Im in tokyo now and I just got the japan version SBSA025 with the weekdays in Japanese… not bad for a 210€ watch. I couldn’t be happier with the quality.
Jason M That’s a good way to say it! 😁 Thanks for watching and commenting! If you’re not subscribed already I hope you will! Once we reach 1000 subscribers we’ll be doing another watch giveaway! You won’t want to miss it!
Hardlex is a proprietary crystal made by Seiko, a definite upgrade to mineral crystal. Something you should have taken some time to do research on. Unless you plan on doing something really rough (which you wouldn't wear your sapphire crystal watch to either).. you should be fine. Seiko makes fantastic watches, and honestly man.. it seems like even for a beginning watch reviewer you don't know much. Not because you're inexperienced, but due to lack of easily researched knowledge.
I have a Traser watch which is PVDed all over except for the screwback. When I bought it, it was perfectly black. But after some time it turned brownish (I ride a lot and I work outdoor. Exposure to sunlight is not good for PVD coating I assume). Thanks for the review mate
Any literature I've read states 10bar or 100m is fine for swimming and water sports. I'm not a diver, never have...swimming or snorkel is about the size of it so while screw down and 200m is nice and I have a few watches that are, pretty overkill for most average folks application. Sure if you dive get a dive watch with a dive spec resist rating by all means. I also realize 100m doesn't mean you can go 100m but still if not diving no problem.
The weight is perfect! The extra weight doesn't make it feel cheap like my Seiko sngz. So I actually don't mind it. It's on par with my Swiss pieces. So it's a constant reminder that I'm wearing a quality watch. I love the blacked out design! To my surprise, while I was in the dark, the watch actually has a slight lume with the hour indexes!! So it's all good afterall!
Eugene Tsang I like heavy watches aswell. Like my Breitlings and Planet Ocean. I was speaking in terms of the 5kx. I’ve owned turtles on bracelet and Orient Tritons (blue and black) on bracelets. They were heavy but not 300plus. There’s no way that the 5kx watch head alone on that strap could weigh 300 plus. Full bracelet tritons with sapphire crystal don’t weight that much. Like I said I like heavier watches just questioning the Seiko website has a typo.
This coating shouldn't be easy to scratch. Obviously some are better than others. I do plan on getting this watch but it won't be a daily, well I don't really have a daily anyway.
Thank you for sharing your video and it’s informative. But mine, the Seiko logo is not painted but it’s raised, and instead of Japanese days, it has Spanish days instead. I love my all black Seiko.
Finally got one in DEC. hands a little hard to see "for me" Lum sucks "for my eyes" but not bad when under nvg's I do a 20 count wind in the AM have had no loss of time yet. Love the watch . And the woman that gave it to me.

I like the black case and the black bezel. Not the bezel insert, hands, dial, or lack of screw down crown. I kinda need that dial to say divers 200 m too. I know that’s not what this watch is supposed to be. Good review though, better than seeing a modded skx.
hey buddy, i m thinkin a pickin up this watch. i thought automatics did nt need winding ? i know they do if they ve been left alone , but is the only time you need to wind them when you have nt been wearing it ? also if it has stopped just wearing it should make it work ? no ? kind regards ian.
another fantastic review mr j. not my cup of tea but it is only my opinion. I think that mineral crystals get an unfair rap sometimes. My 17 yo ecodrive has one and it is still in fantastic shape but I have always removed it before doing anything really rough. My guess is that Seiko hardlex is just as good.
douglasmichel1000 Thanks for your support and thoughts! I think for a 335$ msrp watch they should have sapphire crystal on it in my opinion. A number of my watches have mineral crystal too and haven’t had any problems with them.

Nevin Sood Now I see what you’re saying, sorry about that! No, I don’t dive at all but for some reason I feel like 200m is always a little safer! 😁 More peace of mind maybe...
Cool review! I've just bought the green (hulk) version. I'm Not a massive fan of the blacked out version if I'm honest they do look very cool but I think that the legibility issues would spoil it for me, as for the comparisons with the skx, I think we should look past that it's Not an skx & isn't marketed as one they certainly have made some upgrades to the design & features but lost some of the water resistance of the skx but let's be honest 100mtr is plenty if you spill your bottle of evian on it while sitting at your desk it'll be fine! 🤣 so if people want an ISO certified skx then buy one there's still plenty out there....😊 but I'll rant a bit more about that when I do my review of the green one. Side note, I've just hit that sub button, some great content on your channel man.
Would this watch go well with a silicone rubber watch strap as I too do not like the raised aspect. Kinda new to watches and I don't know if there is a rule of thumb when it comes to switching straps, also is it possible to switch straps on every single watch?
Hello Arthur, not a problem, I happy to try and answer your questions. I am no expert, but yes typically you can change straps on any watch unless it has an integrated bracelet. This Seiko no doubt could be paired with a silicone strap as long as the lug width matched.
J. City Reviews - Damn you reply fast I respect that haha... I’ll have to find a website that sells some good silicone straps in the colour black of course which hopefully fits the lug width. Thanks a lot man!
