  • Because I have larger calibers and cartridges for Medium sized game at extended distance, I have tried to find a good fit for my usage. I think I found it. Now just need to settle on the best loads.

    Hey Dave, I just watched your latest 6ARC video. I myself have been working on my varmint load. At this point I'm where I want to be. But I've built my load with the new Hornady, 80gr ELD VT. Gas gun, 22in 1-8 custom barrel, 30.7 gr8 of Leverevolution, or 29.9 gr of Varget,,, 3000fps avg., 200 zero. 2.255coal, for my barrel lands. This 80 VT was built for these new style calibers from what I was told talking with Hornady tech. Coyote is my main purpose for this gun. The VMax is a shorter bullet and sets different because of its o give, on the bullet. This new bullet is definitely worth trying. Thanks for all the work you do, its helped me a lot

    I have a 6x45 mm and a 243 Win rifle that just absolutely love the 75 gr V-Max. I'm not shooting past 200 yds, so no big deal. I'll look a little deeper at the 6mm ARC, but just might stick with the 6x45 mm. Good luck and stay safe!!! 😉😉😉

    I have become a fan of the 6mmARC; it’s just such an efficient, accurate cartridge, at least in my experience. I’ve settled on a 90 gr. ELD-X bullet with 30.5 gr. of LeverEvolution powder as my go-to load, but I plan on finding a good load for a 100 gr. bullet as well. As of yet, my ARC has only been used on paper and steel out to 400 yards, but I hope to eventually use it for coyote hunting and possibly for pronghorn.
    Thanks for sharing your findings.

    In my opinion, which is worth exactly what you're paying for it, Hornady overplayed the horsepower on this cartridge. Optimally this cartridge is a 95 grain and under pill slinger. Don't get me wrong I really like the cartridge. I have a couple rifles in it. My favorite slug for this is the berger 95 grain vld. I think it's a great compromise between weight and velocity.

    • @davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009
      @davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009  3 месяца назад +1

      I agree completely. Hornady did load this rifle cartridge to meet Dept. of Defense parameters with the 100+ grain loads. If interested in shooting long range, then these higher BC, low drag bullet weights work very well indeed.

    I agree with the 6 ARC and using the lighter bullets, especially inside of 600 yards and lighter wind. Mine is a tack driver with the 90gr Bergers, 1.5" and better at 300 yards. Easy on the brass too. 👍

    With the old rule that you should have at lease 1,000 fpe to take a deer, it is amazing your charts have both 75 and 80 grain loads just under that mark at 300 yards. Definitely makes for a good varmint rifle. Even if you don't get footage this week, would love to hear how you did and maybe see some still photos.

    I really like the 87 vmax, .4 g1 bc and capable of 2900 fps out of an 18 inch gas gun. I would imagine a 90 eldx would be incredibly capable loaded to the same.

    I've tried to talk myself into 6mm ARC half a dozen times. I've already got 6.5 grendel and 224 Valkyrie... and.243 bolt action. It just doesn't seem to give me anything I don't have covered. It's like a solution to a problem I don't have.

    Does that second group show the shooter error, or how inconsistent the load is? Do you need more shots to prove that? Is two three shot groups enough to prove anything?

    • @mikecollins8241
      @mikecollins8241 3 месяца назад

      IMO 2 groups isn't enough to say a load is "good" but is enough to say/ show it isn't ;)
      Groups that start large won't get smaller, no matter how many rounds you fire :)

      In this case as stated, the Sierra Blitz is my favorite load which does suggest I have shot them before this video. Some say a person needs to shoot a 20 shot group to find a true "Cone of accuracy" of a particular load. For me as a hunter I never have had the opportunity to test "Groups" on any one animal. But you are correct on shooting multiple groups, if you are only interested in Match or Competition shooting.

    I am considering getting another AR-15 upper, for hunting deer ( ie does for the freezer)... I'm torn between the 6mm ARC and the 6.5 grendal... I'd need dies either way, but i already have a decent selection of .243 caliber bullets... Dave/ anyone have thoughts/ experience?

    • @davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009
      @davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009  3 месяца назад +1

      The numbers between the ARC and Grendel are close. Because of the heavier for cartridge (120gn.) bullet capacity for the Grendel, it is a good choice for ranges under 250yds. The ARC extends that range by 100+ yards. I have used both on deer and varmints. Both get the job done well.

      @@davestrohmeyer-saddleupsho8009 Thanks! I already have the .243 bullets and the ability to use the 6 ARC for long range (target) shooting is also appealing, just wanted to be sure it'd work on deer (I know, shot placement & proper bullet choice are key)
