CLIP DESCRIPTION:
A young boy wants to shoot Superman (Ben Affleck) to see the bullets bounce off.
FILM DESCRIPTION:
The mysterious and unexpected death of an iconic Hollywood star may be just the tip of an iceberg of scandal in this showbiz drama based on a true story. George Reeves (played by Ben Affleck) was a journeyman actor who had played a small role in Gone With the Wind and appeared onscreen with the likes of James Cagney, Rita Hayworth, and Marlene Dietrich, but his career was not exactly booming when he was cast as comic-book hero Superman in a 1951 B-movie, Superman and the Mole Men. A year later, the producers of the movie launched a syndicated Superman television series with Reeves returning as "The Man of Steel." The show became a major hit, and Reeves was a star at last. However, on June 16, 1959, to the shock of many, Reeves was found dead of a gunshot wound. Police soon declared Reeves' death a suicide and closed the case, but his mother (Lois Smith) refused to believe her son took his own life, and hired Louis Simo (Adrien Brody), a private detective, to find out the truth about her son's passing. Simo found that many Hollywood insiders did not care to cooperate as he researched the Reeves case, but his digging uncovered plenty of evidence suggesting the actor did not take his own life, and he also revealed one of Reeves' deepest secrets -- while he was engaged to marry a pretty young starlet, Leonore Lemmon (Robin Tunney), Reeves was also carrying on an affair with the beautiful Toni Mannix (Diane Lane), the wife of Eddie Mannix (Bob Hoskins), a powerful and ill-tempered executive at MGM. While the producers of Hollywoodland based their story on factual accounts of the investigation into the death of George Reeves, they were denied permission to use the Superman logo and the familiar introduction to the Adventures of Superman television show by the respective copyright holders.

There is no documented proof, but Reeves himself told the story, and he seemed like a pretty honest guy who loved his fans.
I was the kid so yea it happened
No...He was able to get the gun frm the kid. After this incident, George never wore the suit to public appearances again.
Kid: Tell me, do you Bleed?
Superman: ......
Kid: YOU WILL!
When you failed him in life, but you won't fail him in death
Men are still good - BvS Batfleck
Indeed
I can just imagine how that 30 second show would have absolutely blown the minds of these 8 year-olds.
You know I thought George was a bit of a jerk for hating playing Superman, in fact the big reason was more or less for money. However upon watching this scene, real or no I do understand why. When you become a pop culture icon, people at the time expect you to be like your iconic counterpart. Back then Icons meant so much to people that seeing the actor that played Superman smoking and swearing would be a no no. Nowadays we are smarter and know the difference between actor and Icon.
Exactly man.
Smarter? Is not that people back then were dumb, is that his audience was mainly kids. Today adults watch superhero movies just as much as kids, but if a kid heard Chris Evans swearing they would still find it super weird.
If only it was truth. Nowdays, actors have to pretend outside of movies/shows more than ever.
I disagree on the last part. Not too long ago, Kelly Marie Tran was sent death threats just for playing her role.
“Nowadays we’re smarter and know the difference between actor and icon”? Um, no. 😂 You do realise that the person asking to shoot him is a small child right? Little children don’t have the brain capacity to determine what’s real and what isn’t in this context. Superman is real according to their tiny brains, just like Santa Claus. They don’t watch a movie or television show knowing the characters are acting, they think it’s totally real. Grown adults don’t get confused about what’s reality and what isn’t, unless they have some sort of mental illness. An adult wouldn’t want to shoot him with a real gun “to see if the bullet bounces off” unless he A) wanted to kill him or B) had mental illness or developmental problems. As shocking as this may be for you, adults back then also had the ability to tell the difference between actor and idol. I know I know, it’s crazy isn’t it. If you want to point out that people are a lot smarter these days, try not to use a small child to prove your point 🤣
Can’t believe Batman did this
Batman would knock the kid out
@@Fr4ncizco no I don't think so
@@Fr4ncizco xD
he is Batman now
No
Yes
@@FavioRiveros That’s Ben Affleck lmao
Where were this kids parents during this?
I see Bruce Wayne making fun of Superman as a special show for his guests in one of his parties.
A kid with a gun? Oh yes its America.
That will grow up into a school shooter before he hits puberty and actually grow up.
Kid: Tell me! Do u bleed???
