  • Today on Quick Riffs, we have a look at how to play Get It On by 80s German hard rock band Kingdom Come. A band who took no small amount of criticism for sounding just a bit to much like the mighty Led Zeppelin. They denied this of course (as one would expect), but the similarities, in not only the music, but also in lead singer Lenny Wolf's vocal imitations of Robert Plant, are pretty undeniable. Still good though, haha. I liked these guys a lot back in the day. Hell, if you're going to imitate someone, might as well imitate the best.
    This was one of their better tracks from that killer debit album, and it's got an awesome opening riff. Today, gonna show you how to play it.
    Hope you enjoy. Cheers, KDA

    I was at the Monsters of Rock tour at Mile High stadium.
    Kingdom Come,
    Dokken
    The scorpions.Metallica
    And Van Halen.
    I will never forget that day
    Holy balls.!!
    I mean it was f+-&_-ng bad ass.
    It still rings in my memory.
    It is super cool for you to teach that.
    My ears will melt ...
    And then my eyes.
    We named our band .
    After a heavy night of Stella Artois and Jose Cuervo
    .......fuck
    .............we are now branded as Mad Cow.
    I am looking forward to my liver being replaced and putting out our first album.
    Mike,,,our drummer went to the strip club after he left. He is currently incarcerated. He had priors. The bouncers took him out of the establishment and all hell broke loose.
    I put money on his books.......he ain't getting out.
    Marty.....our bass player knocked up a chick.
    He's not going to be around for a few years.
    Damn........we sounded great.

    Been digging this track since 1988 myself. It has never bothered me when a band copies Zep’s sound and vibe. It’s not like Page, Jones and Plant are still out there using it 😄 Thanks for posting this quick lesson on this awesome song \m/

    Remember ‘Led Clones’ by Gary Moore with Ozzy on vocals? It was a response to this tune.

      Good memory about the Gary song!...Yep, that/this song, and a few others, had Gary pretty pissed off about several bands getting too close to Zep...
      Funny thing to me was the song by Gary "End of the World" sounded VERY "hopped up" Zeppy to my ears!!!...so, whatever Gary...

    I wasn't able to follow the music scene most of '88, so this is the first I'm hearing the riff, and it is indeed a jam. I'm saving this clip to try to learn it, which is a first for me and unfamiliar tunes. Thanks, and rock on, KDA et al.!

    Funny how the universe works, was listening to Zep the other day and started thinking about bands that kind copied them, and Kingdom Come came to mind. I thought they nailed it with Get in On, and then wondered what happened to them, two days later you post it.

    i can for the world not think of one bit of "criticism" for sounding a "bit" too much like Led Zep......it's a hallmark of good taste....cheers..
    haha...from germany...and NO....i didn't know these guys back then...but i did live in England at the time.....😅...and thx

    • @d.williams9894
      @d.williams9894 9 месяцев назад +1

      If you were in England and Germany just before the time of the first "Kingdom Come" album then you may have heard of the pre-runner band, run by the K/C singer Lenny Wolf, called "Stone Fury" who were very melodic hard rock for then but not QUITE the LedZep clone that K/C was...
      Lenny got guitarist Danny Stagg into the project changing S/F into K/C when he told Danny (and rest of the new band...) to play very close to Pagey as possible...
      "Stone Fury" got quite a good amount of print press from British "Kerrang" magazine at the time...
      Lots of memories reading mags way back then...

      @KellyDeanAllenGuitar  9 месяцев назад +1

      Agreed. They took a lot of shit at the time, but there was no denying that they could play and write good 80s hard rock music. Derivative of Zeppelin to some extent for sure, but still good.

  • @CaptNoLikey

    Loved this band too! Never understood the hate about sounding like Zep. Hell, listen to Crown Lands. Vocals sound a lot like Plant and Geddy Lee but still kicks butt!

  • @d.williams9894
    @d.williams9894 9 месяцев назад

    i always used to play the second half of the riff (the A string/D string blues walkup-down) as not 4th fret/5th fret hammer on-off, but as a 4th fret pulldown (which bends up of course) and release back to 4th fret giving it a more "Pagey" twist..
    I thought of that riff as less "The Ocean" and more screwing around with the "Black Dog" riff coupled with "Houses of the Holy" riff...
    And I heard the whole guitar parts as way more staccato (making a "stomp:"...) than your version, with the bass and drums giving the song the swing/strut underneath, THAT was the "Zep" ripoff...(Page snaps versus Jones-Bonham grooves)
    Just saying...IMHO...thanks for the memory jog...
