I don’t think whoever posted it meant it in a malicious way. It’s just when things from your culture are constantly mispronounced and people don’t bother educating themselves it’s mentally exhausting. When we constantly have to go to Starbucks and give fake names because normal people can’t pronounce it, or will butcher it it’s chipping away at a piece of our identity. Step 1 is educating people and desensitizing them to the ‘uncomfotability’ and ‘foreignness’ of it. Love Katie and her videos, and know she works really hard, but just wanted to share my perspective. It’s expected that people pronounce words wrong so I don’t blame her, but it also makes us appreciate x100 anyone who pronounces things correctly.
Well, I’m Mexican American, and it doesn’t bother me when words from my culture are mispronounced. I’m mean, look at my last name! It gets butchered all the time, but oh well. I’m not going to expect anyone to know how to pronounce my name or do research on how to pronounce it. I guess I have other things to worry about. Have a great day, everyone.
It can be annoying, true. I have even laughed at people's mispronounced words. That doesn't change the facts Treat others the. way we wish to be treated! I live in what is considered to be a tri-culture state. When I go somewhere I do not make apologies for my name. I pr
Tostones is typically a side. You know how you'd have biscuits as a side to a meal..same concept. Use it as the side for rice and beans dishes, stewed meats, beans and tofu/tempeh. In mofongo. You don't need to top it with anything per se just add salt to season at the bare minimum. However you can blend or grater up some vingerete with garlic, rice vinegar, chili flakes, oil maybe even add a little of the champagne vingerete you like. Use it like tortilla chips. Dip it in whatever you please🥳💃. Your hubby would love it with grilled chicken or shrimp. Don't go over board and eat half the bag at one time it might (will) hurt your chest and sit in your stomach like a cement 🧱 brick
Wait, what?! This was MY idea! I haven’t even watched the episode but saw this comment. I have been hassling them for years over how they need to have Puerto Rican frozen foods or just more Caribbean frozen foods. And I tag them in pictures of my packages and luggage full of goods that I take/ship to Puerto Rico. I just sent my dad and friend huge boxes full of fall goods. A store in Puerto Rico would do SO well.
You have a wonderful family and I really enjoy watching all of you and you’re the only person that I’ve seen on RUclips that doesn’t irritate me when they are eating in front of a camera😋 you go girl!
I really liked seeing your fall favorites. Sometimes it gets overwhelming with the number of fall seasonal items, especially when I can't find some at my store when I am there, and I forget. It's good to have a shorter do not miss list. Can't wait to see the taste test of the new items. Thanks Katie!
The tostones, pronounced tos toe nes are delicious. It's my favorite way to eat green plantains. You can top them with refried beans, diced tomatoes and onions. Or you can eat them as is.
Hi Katie, sad I’m a little late to the video this week as my gf and I got engaged. I am Cuban and can give you a few ways to eat the new frozen Tos-to-nes which we are so excited about bc the Tostones currently in the TJ’s chip aisle are the best chip in the place. We eat a couple of bags a week and found an interesting and shockingly authentic tasting pairing in the TJ’s Vegan Pesto sold where the hummus is. Cubans usually eat Tostones plain or with a garlicky oil dipping sauce (somewhat like a chimichurri from Argentina/Brazil) or with “Mojo” (j sounds like h in spanish) which is a blood orange based garlicy marinade dressing Cubans put on everything to make it taste better. If you can find some in the ethnic aisle of grocery from Goya or Badia foods, give it a try in the taste test! All the best, Paul
I almost forgot, there’s a recent Miami classic dish...the TOSTON BURGER. You use the Tostones as the bun, throw some tomato and lettuce and salt on it and you have a perfect beef, veggie, or chicken burger dish. great option for an impossible burger too.
Love your hauls! Thanks for spending the time to do these. Also, it gives me minor anxiety thinking about the frozen items sitting on the counter during the whole haul hahaha 😂
My family isn't crazy about pumpkin flavors but I bought the Pumpkin Brioche Bread and made french toast with it and my kids loved it. I already bought a 2nd bag. I plan on buying more and freeze them.
Wow, that's a huge haul! Thank you. I love the new momosas and picked up the Maple coffee. Tostones can be eaten with a meal, add a dipping sauce like guac or even the truffle ketchup would be good since they are a mild plantain.
Love these hauls! Tostones, I add garlic to them. Sometimes I put a mango salsa on top. Other times, chicken nachos but not with chips, I use the tostones. Or plane. I’m Puerto Rican so these are staple. ❤️
I used to watch you first thing on Fridays and Saturdays but so much is getting in the way.. finally watching at 12:15 am Sunday! Hope to get to TJs Monday. I brought the butternut mac and cheese to my folks tonight for dinner. I only got a s snack taste. Yum.
Thank You for taking the time out of your busy day to show us all the new stuff at Trader Joe's I look forward to watching your videos 💖🎃🍁🍂🌟🌟🌟🌟🌟 God Bless You And Your Beautiful Family 🙏🙏🙏
I grew up eating tostones it a Dominican dish. You can dip them in ketchup. My favorite way to eat is with fried cheese or salami or fried egg . Since you are vegetarian you can have them with cheese and add salt and dip them with ketchup the best . Hope you like them
oh my gosh! yay for tostones! rice and beans and salsa. You can also use them as your "taco tortilla" with soy chorizo. You can eat it with guac also. enjoy!
