- This morning walk we take you around downtown Billings MT on a quiet summer morning. The pandemic means the streets are quiet but it's still beautiful and vibrant. We start our walk near the Dude Rancher Lodge and the Lincoln Center, an old high school now used for adminstration. We walk up past the Billings Public library and make our way to the edge of Billings Medical center before heading down to the First Interstate Bank building. We then loop around to downtown to see my favorite restaurant, The Sassy Biscuit, and the covered intersection of 2nd Ave and North Broadway where the Babcock theater is hosting Save Ferris and past the Rock Creek Coffee Roasters. We then go down to the Northern Hotel and over to the Double Tree by Hilton hotel and then north past the Burger Dive and a couple other bars and restaurants. Thanks for joining us!

Billings is the largest city in the U.S. state of Montana, with a population estimated at 109,577 as of 2019. Located in the south-central portion of the state, it is the seat of Yellowstone County and the principal city of the Billings Metropolitan Area, which had an estimated population of 180,385 in 2018. It has a trade area of over 500,000.
Billings was nicknamed the "Magic City" because of its rapid growth from its founding as a railroad town in March 1882. With one of the largest trade areas in the United States, Billings is the trade and distribution center for much of Montana east of the Continental Divide, Northern Wyoming, and western portions of North Dakota and South Dakota. Billings is also the largest retail destination for much of the same area.
The city is experiencing rapid growth and a strong economy; it has had and is continuing to have the largest growth of any city in Montana. Parts of the metro area are seeing hyper growth. From 2000 to 2010 Lockwood, an eastern suburb, saw growth of 57.8%, the largest growth rate of any community in Montana.[9] Billings has avoided the economic downturn that affected most of the nation from 2008 to 2012 as well as the housing bust. With more hotel accommodations than any area within a five-state region, the city hosts a variety of conventions, concerts, sporting events, and other rallies. With the Bakken oil development in eastern Montana and western North Dakota, the largest oil discovery in U.S. history, as well as the Heath shale oil discovery just north of Billings, the city's growth rate stayed high during the shale oil boom. Although the city is growing, its growth rate has diminished markedly with oil price declines in recent years.
Area attractions include Pompey's Pillar, Pictograph Cave, Chief Plenty Coups State Park, Zoo Montana, and Yellowstone Art Museum. Within 100 miles are Little Bighorn Battlefield National Monument, Bighorn Canyon National Recreation Area, Red Lodge Mountain Resort, and the Beartooth Highway, which links Red Lodge to Yellowstone National Park.

What a nice surprise! I grew up in Billings. (on the south side, no less!) But that was 50 yrs ago. I am a fan of your videos. I live in rural Nevada now, a very small town where services are few, but there is lots of quietness.

Terrific walk thank you. Very much wanting to go to Billings. Looks lush and green for the hot months. We are just out of Summer into Autumn here in Australia and everything is brown and dry. Love your beautiful Country, will certainly be revisiting in the next year.
It’s green for about a month in the spring otherwise it’s pretty dry. It’s on the high plaines and is naturally sage brushe steppe. Still a fun town to stop by and explore. Lots of good western history as well. -H

Billings is now (May 2024) about 120,000 people with a metro of around 190,000. Billings Clinic is indeed in the hospital corridor along with St. Vincent Hospital, or Intermountain Health as they are now calling it. They are the two major hospitals in Billings, along with various other cancer centers, clinics, etc. Billings Clinic has satellites throughout Montana and northern Wyoming.
First Interstate Bank is actually headquartered in Billings, not South Dakota. Billings is also the headquarters of KOA Campgrounds.
Babcock Theater is one of the oldest theaters in Billings (built in 1907) and it is primarily a special run movie theater (not a music venue).
The overhead structure downtown (Broadway and 2nd Ave North) is called Skypoint and was built in 2002. The smaller sails can move to let in sunlight or cover the intersection when it rains.

i was up in billings in 2014 i absolutely loved it ever since i came back down south i miss it its not the best city but its very pretty city go up to the rims or rems however you spell it yeah thats a amazing view

Hey, I was in Billings last year for the first time for a TBEX conference. Loved having more dining/shopping options than here in Flathead County Montana, but it wasn't nearly as beautiful there. Some great breweries though and rappelling the rim rocks was fun!

I most definitely have got to see more of Montana through your eyes than I ever thought. thanks for showing this. And I often think people would get upset about the filming but I find the same thing most are ok with it.

Interesting history on Billings, the railroad and how it came to be. It’s nice to learn this stuff about places we live and visit. Vertical axis stabilizer🤔 looks stable, I’ll have to look into that 😊

Pretty unique urban area in the rarist of places just get a light rail system in there and it would really be unique
