The way this track oh-so-subtly shifts from a rolling three-quarters into a very slow syncope two-beat about halfway and then slips back to the three-quarters without missing a hitch.

Very smart arrangement. I love how you added bits of JENOVA and Mako Reactor to the main backbone of Listen to the Cries of the Planet, which is one of the underrated FF7 tracks btw. Very calm and soothing too.

Well 9 was a true one in the sense that it honestly combined the best of every era of Final Fantasy up to that point (1-3, 4-6, 7-8) and made a great old school feeling FF game with at-the-time modern elements

I remember hearing the old "Cries of the Planet" theme while trekking through the forgotten city in FFVII. It had an uneasy feeling, creeping me out like there was something horrible about to happen in this strange, abandoned location. Sure enough, something horrible did happen! That's good composing!

true that, they have tweaked with it so much, but in a way, the tweaking is what made FF so good, From FF1 to FF7, there had been huge changes in each game, but i also agree that they have gone in the wrong direction for some of the newer tweaks.

you could try 'cthulhu saves the world' and 'breath of death vii' on steam. they a damn cheap (currently ~$2) oldschool j-rpgs. not as serious as ff and only 6-10hours long but not bad.

You really should...it was the last true Final Fantasy if you ask me. After VII they started to tweak the formula too much. What I wouldn't give for a good turn based RPG these days...
