    Sub frame keyframing is the best thing ever. All audio editing should be based on samples instead of frames. All other NLEs are already able to do this.

    • @theavidassistant

      Fascinating. I can't see myself ever using this but nice to know the option is there :)

      @@theavidassistant If you ever need to frankenbite two syllables into a word the talent has never said, being able to slide the audio clip by just a few precent of a frame makes all the difference. Also music editing is much more precise if you can actually line up the beats instead of being stuck at moving with 1/24th of a second.

      @@isiosi Next we would need subframe editing. I often end up with groups where the various audio tracks are off by less than a frame and it causes phasing. Would be nice to resync them perfectly. I know it's kind of possible if the project has the 35mm option, but not even sure it works with groups.

    Subframe audio is huge, it's been a feature request for eternity. HOWEVER, are we able to slip an audio track sub frame as well? (not including the source settings slipping as that is useless - it needs to be able to be done in the timeline or don't bother). External audio is often less than a frame out of sync with camera audio for example. Can you add edit within the frame boundary and adjust at the sample level? If not, then this is only really useful for getting rid of clicks and pops

    Thanks for these updates, they're always so useful especially with the demonstrations!
    With transcripts on these recent versions, they're just saved to where a user sets the Search Data Directory, right? Have you played around with this and how it works with multiple users on a Nexis system, and (for an added complication) if it plays nicely if you have users on both Mac and PC?
    Do you also know if this new transcription engine will transcribe clips in a sequence if you have a bin that just has sequences, but not the reference clips? Or is it only going to work if you've got a bin with the actual master clips sitting loose?

    • @theavidassistant
      @theavidassistant  2 месяца назад

      Hey! Thanks for watching 🙏
      So yes the transcripts are saved to where you set the indexing to be. An important note on this in recent versions is that it seems modern Mac systems with perform much better on a network environment if you set the indexing to be local, rather than inside the project or on the network.
      Also the transcription will always be scanning all master clips in the background so they will always be transcribed and will show up in the transcription tool. Sequences however are a bit murky. You can make a transcript from a sequence and export it out as text, as well as export a subcap file which can be imported back in to create automatic captions. However you CANNOT use sequences with this transcript tool as shown in the video at this time as it wouldn't fit in with the timecoded format without creating a whole new transcript. So basically the engine can transcribe a sequence on command but it can't show it in this transcript tool as I showed here.
      Hope that answered the questions!

    transcription tool is great, wish it was a searchable option like scripts are a searchable option

    • @theavidassistant
      @theavidassistant  2 месяца назад

      How do you mean a searchable option? We can search through the transcript from the bottom of the window and we can search the project for any line spoken using the find window.

    I have learnt a lot from this channel as an assistant editor trying to get into avid media composer. Can someone point to to a few resources for learning avid command scripting to automate some tasks in avid? I am very curious about it. I would be very helpful for the help. Thank you in advance. Cheers

    Thanks for your tutorial very well explained. In my experience, when I create "transcript from clip" on a Mac Mini M2 and Mac Studio M1, Avid stuck when Indexing, and I have to force quit the program. Any ideas for this issue? Thank you.

    If you showed it, perhaps I missed it but I didn't see direct Transcript to Timeline editing. That will be a huge timesaver especially when cutting interviews.

    • @theavidassistant
      @theavidassistant  2 месяца назад

      You can load a clip in the source monitor and then navigate through it using the transcript, then you could apply marks and edit onto the timeline from there. However if you want a transcript where you can load all rushes and not have to go back to the scene bin to load the next shot, then that's ScriptSync:)

  • @supercanardo
    @supercanardo 2 месяца назад

    Nice addition. Now I hope there will be a better integration between Transcript and Scriptsync. For instance, if a clip has a Script, why can't it be used instead of the Transcript window? Also, are Transcripts searchable at a project level? In documentary, I use Scriptsync all the time to see if someone mentions a particular word in any of the interviews.

    • @theavidassistant
      @theavidassistant  2 месяца назад +1

      Well there's always been the PhraseFind feature that we can use to search the whole project for any spoke word. This integrates nicely with the transcripts. So you could have the find window up when cutting a doco and use that to search the whole project for a line or word, then jump the transcript tool for navigating through the clip?
      They are refining these features with each release since 2023.8 so I'm sure there's more to come in the future :)

    Hi it would be great if you could do a quick video where you just edit a short scene, from ingesting the footage to exporting and including the whole edit from cutting to adding sound design etc. as there's many tutorials for understanding how to use the controls of avid but not any actually displaying the skills in an actual scenario of editing. Thanks.

    • @theavidassistant

      So I have that for Assistant Editing workflows. Where I walk through the whole process for ingesting and prepping rushes for an editor in long form. Then another series for advanced 1st assistant stuff.
      Cutting however is so subjective. I can show how I would go about it but that would not be a short video. Plus every editor I've worked with does things differently. It's why I've kept the channel mostly technical or workflow stuff. Since it's objectively true. I have a series on Patreon/youtube members showing my subjective approaches to things but unsure how to bring that to this platform.
      I'll have a think about it. Maybe a new playlist of videos around cutting something in avid with tips and demos based on how I would go about things.

      @@theavidassistant Ok no problem that makes total sense, maybe some time in the future a video where you could address some common issues during cutting like keeping all audio tracks in sync within complex timelines. Thanks for the reply.

    • @theavidassistant
      @theavidassistant  Месяц назад +1

      @GoodladEdits no worries. For that I'd maybe check out the smart tools and trimming video on the channel. Should help.
      Personally I'm a big fan of the sync locks. I keep all tracks sync locked all the time and use yellow trim to trim and have all other media ripple in sync. Red if I just wanna take a small chunk of audio or video out but keep a gap where it was.

      Quote from a member of Avid support on the topic:
      "I wish Ttiler+ was ready and came out with 2024.6 but... it wasnt ready and employees/customers who have been testing, and providing feedback know its almost there but not quite yet. After all everyone has been through, we want a great experience and will hold / tweak it until we feel it is ready."

    • @theavidassistant
      @theavidassistant  2 месяца назад +1

      Paid. The free version of avid has a different name "Media Composer FIRST" and is not really a free version like how Resolve has a free version. Media Composer First is purely for training and is missing a lot of the key features to be used as a professional tool.
      Also the transcription features are only in the ultimate edition.
