From what I gather from the lyrics is its was all about the emotional state of Matt (the signer) about A7X after the death of the Rev (their first drummer and best friend). So overall, why going back to the grind and endure a dream you can't enjoy no more? Yes everyone is looking at you while you're on the stage, but is there a given understanding of the discomfort felt with the awkwardness of the situation of watching someone suffer loss? Just my interpretation, but this song is probably my favorite from them. I know you reacted lately to MIA, but you should check out Save Me or Strength of the World if you liked the progressive/dynamic aspect of this band Cheers guys!

This style A7X used in Buried Alive is very similar to Led Zeppelin's Stairway to Heaven and Metallica's One with two different choruses with different tempos. There haven't been many songs that do 2 or more choruses well, but Buried Alive is one of them. Hence why some refer to this song as Avenged Sevenfold's version of Stairway.
Ive always viewed this as a warning against the regulations of evil/sin... and the end piece is the devil telling you what your sins/evils have earned you

Plus I was pretty depressed for a while and I oddly found music to be just noisy and distracting... I didn't want anything to do with anything fun during that phase.

Also try a different artist called The Agonist, they are certainly lesser know compared to avenged sevenfold but they have a ton of great songs. Especially from the album "Lullabies of the Dormant Mind".
I think the meaning is: The beginning of the song someone died and is stuck in purgatory. They think they are going to heaven but then they realize they're going to hell " knocking at the wrong gate"
Yes lead singer is M Shadows. Not unlike two of my other favorite bands Thrice n AFI . along with the vocals, tempo, arrangement of music these 3 bands sound like 3-4 different grps based upon which albums you are listening to. I love me some Megadeth but you AlwayS know it's Dave Mustaine vocally n doesn't change much.
Please try out their "MIA". I feel like the song is dedicated to veterans and how they feel after a war. And try out their "Danger Line". It is dedicated to soldiers who cannot come back from war.
