Last August we bought the City Pass for 160 Euro for 5 days per person - that's 32 Euro per day. It includes entrance fees and all Strömma busses, ferries to the archipelago, Vaxholm, Drottningholm and many more. So we just had to pay for food and drinks over the day. In total each day cost around 75 Euro, excluding the hotel and Marabou for the family and friends. ☺️
That's a good deal if you make use of those options! I personally find that passes like that never match up with what I want to do - but it's certainly a convenient way to get access to everything. Except Marabou :D
Ahlgrens Bilar is a perfect souvenir gift. Our granddaughters always ask if we have brought some bags when we come and visit them in Chicago. Anything tasting like tooth paste or cough mixture is for Swedes only.

There's definitely a lot of people living on a lot less than that, and you can get by very cheaply if you want to. The biggest cost in that case is the rent, so it depends on where you live and how big of a flat / room you have. Hard to say what a standard rent is since it varies so much.

I try to only comment on one thing mentioned for once ^^ the licorice 😁 somehow, all the Swedes I know (irl or „parasocially“ via RUclips) seem to be at least somewhat obsessed with it 😄 In my dialect, we call it „Bäredreck“ which translates to bear-dirt/poo 😂 and as taste is so subjective and as we say „you can’t argue about taste“ I hope that no one will hate me for thinking that our word for it is accurate af 🤣😇 Ok, one tiny other thing - I‘ll actively try to use some Swedish idioms/saying (from another of your great videos) and love to see ppl‘s reactions to them ☺️ some we actually share anyways, but my favs that I could actually use so far were the blue cupboard & the cow on the ice ones 😁 Have a great day/night and hopefully a lovely beer or wine 🍻🥂
I just love that word for licorice! I hate the stuff myself, so I'd happily call it bear droppings in Swedish too. "Björnbajs" maybe? Or "Björnskit". I should try to introduce it :D But that's a really fun idea! Try to use those idioms, and I'm sure you'll get a mix of confused looks, and happy smiles (depending if they recognize it or not) :D Cheers, and hope you have a great one too!
Hmm... I was wondering is there stil so called "tourist pass" what you can use to public transportation and go to different museums? I remember as i was kid, we bought those and we could use all the SL busses, local trains and tunnelbana as much as we wanted for a day. That were propably late 80´s or early 90´s. It wasn´t very expencive. Of course you couldn´t get all the museums and places with that. We had to pay for visiting the kings castle seperatly.
I think there's still a pass - but I honestly don't like them all that much myself. I never want to go to every place that's included in the pass, and I want to see other things that's not included, so it's never a good deal for me personally at least

Thank you! Stockholm is a bit higher than average in Sweden, but I think the average salary is a bit less than 30 000 SEK per month netto. There's definitely a lot of people living on a lot less than that, and you can get by very cheaply if you want to. The biggest cost in that case is the rent, so it depends on where you live and how big of a flat / room you have. Hard to say what a standard rent is since it varies so much.
@@ThreeStarVagabond Yes, rent is the biggest problem everywhere. But could you live for a 30000 sek normally with rent included? Will it be enough?
@@Oleksandrovych Yeah absolutely, that'd be reasonably comfortable at least. But it'd require living a bit further out, not splurging on long vacations etc.
@@ThreeStarVagabond Yeah, sure, got it. And what is the average rent for a 1 bedroom in Stockholm?
@@Oleksandrovych It can range from a few thousand if it's in the outskirts and you're just renting a room in another place, to maybe 10-15k if you want to be in the city center.
I really hope that I‘ll be able to finally make it to Sweden soon - thanks a lot for all of those great Tipps!
I try to only comment on one thing mentioned for once ^^ the licorice 😁 somehow, all the Swedes I know (irl or „parasocially“ via RUclips) seem to be at least somewhat obsessed with it 😄
In my dialect, we call it „Bäredreck“ which translates to bear-dirt/poo 😂 and as taste is so subjective and as we say „you can’t argue about taste“ I hope that no one will hate me for thinking that our word for it is accurate af 🤣😇
Ok, one tiny other thing - I‘ll actively try to use some Swedish idioms/saying (from another of your great videos) and love to see ppl‘s reactions to them ☺️ some we actually share anyways, but my favs that I could actually use so far were the blue cupboard & the cow on the ice ones 😁
Have a great day/night and hopefully a lovely beer or wine 🍻🥂
I just love that word for licorice! I hate the stuff myself, so I'd happily call it bear droppings in Swedish too. "Björnbajs" maybe? Or "Björnskit". I should try to introduce it :D
But that's a really fun idea! Try to use those idioms, and I'm sure you'll get a mix of confused looks, and happy smiles (depending if they recognize it or not) :D Cheers, and hope you have a great one too!
I wish we could be "after inflation"! 😭😭 Feels like things just keep getting pricier and pricier every month!
Yeah I read yesterday that September had another record price hike at the grocery stores. Grrr!
@@ThreeStarVagabond Sure. We propably didn´t visit all those places and payd extra to see the kings castle.
Fsmiliar places on the video like T-Central and Drottninggatan. Been there many times. First time i tried Burger King i did it at T-Central. Not my favourite burgers.
@@ArchieArpeggio Fair enough, and nice to hear that it worked out well for you! And haha, I'm sure BK isn't most people's favorite burger. But I have to admit that I prefer it over McD at least
@@ThreeStarVagabond I don´t like the taste of the beef in BK. McD has small patties and Finnish Hesburger has so thin patties that there isn´t much of meat at all.
I used to make much better burgers at home when i still eated carbs. Way better that i have ever eaten in any "better" restaurant. I usually cook when i drink with one of my friend and he said that he hadn´t eaten as good burger ever. So not just my own opinnion 😄.
But he always love my cookings no matter what i make. Usually he watches wtf am i doing. He always says that the sauces i make are incredible. I have also made some food addictions for him and my recipes move forward 😁.
Sometimes he has made some for his other friends and they ask from him how did he discoverd such an ideas.
An ABBA LP and a tub of Snus!
That's...probably completely accurate! :D
I gave järnpojken a friendship bracelet when I came for the Taylor Swift concert in May. 😍😁
I didn't see the bracelet there... I bet some bloody tourist stole it! ^_^
You get a weekend ticket to Comic Con Stockholm Winter 2024, thats what you get! 😎
That's the most important thing! :D
Entertaining video, but I am not sure if the kebab pizza is really a swedish innovation, probably invented in Sweden by immigrants from the middle east (not accepted anywhere else). But who cares, it´s really tasty sometimes. You forgot to tell about "Dagens Lunch" that often gives you a sallad + a main dish + fika for around 120-140 Krona.
Oh it definitely is - kebab pizza was invented in the 1980s over here. But yeah, I actually had a hard time deciding what "special prices" to include and not. Lunch would absolutely have been a good thing to mention, but many come here over the weekend and - well - no lunch prices on Sat / Sun. Likewise with happy hour for beer etc. Anyway, cheers!
that is why I want to save up so I could come visit the land of my ancestors..............Whats so wrong about the savory white icing on a cinnamon roll :P?
Haha, Swedes and icing are natural enemies when it comes to cinnamon buns :D
@@ThreeStarVagabond I mean I am half swede XD, I let that out of the bag, but love the a good Cinnabon cinnamon roll, even momma loves them
@@CplOddballof8thCT so u "half Swedish" without ever been in Sweden and speak Swedish or have a Swedish passport?
Interesting ..well then im half norwegian danish german and probably english too and further back a citizen in the roman empire . =)

