Love the dial and design of these, I just wish they'd improved on the SKX instead of downgrading the dive aspects and only really modernising the movement.
I'm the opposite, never really like the skx until they turned it into dressKX, fully blacked-out version of that watch is one of my favorite timepieces at this point.
This seiko 5 series is clearly better than the old SKX. Movement is better, that's what matters. That it is not a real diver who cares, I would like to know how many with SKX (overpriced and with ridiculous movement) dive in the water.
It looks great and I get that they are responding to what the market uses the watches for, fashion, but some of us do dive and/or work in harsh environments. If Casio can do 200m for what they ask for an MDV-106, Seiko can surely do it at three or four times the cost. It’s ok I guess if its not a priority but it comes across as value engineering.
Awesome watch. As for screw-down crowns, I don't dive but I prefer a screw-down crown as an extra measure to keep moisture out of the watch over very long periods of time. Whether that's realistic considering all the other things that could go wrong, I can't say but that's my train of thought.
Thank you for sharing your video and it’s informative. But mine, the Seiko logo is not painted but it’s raised, and instead of Japanese days, it has Spanish/English days instead. I love my all black Seiko.
Thanks for the review. I just ordered the Barton silicon strap for mine. The lume is poor, but the bright surrounds around the hour markers & hands mean its actually pretty easy to read the time in most lights apart from pitch black darkness. I love mine to bits, can't wait for that strap to arrive😎
Ordered one to. Does the slider quick release "ball" shows between the strap and case when you put on your watch?. Does it rub against it?. Are the spring bars diameter smaller than the original Seiko ?
I returned that exact model as soon as I got it. For some reason, it felt cheap to me. Didn't like the bezel action, or the winding of the crown. Case felt light too which added to the cheapness. Other than that, it looks good and it's definitely the best looking out of the lineup.
I feel like when the black does eventually wear off and show bare metal it will take on a different, gnarly but cool look befitting of a field/dive/ tool watch.
Hi Rob! Have a question: is it possible to use a skx case from CT with a crown and install the srpd movement, dial, bezel, etc. in order to use the screwdown crown feature that skx offers? Has anybody done this?

Yes it is darker. And Raven still has a lot of white on the indices and bezel. IMO the seiko looks better. But hey, if you really want a diver this isn't one. But if it is the look of a diver you want, go for it - it is an awesome watch!
That's exactly what I was thinking (I also have some reservations on the 42mm). I always wanted a blacked out watch but I'm a lume junkie/blindish.... It looks super though. Which strap was that, I didn't catch the name?

This is on my list of objects of desire. I work in the entertainment industry and wear black like 100% of the time. This is gonna look good.
An all black watch is a thought that comes and goes but I've never pulled the trigger.

The SUN in red looks awesome on the black day of the week dial. Solid clicking while turning the bezel. My favorite 5kx of my modest collection.

felt the same. was wanting one and finally found it online but it felt like a toy despite looking unique. The lume was a pleasant surprise though

100 meters 330 feet pretty deep you could dive with this watch no problems how deep do you dive?
It’s the only one I wanted to look at out of the new range of 5’s, had it on wrist but couldn’t justify the cost.

Yeah ray raven is more of a black gunmetal like some of the seiko turtles and samurais

Ghost style works. Some mods or NTH models have mostly stealth then a bright white outline of markers and hands that glow
