  • Amazing . . Watch my 1985 video footage of vintage N3A Blimp "America", sight & sound: Takeoff, Landing operations +crew @ old Spring Blimp airfield near Houston Texas. Later, 1992 N3A was updated in Ohio & sent to Fla.
I created this video with the RUclips Video Editor ( / editor )
from my 1985 VHS video footage.

It is great to see some Goodyear blimp footage that has the old paint scheme, it would be insane if they would paint one of their current airships exactly like this. Kudos to the ground crew for doing all that grabbing, stretching, bending and dancing under the gondola every time without falling into those spinning propellers.

America N3A was the first Goodyear blimp I got to see up close in the early 80's when it was in Akron.I also got a big piece of it's envelope when it was decommissioned.Since then i have seen several Goodyear blimps up close & got a ride in the Spirit of Goodyear N3A in 2000.I believe that the S.O.G. was using the same car as America.

Great vid! What memories. I was 12 when we moved to Spring in 1975. Lived in Enchanted Oaks and used to ride my bike up to the hangar and watch it take off & land.

I was lucky enough to ride the Goodyear blimp America with my brother when we were kids in the summer of 1977. It was a great experience for this kid! :)

Thank you so much for posting, I videoed the farewell ceremonies when they moved her and it was a sad day. Me and so many others used to pull over and watch the blimp all the time. I hop I am able to find my video, and save it on DVD. The blimp was such a big part of Houston. Loved this chance to see her again.

Thank you so much MrBobm001 for posting this video. I have been looking for videos of the old Goodyear Blimp base in Spring for such a long time. The "AMERICA" N10A and N3A made it's home here for 23 glorious years. I was so sad when Goodyear decided to move it back to Akron in 1992 to be rebuilt and renamed and sent to Pompano Beach, Florida. The old hangar slab can still be seen at the corner of Meadow Edge Lane and Holzwarth Road. Thank you so much again for this video.

I saw it taking off from its base in Houston in 1976, during the time I was there, I also saw the Concorde fly over my sister's house to land at the nearby airport which we saw on TV seconds later. Two pretty weird things to see in the sky!

in my opinion, these older airships were much better looking than todays, their message boards were much bigger then, i am surprised the boards on the new blimps are smaller.

Thank you for the great video! Growing up in Conroe I loved it during Christmas when the blimp would fly around the Houston suburbs and scroll christmas messages and lights. Can't count the number of times we used to pull over and watch it take off and land. Great memories!

Nice footage, but the “ herky jerky” editing makes it hard to watch!
