  • Bishop James Conley of the Catholic Diocese of Lincoln has released a pastoral letter on mental health titled "A Future With Hope."
In this conversation with Diocese of Lincoln Director of Communications Dennis Kellogg, Bishop Conley shares his personal mental health journey, which includes struggles with PTSD, anxiety and depression while serving in his role as bishop. He also offers pastoral reflections on “seeking wholeness and holiness,” and the Catholic context for mental health. Bishop Conley said he hopes sharing his journey and the important role his faith has played in it will provide hope for others on their own journey.

Thank you so much - I can't wait to listen to this. As someone who has had others struggle with mental health in my life, seeing our clergy be open and honest about this subject is massively appreciated, and I'm sure it is utterly motivated by the Holy Spirit. God bless you and God bless this holy diocese!

Thank you so much, Bishop Connelly. You indeed offer hope and much wisdom. Being vulnerable like this is a good example for those of us who want to keep a protective shell around us. “Just show up.” Words to remember.

Excellent interview. However, not everyone has this type of support to take off from work and family responsibilities for six months to seek treatment. 🙏🏻💗🙏🏻
