I adore The Wild Robot and think that it should have even been nominated for Best Picture, but I think Flow winning would be a far more important moment for animation as a whole, as it would prove that you don’t need the biggest budgets and most mainstream appeal to have your film get celebrated and appreciated, especially when it comes to animation, when the medium is typically looked down upon and never given its deserved dues; not to mention, the fact that this is the first Oscar-nominated film from Latvia, a country with an almost nonexistent film industry, would impact them in an insanely positive way if they were honored an Academy Award and encourage further diversity when it comes to the sorts of films that the world decides to put a spotlight on and support, which is genuinely heartwarming to think about.
Flow not only deserves to win but would have a huge, lasting impact on the Latvian film and animation community as well as other small, independent, international studios. I've also seen it more tha 20x in the theater, as opposed to 1x for Wild Robot, which was sufficient for me.
@@sonicsnake44 Made in a unique technique with free software. Costing peanuts compared to the big studios. Largely made by a single guy rather than a patchwork of people following the hollywood recipe. Is not cartoonish unlike most animated films (no talkings, dancing -animals act like they would for the most part). And the credibility of body movements for each animal is unseen. There are so many videos of pets enjoying this film.
@unohoo214 The director did have a small team that he worked with to make the film. They did do a good job studying the real movements and behaviors of these animals.
@ sure. I don't mean he did the whole thing all by himself. Rather impossible. But he was the director, writer, producer, composer, editor etc. very multitalented.
Very nice video! I really want Flow to win, because i am so looking forward for there to be more high quality films like it. It would be also groundbreaking moment for indie animation and small scale industries to see what is possible. So them winning besides the love for flow is also this additional possibly industry changing meaning. Though, i am looking forward to see the wild robot as it sounds wonderful. One thing i really disagree with what u said is that flow is not rewatchable - i really disagree. There is so much depth, many easter eggs you cannot catch in one go and possibility of different interpretations. I have seen it 3 times and each time it hit me differently. I noticed things i didn’t before, it evoked different thoughts and emotions. All probably depending of the mood i was in while watching it. Furthermore, the metaphorical value of a lot of scenes is that i keep thinking of them several times a week, when i am faced with a similar feeling in my life.
Best of luck to either of this films. The fact that both are in such conversations is a treat in itself. I still prefer Flow. It's just something different and the storyline isn't something I have not come across in a lot of mainstream animations. But I agree, Wild Robot is awesome - it would have been awesome seeing Wild Robot follow a Wall-E style because of the first trailer. Great video - you have a way to give both pros and cons from these two animation films. Dude - you listen to animation OST too?! Hell yeah! I do too when I workout - my favorite is Tekken 2, Inuyasha and Sailor Moon's Japanese instrumental.
Hope Flow will win. Wild robot is realy great. Many of my friends even cry in this movie. But after Flow - this movie leaves a lump in your throat and makes you think…
Flow is a ground breaking work. It’s really hard to compare its storytelling style and animation technique with other films. The Wild Robot is good, touching but kinda predictable. My vote goes to Flow. 10 points to Latvia!
Wild Robot is a one time watch movie. Flow is a definite repeat view. 20 years from now, I'll still be watching flow, but I'll have never seen Wild Robot again.
I think you should go deeper about flow... The flow is made in blender that's why the animation is different and the director it's his first time to working with a team on this project! They visited to zoo animals to capture animals voice even capture their behavior that's why the animation is done so well! and more info, i think you will change your mind!
I really hope it isn’t considered how horribly the Staff were treated, but I know it has a really good Chance as It is the Highest grossing animated film ever and Disney already has a lot of Sway in the Oscars.
What's so special about this animation? I slept through half of it 🙄🙄. So let me get this straight, you guys find something "amazing" in animals surviving on their basic instincts? Heck, when it rains and my cats cage is getting too much water, they literally move to a higher ground to avoid a drowning situation. Basic instincts. Now, I won't take anything away from the maker or producer or whatever, the guy who made it, but c'mon people. What's so special about animals using their natural instincts to move from a lowland being overrun by water to a higher ground to avoid drowning? Okay that one part where the cat was floating and the bird sort of flew away was a nice shot. Other than that, what I saw in that animation is the same thing I see everyday with animals. They are living creatures, they follow their instincts when it's necessary. No big deal. How this animation beat the wild robot is beyond my comprehension. You mean to tell me a group of animals surviving on their instincts is more mind blowing, more heartwarming, more phenomenal than a robot learning to love? To develop feelings? To override it's code and become "human". What is wrong with you people? Do you not recognize imagination anymore? What's so imaginative about flow, huh? How is this award being given anyways? So did flow win it because it was a small studio vs the giants? Bro, if the small studio made wild robot, I would be at the forefront fighting for their accolades but let's face it, flow didn't deserve to win this. There's nothing special about it. No touching moment... No heart pulling soundtrack .. even the story is basic. Basic. No offense to Latviana or stuff. I understand the guy is now some national treasure but let's be honest... There's really nothing special about flow. I'm appalled they gave the win to flow when it didn't deserve it.
I hope Oscars go with the Flow
Pun
truly hope that flow will win
All of Latvia is hoping for that too. ❤
Flow needs to win
Let's be honest flow is going to win
I have set my expectations already for this haha
I hope so! I loved Flow!

wild robot is an amazing cartoon but flow is the future of animated films
I really enjoyed Flow but how is it the future of animated movies?

Praying Flow wins x

I love this comment! Thank you for the support! Inuyasha is golden! Anime OSTs are just so hopeful and epic I love it

Nothing against Wild Robot, but Flow is something different - so I would vote for Flow!

I would like wild robot to win too but the academy loves films like Flow so we’ll see
I think you should go deeper about flow...

I love both films but i like flow more becuz there just animals and nature😊❤
I hope that the wild robot wins!!! love this analysis
Memoir of a snail for me
Flow already won the Golden Globes, so i want the wild robot to win this one, and flow to win the best international. a win-win technically
I predict inside out 2
LOL
I am fine with either film winning.
The wild robot deserves the oscar
I think it's going to be Inside out 2.
That would be a crazy upset. I’m here for it though
I really hope it isn’t considered how horribly the Staff were treated, but I know it has a really good Chance as It is the Highest grossing animated film ever and Disney already has a lot of Sway in the Oscars.
