Sometimes I feel Dean Winchester is the biggest tragedy I've ever seen...
Then I remember Sam.And it forces me to rethink that...
Then Cas,then Crowley,then Rowena,then Gavin,then Lucifer,Then Amara,then Bobby,then John,then Mary,then Ellen n Jo,then Charlie,then Kevin,then Linda Tran,then Gadreel,then Meg,then Jody,then Claire,then Alex,then Lilly Sunder,then Frank Deveraux,the Kate,then that girl in Red Meat who's husband turned into a werewolf n killed a few people then died,and of course noone can forget ADAM...................OK now I think I'm a masochist for loving this show!

During the earlier seasons he didn't drink as much ,but after he came back from hell, dying, and dealing with Sam it just got so bad and then it has eased up during the last two seasons I do believe his drinking needs to be addressed on the show everything else has that should be one of them

7 and 5 was worst drinking I think
his drinking was also probably influenced by his age in the first few seasons hes only been legal for at most 5 years (yes i know he had his first drink before double digits and that he could forge fake ids) but you need to look old enough first cause no bartender will buy that you are 21 if you look 14.so maybe hes had the ability to buy liquor for 8 years hes got to sneak it buy john (who will most likely notice the signs that dean is drinking) and he needs to develop the need for it.yes he has felt the weight of the world for most of his life but that didn't come to a head with dean needing a crutch until he lost sammy and faced hell ( after this my headcanon is that he started to rely on alcohol to keep up with the emotional punches) and once he started he couldn't stop he would slow not drinking for the nines but still drinking (to the point it's basically water now.
1:10 when Sam's passively watching Dean doing all those shots physically pains me.
And 2:34 when he almost drinks again and stops himself. He looks so upset. So resigned.
I always believed that Dean was an alcoholic. It even reflects in the episode "what is and what should never be" even if Mary didn't die and they weren't hunters Dean would still be a heavy drinker because he doesn't deal with his pain or his emotions. He drowns them in booze. If the show ends before they really delve into Deans relationship to alcohol rather then just address it off handedly without exploring it like they've done In the past, then I will be slightly disappointed.
for some people, alcohol is more like a friend than a problem.
Most things dean struggles with gets barley any focus just little bits here and there because sam is the main focus as his first on the list.
It sucks Dean is such an amazing character and jensen plays him so damn well it draws you in, wish like you more focus would be put in to his drinking habits and also his clear depression.
Both are big problems in the world and wish the show would stop ignoring it as much as they seem to.

This is really good! Depressing, but good. I've always felt that it's a shame Dean's relationship with alcohol hasn't been properly addressed on the show, so it's always nice to see it reflected in fanworks.

Thank you, I appreciate it. Yes, I totally agree, I really wish they would have addressed it more. Although, I do appreciate that it hasn't been forgotten. The number of clips I had to choose from were ridiculous and consistent through the seasons. Especially (sob) all the seasons after Dean returns from hell.
But at least the drinking has gotten slightly better after season 10, hasn't it? I mean, 12x06 was the first time Dean drank hard alcohol in season 12... Which is an improvement, since there were times when we'd see him drinking the hard stuff every episode.
Definitely dramatically reduced after season 10.
LD I think alcohol is like an under story because no one in the show really realises in the show

I'm new to Supernatural and I tend to gravitate to Dean because I relate more with him. Feeling empty and dead inside and clinging to anything that makes me feel better. Alcohol is one of my major ones. Thank you for making this. It's therapeutic.