Hi Katie! Yes, please do this type of video for the winter too! That would be great!! ❤️Love your videos! You have such a cute family!🥰 Katie can you maybe recommend some good red & white wines & some good champagne for us now that the holidays are pretty much here! That would be great if you could do that for us!
I loved your suggestion for the Pumpkin Kringle and you were right it was delicious especially warmed in a toaster oven. 😋 I also bought the Apple cider hand soap and it was very fragrant. I went back to buy more and it was all gone.☹ So you're right, if you like something, buy it, don't wait.
I love your Trader Joe's haul and tasting videos Katie. I make a list of items from your videos that I want to get and it makes shopping so much quicker and easier. Love the Harvest soup you recommended. It's so good over roasted baby Yukon Gold cut up potatoes. Love their Pumpkin Body Butter. That's been a fav of mine for years. Got the pumpkin rolls in the frig section and the risotto (2 bags) but haven't tried them yet. I have to get the tostones!
So excited for the Butternut squash Cauliflower Rice Risotto and the Butternut Squash spirals. I will definitely be stocking up on these keto favorites.
I love tostones! You definitely want to season them with an Adobo seasoning (or salt, pepper, and garlic work great) You can eat them alone or maybe have them some jackfruit "carnitas" I'm gonna have to try them!
The pumpkin spice pretzels are dangerous. I bought after seeing them in your video and then just ate the whole bag in one sitting and didn’t even feel bad about it! You only live once!
They are super delicious!! Unfortunately, they are done for the season, at least here in California. I called 5 TJoes and they are done sold out!!! Then I walked into a TJoes in Pasadena, and found 8 bags, I bought 7 (to share with family and friends). So, if you find them...grab them!!
I am so excited because TJ's is opening closer to me sometime soon. Currently we have to drive about an hour to get to the closest one but plans have just been released to build one about 20 minutes away!
Thanks for sharing. Passed up the pumpkin rolls....need to go back! I have the butternut squash mac & cheese but haven't tried it yet. Need to try the spicy pumpkin samosas.....
That was an amazing whole this week! I definitely haven't tried as many of the items as are coming in so I have to get on it when I shop tomorrow. I might have to try that mac and cheese if it's still there! Big hugs :-)
Hey Katie! So excited to see tostones! Best way to eat them is dipped in mayoketchup (mix mayonnaise with ketchup 3:1, and a crushed garlic clove) and pair it with your protein of choice. Very popular food in the Caribbean!
Katie I bought those egg frittatas (the ones with swiss cheese and cauliflower) and they are SO GOOD!! I'm normally not a breakfast person but I bought two boxes and went through them in like a week because they are so moist and flavorful! Thank you for talking about those, I'm going to buy them every time I go now!
Here in Arizona we have a fast food salad chain called Salad and Go and my favorite salad their is they Bruschetta Caprese Salad. Made me think of it when you mentioned your love of salad and caprese.
My husband is Puerto Rican and we will make our own tostones (pronounced TOAST-OWN-AYS if that helps) but if we buy frozen we will sometimes just eat with ketchup, or a salsa, guac, or sofrito. Really anything is great with them
Love your videos and sweet family! I only get to Trader Joe's a few times a year due to several hours away. Your videos help me with my list and I'm planning a Fall trip soon 😊 I've been using pumpkin butter and maple cream in oatmeal and very yummy! Love Fall and pumpkin ❤ Thanks for all you do!
We always leave room for three or four new TJ things. That Holiday Vegetable Hash is definitely on the list for this week's haul, and will add the Caprese Raviolis. I prefer Maduros (sweet) to Tostones (more savory), but when I eat tostones I eat them more like fries, but that's me.
Tostones that are frozen are best done in the pain or baked. You can prob air fry. I cant believe so much of the country never ate plantains- tostones and maduros are everything
The roasted vegetables are good. I'm glad they're back again. What I'm realllllly waiting for is the bacon wrapped scallops. I wish they were there all year round.
I’d recommend the tostones with gauc and pico layered on top. They more of a side to whatever meal your eating but you’ll also find if served as an app at Columbia’s restaurants with gauc and pico.
Can’t wait for the taste test as I’m heading to TJ’s on Sunday but I already know I need that ravioli. Benson likes that butternut mac&cheese, wow as I found that very spicy and Inest hot buffalo wings but mine was very spicy . Nice flavor but I’ll stick with the regular
Katie, it goes without saying. Another lovely haul for inspiration. Thank you for my weekly dose of Trader Joes goodies. Now can you please tell us where do you get your super cute tees. Asking for a friend LOL
On the Tostones. Pronounced Toast-oh-nays It’s a starch. Puerto Rican’s love them but so does my friend from Honduras. She serves with Mexican beans and cheese She said you can put cinnamon sugar on them too. They’re very versatile. I just love them!
You can eat tostones with cheese. Warm it in the air frier , spread butter and put cheese between as a sandwich, or on top as a taco. You also can stuff it with chicken or beef for your husband. Also you can add any type of sauce on the top. We eat those a lot In my country (Venezuela)you can look on google "patacones". Those ones can be made with yellow or green plantains.

Always love seeing the new items. I cannot wait for the refrigerated turkey gravy that’s made with white wine. It’s the absolute best.