If someone wanna explore the city with me Im down it's boring exploring it alone lol😅😅
Money goes farther in stockholm, compared to the US.
I guess it does, at least compared to touristy places in the US. Stockholm isn't really all that expensive these days.
@@ThreeStarVagabond packing bags ready to move
Skip the bags, just buy new stuff here. It's so cheap for an American.
@@ThreeStarVagabond that's what the wife says, sell the old stuff
Swedes are poor, thats why. Not Ghana levels poor but much poorer than US, Norway, Switzerland, Germany, Denmark and so on.
People seriously ask if they can use US dollars in Sweden???? Please fellow Americans, get it together! 🙄
Not many! But yeah unfortunately there are some online. It might be people who've never been abroad before, so I try to be patient ^_^
I wasn't aware that the abomination that is the kebab pizza was invented in Sweden. It explains why in several smaller Swedish towns I've visited they're literally in every restaurant/takeaway place I've found, usually with, to me at least, non-sensical names that don't describe the makeup. Thank you for solving this mystery for me.😄
Haha, it definitely is, and it's by far the most popular pizza in all of Sweden these days. I got a bit intrigued by the kebab pizza so I actually started to do some research about Swedish pizza in general... Might be a video about that coming up later this year!
I miss Stockholm. A lot. Vaxholm by SL is a great way to save money but tourists should know (after my exhaustive information digging this summer) the hours are limited and for tourists, rather than local commuters, are work friendly not tourist friendly.
Ooh, yeah that's a good point. Better plan ahead for a visit to Vaxholm. But then again, in worst case there's always the possibility to jump on a more expensive boat as well.
@@ThreeStarVagabond or bus one way with SL and Waxholmsbolaget on way back. We were going to do that but thought we'd take an economic hit as the day was one of those stunning Stockholm summer days and wanted to be on the water as much as possible.
Absolutely worth it in my view! Those sunny days are perfect for going on a boat :D
Am in Stockholm at the moment, what a beautiful day & beautiful city! Took tram 42kr to Historiskamuseet (ticket 140kr), walked to have kottbular in ‘original’ Ikea in Galerien (75kr incl. drink), then walked to a very impressive Gamla Stan! 🫢
Found McD here is much cheaper than Copenhagen - Happy Meal only 45kr (burger, chips, fresh cut apple and fruit juice) 👍😀
So happy to hear that! I'm biased towards Stockholm myself, but I do like it. And yeah, it can actually be surprisingly affordable! Especially IKEA food and McD. IKEA is ridiculously cheap actually - hard to beat that price elsewhere.
@@ThreeStarVagabond What I found relatively expensive are the souvenirs. And they are made in China 🤭. I’m going on a tour to Uppsala tomorrow, hopefully it will be another beautiful day and trip 🤞
Oh yes! Souvenirs are purely aimed at tourists, so they hike up the prices ridiculously. Especially in Gamla stan / Drottninggatan. You'll see a lot less of that in Uppsala!
@@syantique9633Why not jump on a cruise to Finland too, they are cheaper during the weekdays.
@@R-G I’ll spend only 3 nights in Stockholm in this trip, Finland will be my next trip in summer next year. Got a good deal with Finnair. Maybe come back to Stockholm by cruise from Finland next year as you suggested 🤭? As I really like this city 👍