Yeah I wish the writers would just give Dean a bit of a break. But knowing the spn writer's they will just keep slaming Dean with stuff that will make are list of what gets us emotional about Dean Windchester grow.
All hunters drink. It's their tragic life. Alcohol is hunters little helper... Dean once said that in a scene... "we're out of hunters (little) helper"
This hurt me really bad. every time he decides to drink off his sorrow with alcohol, I feel so angry & sad. watching him like that just ... feels like hell. I wonder why never we could see someone tell him stop that or distract him & make him feel better? I don't believe he's alcoholic. he's not. I'm sure he prefers pie but there is no one there for him :(
He's definitely an alcoholic.
He uses alcohol to cope. That's alcoholism.
I really wish it was adressed in the show. (But haven't seen the last three seasons yet)

If anyone went through the things Dean has, all the weight on his shoulders, having to fix his brother's messes and save the kid, and the never ending disappointments the people around him and the universe dishes out to him, all the PTSD, all the loss, all the pain, the never ending battle to save people and have nothing to show for it except the world keeps turning.
DEAN IS TIRED! HE WANTS TO DIE! HE DOESN'T SEE A WAY OUT!
He has said all of these things. So his dependency on alcohol is understandable. It does not affect his ability to hunt, he is not an abusive drunk. He still does his duty with the single-minded drive that he's always possessed.
So let's not act like Dean has to rise above it and meet our expectations. Not when you don't hold the other characters to high standards and allow them to continue to fuck up and fuck up some more. Dean is fine, his drinking problem isn't the problem, it's the depression.

I'm currently struggling with alcoholism because of losing family and PTSD of being a first responder and dean winchester the one character i can relate to so much than i can believe or think I'm only 23 and I have seen a lot of messed up stuff in my life and I'm doing everything I can to stop

Dean even makes drinking look good.
A lot of people (including Jensen Ackles) were kind of expecting or hoping that Dean's alcoholism would be dealt with as (even a minor) plot point at some point but honestly I see it as more fitting this way; as the brunt of a joke. It's never truly dealt with but honestly for all those many out there who relate to him, tell me is it really taken seriously or is it a joke with a passing judgement tacked on? It's not just those around him either Dean himself, drinks to escape terror and depression but then acts like it's a fun joke and would surely refuse to hear any other side of it. It will always be a joke because it would just be too hard to deal with anything else and honestly as long you're not shooting heroin society will see it as fun and games and we the users will perpetuate that.
So honestly I am glad it was never addressed because it makes it more real than addressing it ever could have.
This hit home SO FCKN HARD!!! I teared up as I watched the whole video. Several times. The shit people so many people go through. It's a Miracle alcohol is as far as they go. Myself included. I've always related to Dean's character so much

Stevie I was this video I was Dean and that's all I did. You don't know how much it meant running across this. Makes me me reminding of myself why oh why I did that and brings happiness but much anger so thank u bro!!
The part when Bobby looked at dean as he was taking a drink that was the same way my dad looked at me when he seen me drinking he was like son how many have you had I said a lot but I’m gonna keep drinking and he just couldn’t say or do anymore because he knows. Anyways I was in the army and had some fucked up experiences and I struggle with drinking and I have been even before joining the military and I’m 25 years old and Dean Winchester is the only character I can relate with because we both had messed up upbringings and had to raise our little brother but the difference is that my little brother died four years ago from susep which is sudden death in epilepsy and I blame myself for not being there to help like always was and no matter what anyone tells me I will always pin his death on me Idc even if he was right next to me and I couldn’t do anything but if I tried I wouldn’t have this self hate for myself but I do and it’s always gonna be there Dean Winchester is a character that I see as myself so many ways and honestly life sucks so much and when you grow up like we both have pain becomes the only thing that keeps you going and to keep having a reason to go on but great video and I hope it helps people such as myself who struggle with alcohol abuse I’m hoping that nobody ends up like me because i know where the road is heading and I’m fine with it even though it’s not fair for those I got left and for myself but this is my decision my choice to drink because even though this is the answer that is used but it helps me forget and not feel the pain and self hatred I have but stay strong to everyone else you got this and much love

You put more focus in to deans drinking then i think the show has.
They show show him drinking but never really address it everyone knew it was bad but thanks to you're vid people now understand how bad and to be honest i think its about damn time the show focus alittle more on dean and the drinking and depression he clearly suffers with.

Sasa T It's not about being able to take physical pain. Dean has always had the weight of the world on him since he was 4. He protected Sam from a lot of that. It's a coping mechanism.
It is not about physical pain. Sam's soul was 180 years in hell, Dean only for 40 years. Satan tortures Sam after hell. Sam does not drink.
