This was such a great review and I can see how it would be so hard to put together because, like you said, each episode is just so tight and rich with nuanced characters. I love that this series has queer characters who express themselves because I feel like we’re used to seeing queer characters do a lot of pining, long gazes, and where the connection is mainly physical. I didn’t pick up on the church being symbolic to women being silent and invisible so that catch was great!
You did a GREAT job summarizing this season. I never thought I’d like ALOTO this much but I do. In my honest opinion this may be the best sapphic show we’ve ever had…and lately we’ve had quite a few shows to choose from. But as you point out this show is so well rounded in how each character is treated as queer (or not). It is relatable, light, honest, shows racial disparities, is dark at times, sexy and just REAL!!! And at times just knocks us off our feet. And yes I love, love, love Greta and Carson together. And even though Greta is sexy as f*ck, my real crush is on Carson. She’s so relatable, she tries so hard to be a good person, and she’s so awkward…but comes through in the end. (And what a tough way to come out). I really root for those 2 in season 2. Just as an aside though I love Shirley, the ocd, homophobic, terrified woman who finally figures out the reality of life. I completely cracked up when she kissed Carson. It was hysterical!!! Thank you for your recaps and your shrewd observations. This is great!!!! ♥️🏳️🌈🥰
@@100percentshipper I completely understand. You covered so much--I think you did a really good job melding the entire series (there was lots to unpack)! I can’t wait to see what you compile for season 2!!!! 💜
Fantastic video! Thank you for investing so much time into its creation. I have just finished my fourth viewing of this season and see new things each time. I really, really hope they're given a second season to continue the character and theme explorations. "Drip-feeding" is a great way to describe what queer audiences have been given in the past (I'm thinking Thasmin) and so many other shows. And it was absolutely wonderful to see so much attention and care given to both the storylines of Max and Carson. And for Greta and Carson's romance. Again, I really hope Amazon steps up and renews this show.
I know! The fact they haven't said anything yet gives me hope... But I get the feeling that negotiations are not going super smooth based off a comment by Abbi Jacobson in an interview and they're still trying to secure the next season.
The one trope I'm glad they didn't do is the whole best friend falling for each other. I was worried about that with Jo and Greta especially in the beginning when Greta was getting to know Carson and Jo was giving her side eye or Jo inserting herself into their conversations. But plot twist Jo was just looking out for Greta and they're just platonic friends. I've never fallen for a friend so I always cringe at those storylines. I hope we get a season 2 because I really got invested in everyone. I hope we get more background on the other characters as well.
I'm glad they didn't do that trope, too, but never fallen for a friend?! Wowzer. That's all I did from 13 till 21 when I found a friend who fell for me back (still together after 15 years, though). :D But you're right, I would have hated that storyline, glad Jo and Greta were just platonic - I think Jo's character arc would have suffered if they made her Carson's romantic rival or the jealous third wheel. This way she remained a lot more likeable even when things went south after the bar raid.
I literally Binge watched this last night, and found this page today... My JOY knows no bounds as you spoke my mind with every word! An AMAZING review, I can't wait for season 2. Thank you so much for all you do ❤️👏💯
@@100percentshipper well of course! This show took my heart by storm and I can't get enough of it. I've watched it three times by now and in my opinion there are not enough people talking about it. So I'm just really glad when someone is posting a video or talks about it in a podcast :)
Really great nutshelling, it is a hella dense show. I haven’t fallen for a show or a ship like this in yeeeears so I’m stoked on this show, it’s characters and actors. The stories and history and representation, it’s just all as much of a 10/10 as I could give. ❤❤❤
I'm literally obsessed with this show oh my goodness I love it Carson and Greta the height difference 😳(i was like Lupe ) I absolutely adore Esti she's so cute wish that was more screenshot with her all im wishing for is for a second season ❤️
Pobre Esti. I felt so sorry for her, thinking they'd just ignored her in the show, let alone the team, and then they went and put in that storyline. 😊 If we get a series 2, I hope we get to see more of her and the team extras, and what happened during the off-season as I think that would help with character insight and development. Lupe and the height difference line made me laugh so much as friends would say that to me: I'm 5' 8" and my first girlfriend was 4' 10". My neck's never recovered. 😂
I feel like a bit of an ass because I was the one who was getting annoyed with all the focus on the main romance. I loved the friendships and side characters and I really wanted more equally divided time for the ensemble. One of the things I like best about Max's side of the show is how well balanced the different elements seem with her life and person being the focus rather than her romances, and how much we get to see of the different characters around her in meaningful ways. I mean, her "boyfriend" get more meaningful screen time, and I think possibly lines than several of the Peaches. Im gladthese is a show like this, and happy for the shippers getting that time, but yeah. P.S. Bertie and Gracie! Oh they are just so so lovely together. Im so glad we got as much of them as we did both as a couple and individuals but Lupe, Jess, and Esti just completely stole my heart. Getting more of that trio is what makes me want a season two.
Thank you so much for putting this together. I found out about this show through your channel and have now watched it through twice. Loved it! Fantastic portrayal of queer women's history. I can't wait for season two :)
Hilarious scene with Carson’s OCD roommate her eating the canned food and the kiss to prove there was zero sexual feelings to turn her queer. I laughed hard at her facial and physical comedic antics. One of the best scenes ever.
From what I understand sevetal of other actors said that they had trouble getting through the scenes with Kate Berlant, who plays Shirley, because she is so funny.
Thank you, thank you SO much for this video. 🙏🥰. Yes, I can’t imagine how much time it must have taken to choose and then pull out the clips you wanted to talk about. And then you had to create the script we heard here. Wow. Amazing.
