kingdom, with its own language, culture, and history.
You should be 100% Asian
@@emisoranonimo3147 Who, exactly?
Don’t worry I’m also Asian American from a village where it still is the 80s
What I thought was great about this scene was it wasn’t only “Daniel” going back to Okinawa, it took us back as well. I was 7 when karate Kid 2 came out. It was my favorite movie for a long time, this scene took me back to that time , and made me feel like I was there with him in the past and present.
I agree 💯👍🏻 I was in my early teens when karate kid 2 came out. Thks definitely brings us all back.
It s an underrated movie in the trilogy the flashbacks do bring you back as a viewer
Me to. I was 10 years old when i saw the first karate kid in 1984.
I was three when the second one came out. While I knew of the movies, I never really got to see them in full until years later down the road, and was glad to got into them well in time for Cobra Kai for that matter too!
You can tell it s like a second home to Daniel cause he loved and respected Miyagi a lot
Just seeing those cute little girls laughing when Kumiko and Daniel said hi to each other was priceless.
The way the put the music from the second film into his memories is brilliant
What’s the song called ?
@@chillwolf914 it’s called funeral
They got Okinawa right this time. Not Hawaii. The scene with Daniel and Chozen overlooking the bay and islands is Ogimi Village. I go there almost every weekend to get away from "chaos". Great job on all the seasons so far, definitely this one.
It may sound disrespectful or whatever for saying this so sorry if it is, bit it always fascinates me that other people from across the whole world are watching the same thing. Like I'm assuming that your in/from Japan and therefore know of this place but, idk it just amazes me that someone like you who's so far away can kinda interact with me. And no I did not just join the internet like a week ago 😂😂😂 just always amazed lol
Yeah, even if the outdoor mall part was filmed in the States, with that being in Georgia like most of the show to be exact too.
So cool to think I actually had lunch with Yuji aka Chozen a few years prior to the series premiere. I’m glad he got to reprise that character. He was one of the nicest guys I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. I love this show
Did you win a competition?

very emotional scene with music and everything. everything around him reminds him of Mr Myagi he's true friend, teacher and father figure. you can tell he misses him and needs him the most in his life.
Very much he loved and appreciated him
Eyes were sweating the entire time. They played the old music.
When Daniel said "this looks like the town that Time forgot" I couldn't help but think to myself and I'm sure the people that live there are just happy about that too.

If I could go back to Okinawa, I would.
Well at least some (if not most) of them were still filmed in Georgia, but yeah.
When Daniel is in the cab remembering his first trip to Okinawa with Mr.Miyagi back in 86' that was so heartwarming.Brings back so many memories 😢.
A mall??? 🤣🤣🤣🤣 Sato wasnt kidding around when he said he would rebuild Tome Village. Or should I say City of Tome now??
Who would have thought an ‘act of god’ would get that dream started.
Which makes me wonder if there truly is a Tome Village in real life, or whether it's a completely fictional village.
I like how that bartender told him, "you can still visit someone, even they are no longer with us", that's a good way to see things..

Cobra Kai is adept at allowing the the audience to vicariously feel the character’s yearning for the past and reluctance to accept the present. Whether it’s Daniel getting smacked in the face with reality, i.e. an upscale gentrified Okinawa mall or Johnny talking about how Sal’s burgers is the best because it’s the opposite of that trendy contemporary “veggie crap,” the show masterfully balances out all the inner tension.

Get your facts straight dumbass. They never asked the locals in the original kk2. They asked a couple of American soldiers and they didn't know until their superior told them they were "standing on it". An army based was put over the village, that's why no one knew about it.

This scene and the letter had me speechless it felt like going to a time machine the flashback, the music it's like I was a little kid again the karate kid 2 was always my favorite growing up and I never even imagined seeing Ralph reprising his role as the karate kid let alone this.
That time when Tomi Village magically transformed into Underground Atlanta

If Miyagi-Fang wins then everyone should celebrate in Okinawa.
In karate kid part II the airport was bad but now it got improve and i’m surprise the village has change.
Modern times = vast improvements hehe! 😁
Even the old airport was a vast improvement according to Mr. Miyagi. He left Okinawa on boat because an airport didn't even exist on the island at that time.
I was stationed on Okinawa in the early 70's. Many Tomi Villages then. Okinawa now looks very modern. Monorail, hydrafol boats and American Village where these scenes were filmed as well as the airport. The airport covers the base I was stationed at.
The airport in part 2 was just some building in LA I think. I could be wrong, but in this clip, it really looks like they filmed it at Kansai Airport (Osaka) this time.
I looked at it again and it looks like I'm wrong, but it sure reminded me of it, haha.
That just breaks my heart.... that town was so gorgeous and now it’s a tribute to capitalism 😢
It had to change. The village’s crops were dying out. The villagers had to make a tough choice. Either adapt to the evolving world or starve to death.
well the village was in Hawaii haha
@@Cha4k hahaha agree.
Lol and that’s such a bad thing because...? The village life probably wasn’t sustainable anymore and capitalism gave them new jobs, better homes, and probably an overall greater quality of living. Capitalism isn’t evil sis

No, that would have been trite and stupid.
Maybe have Daniel as either divorced or never married.
True, he and Kumiko made a nice pair...in my Karate Kid storyline, Daniel is living back in Newark as an adult and is married to a Chinese-American woman, but they both keep in touch with Kumiko.
Ummm...no. Older Asian women are now targetted for Violence in America, and Daniel wouldnt be able to be at her side 24/7...she'd be safer in Okinawa....

