I finished House of Roots and Ruin last night and the second half gave me whiplash. There was so much going on and I was constantly surprised by it. Loved it! I agree that it is more disturbing than the first book while the first book was more creepy and scary. I hope we don't have to wait too long for the next book!

I love Erin A. Craig! I'm currently reading an arc of The Unmaking of June Farrow, and Adrienne Young writes eerie in a smalltown way that keeps reminding me of Small Favors. You should definitely check it out! I'm loving it so far.

I am totally a wimp when it comes to horror so House of Roots and Ruin does sound like my kind of horror lol I also have the first book I still want to read so maybe now it is time.

At first when you were taking about The sword defiant I immediately think about Frieren ( the manga….I don’t know if you know it already). But it seems like that the book is more serious in tone than Frieren.
I just want to let you know I read Small Favors on your recommendation. I enjoyed it. ill continue to follow your recommendations.

“The Sword Defiant” cover looks an *awful* lot like the art of Jezrien leaving his honorblade from the “Way of Kings” leatherbound. Like I’m not in a position to assert it was traced, but it sure looks traced.
I was very disappointed with The Sword Defiant…This book seems like it was written because he is contracted to put a book out and so he needed to put a book out…This is not what this BookTuber says it is…This BookTuber says it’s this author’s homage to traditional fantasy…That’s putting a very very generous spin on this book and the motives behind writing it…It’s also a bit disingenuous on this BookTuber’s part to try and frame it in this way…
I liked this author’s first trilogy…It was creative, original and had memorable characters…This book has zero creativity stealing a bunch of old tropes and building a traditional fantasy story around them…It strikes me as laziness it is just a safe book to put out to fill a contractual obligation…I had hopes for this author but this book and the series seems like a giant step backwards and makes me lukewarm on this author going forward…That being said a gave it a fair 3 ⭐️ rating because it’s a satisfactory classic fantasy story in which classic fantasy fans I am sure will enjoy…
