Three polls were released in the past few days. They each showed yes/no% support of 47/53, 49/51 and 44/56. The 44/56 poll was conducted by YouGov who tends to overestimate the level of support for subjugation by England. What it actually shows is that support hasn't budged and Yes could well be in the lead given a 3% margin of error in typical polling. Also, the long term trend for support for independence has been an increase.
We went through a pretty late miscarriage recently and the idea that the police would be involved is horrible. We live in Japan so thankfully nothing like that happened but it is a horrible, horrible experience that is traumatic enough without police being involved. Whatever minute possibility you are trying to prevent by involving the police is just not worth it. A woman automatically feels enough guiilt and blame without being investigated. It took a lot to convince my wife that it wasn't her fault without a copper scribbling in their notebook over our shoulder.
The solution would have been to have a referendum on the creation of the Maastricht treaty. We didn't because the government of the time felt the public would have chosen "no", so they just did it anyway, and eventually it came back to bite the Tories in the backside. So we ended up with UKIP being the biggest party in the EU parliament and most of the country voting for Farage. The only ones complaining about this now are remoaners. For some reason they think if they moan hard enough, eventually they will get their way and obliterate democracy. They are deluded, and I don't see any of them leaving the UK to go and live in the EU, it is they who want to drag the electorate back in, not leave voters dragging anyone out. Try moving to the EU and see how green that grass is on the other side, with the far right taking a stranglehold just as happened in the 1930's. The judge accepts that Huw did not pay for IIOC, did not directly ask for IIOC, specified to the person he was in contact with not to send images of anyone underage, he did not substantively "make" any IIOC, and also the judge further accepted that there was no evidence to suggest he sought other sources of IIOC or did anything other than open the images in WhatsApp. While at first glance all the stories would have you believe Huw to be a monster, upon reflection, the sentence seems reasonable and justified overall.

I would personally equate the way Cameron and the Tories treated Scotland in relation to the referendum wasn't much different to the way they treated Republican prisoners during the first hunger strike. They made lots of promises and said things would change etc, remember the speech by Cameron; but once the vote went the way of Westminster they stepped back and changed nothing !!
I agree they didn't do enough (my preference would be a federalised UK with England divided up into 5 or 6 regions) but there were a few major things. E.g. Holyrood got full control over Scottish income tax and various other duties. Ultimately money is power so that was quite a change

Free university fees, separate NHS pay deals and not cancelling winter fuel allowance to mention a couple. I am in Belfast, a united Ireland is my ultimate aim but from a logical perspective I would love full autonomy if we could find a couple of decent leaders lol. I think the fact Westminster will lose financial control is the main thing that is stopping any further moves towards English devolution etc.

It moves control on local issues closer to where they matter and gives each national community the chance to reflect their identity, without losing the benefits of pooling our strengths where it makes sense (e.g. national security). So in this instance "make" just means possession. It's a term used when knowledge and control can't be proved (meaning they've been recovered from a now deleted source). This is a standard sentence, it's generally 12 to 18 months for a first time offense, sentences under 24 months can be suspended for up to 24 months. They normally include a fine or community service, but in this place they've been went for mandate medical session. Pleading guilty at an early stage gets you up to 1/3 off your sentence, and his mental health gives extra off. I work in digital forensics, so i deal with this almost daily.

And since 2021 with the surging out of control inflation levels, most people's wages haven't kept up anywhere near inflation levels. In April 2022 RPI inflation rate in the UK was 8%, in April 2023 RPI rate was 13%, and April 2024 5%. I got a 3% pay increase in 2022, a 5% increase in 2023, and another 5% increase in 2024. And energy price increases since 2021 have been way above those RPI rates. Plus from 1997 up until 2010 under the last Labour government average wages again in real terms adjusted for inflation went up by 25.7% for the whole period. Those are facts not just my opion. And the last Labour government increased funding for the NHS to to it's highest levels adjusted for inflation in well over 40 yrs or more. And the result was waiting times falling a lot right up until 2010. Well the tories have done the exact opposite to Labour since 2010. And NHS waiting times since 2010 have been going up a lot, more recently going thru the roof. Our roads literally falling apart everywhere, schools and hospitals falling apart, 600 police stations shut down since 2010, 20000 less police officers, crime rates going up since 2010, poverty, inequality and homelessness rising at an alarming rate since 2010. Our economy going nowhere since 2010 and now in a recession, local councils going bankrupt or on the verge, Health and safety executive unable to do their job properly more accidents on farms etc. No resources to process asylum claims, hence some asylum seekers being put in hotels at our expense waiting to be processed. Unable to deport failed asylum seekers because doris johnson didn't renew the Dublin Agreement with the EU, which allowed us to deport failed asylum seekers. Immigration going up since 2010 and now higher than ever before. Billions of pounds in lost GDP, lost growth thanks to leaving the EU. The national debt a lot higher now than it was in 2010. These are just some of the legacy of our previous tory government since 2010

I think the suspended sentence is due to the prison crisis, and the fact in the WhatsApp corrospondence he does ask for "nothing illegal". Do I think it is good/right desicion, or that Edwards looked at those photos and couldn't tell the photos were of minors? No. However, I think Ava's reaction is worth examining in regards to the politics of the justice system, prisons and rehabilation. If Labour had intervened for a harsh sentence, would it be considered government overreach or justified. Should politicians be trusted to intervene when they can be influenced by donors, media, and public opinion.
Politicians should not intervene in judicial proceedings. Now matter how serious the alleged crime. The judiciary must remain independent from politics and from the police for more than just Government overreach. Not only because politicians don't actually know the law in most cases, or have access to any evidence or facts. But because maintaining this separation aids in keeping trust in the process (though trust has been dwindling, partly due to perceived favouritism), protection of the law and of human rights. All of which would be completely undermined if politics got involved.

