.12 releases are generally the most stable and are the ones that get the long term bug fixes and support so not necessarily a bad thing :)))
I just upgraded our fleet to that version literally yesterday as well!
Avid is old antiquated technology. Transcription in da Vinci resolve works perfectly every time. Never understood why Hollywood uses avid when there’s so many better options.
Show source track names is killer.
Can we add all attached tracks to an AAF yet? To get around overcutting or conform of all mic source before sending to vendors that won't do that?
To be honest I've never had to over cut or conform the other ISOs in 12 years in post. There is a function in ProTools to restore those. They don't need to be restored onto the timeline before AAF export.
Plenty of places have assistants prep that way. It’s dumb as hell but not super uncommon.
Yeah I've heard people say the same through the channel before. I did it once when I started out and was working in a facility but never since I went freelance in 2013. If I was asked to do it these days I'd push back against it
AVID is still light years late in providing on screen text from a generated transcript or being bale to edit synced text on the page and have the editor perform the corresponding edits on the timeline in the video automatically. Look at what Descript can do Fn amazing and light years ahead of AVID.
I just added script sync to my AVID. Seeing your video was very well timed. THANKS!. I have a completed documentary of about 30 minutes in length. When I created subcaps from your instructions, some of the captions were entire paragraphs.really long. How can I split the script to generate useable timecode breaks to make shorted subcaps.
Hey so you can make seperate script bins with just a chunk of the script. Not at my desk to run through the steps and type them but will try to do this soon. If I don't reply here within a few days just poke this thread 😉
@@theavidassistant Trying to picture this. Looking forward to your notes. The program TRT is 30 minutes. Some lines are just fine. I was wondering if putting add edits into a mixdown audio track would allow for timecode breaks to shorten the longer paragraphs when I re-generate the transcript/subcap. Like I said, I eagerly wait your notes.
Found a workaround. Just break up the clip in the timeline track with add edits and edit down the copy in the effect parameters. Very time consuming but effective in the end.Is there any way of inserting time codes or something so that this wouldn't be so laborious??
It should be noted that on Windows the GPU is utilized which makes indexing a lot faster.
Just on windows? I find the indexing personally to be pretty quick!
Open timeline IO is huge if it means reliable compatibility between media composer, Final Cut x, resolve and premier. Is this the case?
Too early to tell. But that would be a part of it. Also will help with scripting and handovers to VFX and online. Basically it makes a text files similar to an EDL but with a lot more information. And with it being an Open format developed by and for all platforms, it should mean much better interoperability yeah.
Short avid question: I have a clip on V1 and A1&A2. I only have those tracks activated. I can use the red arrow and move that clip. Now I move another clip with the red arrow that has A1,A2,A3,A4. Avid will active all those tracks when I move a clip. So next time when I edit something into my time line I've to disable the tracks I don't want (I mostly use A1 and A2). Is there a way to move a clip and the audio without activating all those audio tracks? Because if I click on my v1/a1,a2 clip after it won't just activate those, a3 and a4 will still be enabled. So avid always enables tracks I don't want to enable. Slows down my work flow. Thanks.

Do you know if there is a way to make the transcription into markers in Media Composer? In the production house I work in is more marker based than script based and right now we use a third party software for our transcriptions. Could save us time and money if we could keep it inside of Media Composer :)
I've tried exporting a transcript and running it through editingtools marker converter, but that didn't work. Might be me using the wrong settings.
It works when I export a "subcap transcript", convert it to markers and import it. But sadly it doesn't differentiate between different speakers.

Not that I know of sorry. Subcap export is your best bet. The speaker ID isn't 100% reliable yet anyways :)
is it possible to have two versions of media composer on the same HD?
No, you cannot have two installed on the same system. You would have to have a partition with another OS installed in order to have two versions on the same system.
Transcription works only with MC Ultimate, right? :(

Are you on the standard version of Avid? Or the ultimate subscription? Transcription features are only available on the ultimate package as it's part of ScriptSync / PhraseFind

Hey I have a general question that I thought I'd put here in hopes someone knows what to do. My Avid is constantly freezing but the thing is I have a massive computer that should never be slowing down. I check the task manager processes and my memory is always capping at 50%. it never uses more than 50% and I think this is my problem but I can't figure out and have no idea how to make it use more.
Also this could be the issue the project is being saved onto a hardrive not straight into the PC could this be part of the issue? the footage is on this drive too.
Ok 7 minutes have gone by since I commented this and I'm thinking to myself it is definitely because I'm running it through my external hardrive lmao
@imadethissoicouldcomment2549 so I'd definitely recommend having the project on another drive or the system drive though it shouldn't be causing constant freezing? Are you linking to your media by chance? Avid has never been great with that, always prefers transcoded media.
@@theavidassistant yes it’s linked media and it freezes for about 5 seconds often when I load media into the source monitor. Do you think it has anything to do with my memory only using half of what’s available?
@imadethissoicouldcomment2549 no they're fairly common. Unless your memory is super low like 8GB or something I wouldn't think so. My feeling is just that it's linked media, which avid isn't great with. What is the format of the file you've linked in?
@@theavidassistant hey first off I wanted to say thanks you for responding so quickly and being so helpful. Back to my issue. I’m using mp4 and I started working on another project that I had recently dumped all the files onto one of my pcs drives just to hold. This project is also mp4 linked media but it’s saved directly to my pc and it didn’t freeze or perform slow in any way. It must have been because of the drive I was using. I think based on this… it’s funny bc I’m kinda happy I might have figured it out but now kinda annoyed, is it always going to run slow if I’m not going directly through my computers drives?
Is Avid fully supported on mac0S Sonoma 14.3.1 i have been waiting to update but not sure?
So it's only officially supported up to Sonoma 14.1, however I have been using this version on a short film for a week on Sonoma 14.3 and haven't had any issues. I reckon it would be fine but at the same time it could just be my system to maybe only update if you have to. Ventura is a fairly solid OS :)

Well, the new update is disappointing. If they keep this up, everyone will end up using Davinci Resolve.

Qualified but not native. Though I will say I've been cutting with it on an M2 Max machine for a week with zero issues.
