Gardens are such wonderful places of peace and the manner in which GW is filmed magnifies that peace. A sad journey to be on as a mum, know that a stranger is thinking most kindly of you 🕯

Ina very difficult time of my life, I needed a respite. I discovered BBC Gardner's World on RUclips and watched to calm my mind and soothe my soul.
For years, I wanted to garden and would start container gardens. I would often fail, which would lead to tears because I was always on a shoestring budget for the thing. I just figured I didn't have it in me.
After discovering GW, I started to read Monty's books. I was deeply inspired about the relational aspect in the book, and that it's ok to make mistakes, to learn, and to try again. All of my garden failures suddenly didn't hurt so much, and I had the courage to try again -- with struggling houseplants I found along the way.
I learned how to care for each plant, and then expanded out into new plants as I found another struggle. I then moved and now have a little bit of land (coastal and buried in 20 yrs of sand blown onto the space by the wind), and I've started digging out, finding pathways, garden edging from at least 20 yrs ago. I'm making new paths and spots for rest, watching the light, the water, and building the soil. I'm learning about the place and planning my own garden.
I feel so at peace. And when I don't in the garden, I return to Monty's words in one of his books, or just go and watch a Gardener's world or clip -- and I'm reminded that it's a process, and then, I find peace in it all again.

I love how Monty, in his answers to the questions, kept encouraging the interviewer to be open-minded about something that she had not seen before and apparently had a hard time imagining - American Gardens. I really love this about Monty - that he, without taking away from his own opinion, which we all have, does not forget to point out another very possible perspective about these gardens.

Interesting to have American gardens explained to me as an American. I so admire English gardens and gardeners and the value they place on gardens. I do see a renaissance of gardening here during this pandemic. Lots of people trying to learn and of course i refer them to Gardeners World.

Thank you for posting this video. My husband and I watch gardeners world all the time. I’m a huge gardener and absolutely love the Lurie Gardens, which are right next to my office in downtown Chicago. It’s a stunning garden and miss visiting them. I would recommend them to anyone wanting to see a beautiful example of prairie gardens. I loved watching his dogs garden with him.

I had so much success in planting my sunflowers and growing my garden in my front yard last year. It was beautiful and families would stop and take pictures in my sunflowers. I only have a quarter of a acre but I will fill it with wildflowers and sunflowers and my veggies. My butternuts grew up and trailed the roof of my porch. Who knew Butternut squash could be a beautiful climbing vine 💚 the delicate yellow blooms were beautiful. I can’t wait to get planting and grow all my pole beans on fence panels around my yard.

I live near Chicago. Their motto is "Urbs en horto" or city in a garden. My daughter is a master gardener. On your shows I can smell the fresh basil ,chives , tomatoes, and all the greens. Keep up the great work!

After thinking about Monty going to the Redwood forest and the fact that we really don't have "American gardens", I think a good representation of this would be our National Parks. America is so vast with different climates and ecosystems, it's hard to pick one kind of anything. I think our National Parks with their buildings and landscaping, but mostly breath taking scenery would be the most quintessential American gardens. My own garden is a borrowed mishmash of things from other countries. A purple border like Sissinghurst, a French potager, a naturalistic border like Gravetye, an Italian formal area, an orchard turned wild flower meadow like Monty and Adam. Sometimes, I think the UK forgets that we are cousins and we brought the same ideas here.

Great interview! I learned some more about Monty and Sarah’s gardens. I would love to see the Farm, and hope to purchase his book “My Garden”. Living as I do in Canada, I am not attracted to “American Gardens”. - too large, too ostentatious, I find it quite sad that in The US and Canada, we have destroyed and continue to destroy the natural and then try to re-create it in controlled areas. But now I cant wait for Spring and working outside in the soil!

When she said sad he died I thought no one dies the body closes down as transport for the spirit with is you as you are for ever. As gardeners we must see this daily in progress if you think about it. But a thin curtain must exist around us that we cannot hope to see through or behind.