On the day a majority of the population made a decision, if we undermine that by holding for example a 2nd EU referendum what's to say in 10 years we have a 3rd ? The judge accepts that Huw did not pay for IIOC, did not directly ask for IIOC, specified to the person he was in contact with not to send images of anyone underage, he did not substantively "make" any IIOC, and also the judge further accepted that there was no evidence to suggest he sought other sources of IIOC or did anything other than open the images in WhatsApp.
While at first glance all the stories would have you believe Huw to be a monster, upon reflection, the sentence seems reasonable and justified overall.

I would personally equate the way Cameron and the Tories treated Scotland in relation to the referendum wasn't much different to the way they treated Republican prisoners during the first hunger strike. They made lots of promises and said things would change etc, remember the speech by Cameron; but once the vote went the way of Westminster they stepped back and changed nothing !!
I agree they didn't do enough (my preference would be a federalised UK with England divided up into 5 or 6 regions) but there were a few major things. E.g. Holyrood got full control over Scottish income tax and various other duties. Ultimately money is power so that was quite a change

Free university fees, separate NHS pay deals and not cancelling winter fuel allowance to mention a couple. I am in Belfast, a united Ireland is my ultimate aim but from a logical perspective I would love full autonomy if we could find a couple of decent leaders lol. I think the fact Westminster will lose financial control is the main thing that is stopping any further moves towards English devolution etc.

It moves control on local issues closer to where they matter and gives each national community the chance to reflect their identity, without losing the benefits of pooling our strengths where it makes sense (e.g. national security). And since 2021 with the surging out of control inflation levels, most people's wages haven't kept up anywhere near inflation levels. In April 2022 RPI inflation rate in the UK was 8%, in April 2023 RPI rate was 13%, and April 2024 5%. I got a 3% pay increase in 2022, a 5% increase in 2023, and another 5% increase in 2024. And energy price increases since 2021 have been way above those RPI rates. Plus from 1997 up until 2010 under the last Labour government average wages again in real terms adjusted for inflation went up by 25.7% for the whole period. Those are facts not just my opion. And the last Labour government increased funding for the NHS to to it's highest levels adjusted for inflation in well over 40 yrs or more. And the result was waiting times falling a lot right up until 2010. Well the tories have done the exact opposite to Labour since 2010. And NHS waiting times since 2010 have been going up a lot, more recently going thru the roof. Our roads literally falling apart everywhere, schools and hospitals falling apart, 600 police stations shut down since 2010, 20000 less police officers, crime rates going up since 2010, poverty, inequality and homelessness rising at an alarming rate since 2010. Our economy going nowhere since 2010 and now in a recession, local councils going bankrupt or on the verge, Health and safety executive unable to do their job properly more accidents on farms etc. No resources to process asylum claims, hence some asylum seekers being put in hotels at our expense waiting to be processed. Unable to deport failed asylum seekers because doris johnson didn't renew the Dublin Agreement with the EU, which allowed us to deport failed asylum seekers. Immigration going up since 2010 and now higher than ever before. Billions of pounds in lost GDP, lost growth thanks to leaving the EU. The national debt a lot higher now than it was in 2010. These are just some of the legacy of our previous tory government since 2010

I think the suspended sentence is due to the prison crisis, and the fact in the WhatsApp corrospondence he does ask for "nothing illegal".
Do I think it is good/right desicion, or that Edwards looked at those photos and couldn't tell the photos were of minors? No.
However, I think Ava's reaction is worth examining in regards to the politics of the justice system, prisons and rehabilation. If Labour had intervened for a harsh sentence, would it be considered government overreach or justified. Should politicians be trusted to intervene when they can be influenced by donors, media, and public opinion.
Politicians should not intervene in judicial proceedings. Now matter how serious the alleged crime. The judiciary must remain independent from politics and from the police for more than just Government overreach. Not only because politicians don't actually know the law in most cases, or have access to any evidence or facts. But because maintaining this separation aids in keeping trust in the process (though trust has been dwindling, partly due to perceived favouritism), protection of the law and of human rights. All of which would be completely undermined if politics got involved.

I cant see Scotland voting for independence while the UK is out of the EU. The headache of the border between Scotland, England, and Northern Ireland would swing too many undecided voters towards no. Even if the UK somehow rejoined the EU, it would take a long time before people would be willing to risk another seperation.
In my opinion, some sort of devo max or federal system is the best Scotland can hope for, certainly in my lifetime.

All the arguments about a 2nd Scottish Independence Referendum are the same arguments being used for a 2nd Brexit referendum, even down to Ed saying that with the amount of No voters that have died if held today young people would vote Yes.
If we keep revisting referendums then what value do they hold ? We will end up in a cycle of holding a referendum every number of years until the party in charge gets the vote it wants whether that's independence, the alternative vote or EU membership.
So would you say that both Brexit and Scotland still being tethered to a failing UK ( and despite the promises made in 2014 being dragged out of the EU ) have both been a resounding success ? Democracy is not ( and never has been ) a static entity - otherwise we wouldn't bother with Elections - circumstances change