@@daveyboy_ he did steal and stuff, but he never really hurt anybody by doing so. Daniel was supposed to guide him, but instead he let Robby down by not letting go of his hatred towards Johnny. Daniel has been a real piece of shit in this show cause all he does is judge people based on what they look like or a mistake they made and his daughter is the exact same way. Keep in mind that Tory hates Samantha (Daniels Daughter)because she was gonna rat her out over a god damn bottle of tequila, and automatically assumed Tory stole her mom’s wallet.
This why I tell kids to never Judge cause you never know when it will happen to you. Those who want respect, give respect.
Season 3 is my favorite. Though it often gets forgotten in the great series, but it's got some great nostalgia moments. Kumiko return, Mr. Miyagi's letter, Chozen and the honking, and the return of Ali with an I. Just a lot of unfinished business in this season. And Miguel recovering from the fight with the help of a Twisted Sister cameo. It also has Hawk beating up the fat annoying kid. Season 5 is also very good though.
Japan's changed a lot since the 1980s.
Cobra Kai never... My ass, KARATE KID NEVER DIES!
Daniel was surprised to see Tomi Village has changed so much since he went there with Mr. Miyagi to settle affairs with his father and with Sato in the 1980's.
Man that soundtrack is the one when the funeral of Miyagi's dad and when Daniel talked to him in the beach and consolate Miyagi :'(
Tomi Village Mall is Underground Atlanta, on the south side of it. The building behind Daniel when he gets out at Tomi Village is the old Coca-Cola Museum in downtown Atlanta. (1:30). The new one is north of Centennial Park.
So in Okinawa, where Tomi village is supposedly, there is an actual mall area called American Village. Not sure if there is a connection there, but cool
Yeah I didn’t like the way they put that together - it’s obvious an American mall - they should have just filmed something similar in Okinawa - but that may have required sending tamlyn tomita there too - $$$

Flies from America all the way to Okinawa with only a small carry-on suitcase 😆
Actually, real Okinawa in 80s was already quite modern and sophisticated, there were many huge resort hotels. Remember, Okinawa is part of Japan.
Okinawa was not much different from other Japanese cities.
Very true. A lot of it was already quite modern by then no doubt, much like USA, Canada & Europe while still wisely & fortunately maintaining its classic ancient & priceless historical sites, villages, beaches & much more, forming a very unique & unbeatable awesome mix.
tommi village is a fictional place, so my guess is that they wanted to make a place where miyagi had a humble origin. Plus take a jab to capitalism, commenting on how much it can change a place from his true origins to the point its unrecognizable.
American Hollywood just had a bad habit of making non white countries ages behind what it actually was. I'm pretty sure Japan wasn't this archaic in the 80s, even in rural areas lol.
He's actually landing in Naha. I'm surprised they actually went back. I was born and raised out there.
Being a Marine stationed in Okinawa from 2007-2010 this scene of him arriving in Okinawa getting into a honcho really hits hard.

Cobra kai season 3 was the best
I could watch Daniel and Johnny in an original Karate kid continuing movie by itself and still be happy :)
1:39 My childhood is ruined :/ The Karate Kid films was my childhood
The actual place the second movie was filmed still looks the same today. These scenes were just filmed in Okinawa instead, while the movie filmed in Hawaii.
Laufield
another fun fact that scene right there at 1:39 that was really filmed in Japan, The creators of Cobra Kai actually went all out and filmed that in okinawa for real this time...
Laufield
If you really look at it, this is what's happening in Japan. Small cities having to adapt to commercialization in order to survive. Japan has many ghost towns because people have left to go to major cities. On the flipside, places like Tokyo are becoming overpopulated with rentals going up and up because of demand. Places like Aomori in Northern Japan have had to rely on the influx of tourist to keep going.
Okinawa is home to the largest US base in the Pacific so it really makes sense that there would be an influx of western shops and restaurants.
I love that they actually went to Okinawa to film this time. Kahalu‘u is beautiful but it’s definitely a different vibe from the real deal.
Cobra Kai is so great. I think even the taxi driver was the original taxi driver with Chozen from the 2nd movie
the only thing that was missing was the song glory of love. I was shocked they didnt play it.