Actor : Well. Kid. I see that the bullets inside are made of kryptonite. So if you shoot me. I will die right here and you will be in big trouble. I recommend you to put your gun down before you accidentally kill someone.
@@hazmatgamer Kid: No the bullet inside is not made of Krytonite. Me myself checked it! U are lying!
"Process to shoot fake superman"
Why didn’t he just say the bullets were made of Kryptonite
I know right, that was what i was thinking
CarnGaming
that's because he loved his fans so he doesn't want to break their hearts.
You thing you´re able too be that calm and quickly come up with that in that moment?
I would have told the kid that only villains try to shoot Superman, Are you a villain Timmy?!
The kid, who brought the gun, meaning he really wanted to shoot superman, would come up with an excuse that he has no kryptonite bullets, just to be able to shoot a gun at superman
Kid was a Joker in the making 🤣
am i the only one here from Shane and Ryan's Buzzfeed Unsolved?
nope, i seen it months earlier
WHAT YOU DID WITH THE TIME LINE BARRY?
I just want to say, that is exactly how I would have handled the situation. Telling that the bullet might hit the audience
I would have added " so can we go far away from the crowd... put that in your pocket"
Or maybe tell the kid, this whole thing isn't real. I mean you would have to be a pretty dumb kid to think Superman is a real person
@@thecedex what are you talking about? The next thing you are going try and tell me is that santa claus isn't real either?
I think you missed his point. Though I think it's more from desensitization. Years ago people would expect say "rival" wrestlers not to be friends, they'd expect Hulk Hogan to be this great All-American hero and not pay any mind to who Terry Bollea is, versus now where people don't expect Mark Calloway to be The Undertaker everywhere.
?
@@delete---7593 This guy made this comment years ago, befpre google ownes youtube.
After they bought it, they made new update that messed comments for older videos, so that's why you get this seemingly out of context reply.
i swear god i thought this was a comedy movie just by watching this scene
That's because you're infantile and can't see anything else without having to think about your childish cartoons
Ben is Henry Cavill and That kid is Ben
0:41 my exact face at the theater when I realized Batman v Superman was actually going to be a massive shitfest...
I share your pain
BvS director's cut is amazing and The man of steel / BvS / Zack snyder's JL trilogy is probably the best trilogy of the decade after The planet of the apes remakes
Director's Cut was great. Batman V Superman: Ultimate Edition is massively better than theatrical version, highly recommended
@@k4dow Agreed, One of the best trilogy
This kind of fun impression is what they need to bring back to Superman. Hopefully Man of Steel does it well
Clueless
This aged poorly
Oof man
Well....
Sorry man
This aged in the worst way, fr
lol this is funny Jason Spevack looks so little :P
whoa calm down there young gun
did this happen for real?
Yes.
Yes, A little boy brought a gun to a superman promotion George was doing, because the kid wanted to see if he was really invicable to bullets. George explained to the boy that, even though, it would in fact the bullet would bounce off of him, it would then ricochet into the crowd nearby and take down a bystander. The boy was then disarmed
@@thesniper225 What kind of stupid parents give their kid a gun? A real gun too. A pair of idiots. Bet that kid became a school shooter at some point while both parents messed up somewhere and are in a bad shape.
so funny to see batman superman
What the name this movie?
americans
Why cut the scene there?
I seen this before didnt realize it was afleck back then so he played superman, batman & daredevil he is going around, what next spiderman, iron man? Xd
Whoa buddy, calm down. It was just a comment.
the 1950s super man
a awesome website
Did this actually happen?
MrHEC381991 yes
He did ??
that really happened for real??
Dumpstermuffin1 YES
Suspenseful, OMG
Did George Reeves really get shot???
He managed to get the gun from the kid
Yes but his death is a mystery because police thought it was a suicide, evidence from the crime scene shows that was in fact impossible for George to have shot himself because the bullet hole in the roof meant he would of had his head turned horizontally prior to shooting the gun. Also the gun was between his feet and not his hand, like how you would expect if someone shot themselves, and the bullet casing was under his body, which the casing (had he fired the gun) would have been anywhere around him other then under his body (possibly near the wall beside him). Alot of people theorize that his fianceè (Leonore Lemon) killed him.
We know the difference today between actor and icon? I doubt that, tell that to the people who spent months waiting in line to see Star Wars Episode 1 dressed as Jedi's or the people who go to conventions dressed in Trek Costumes. People today are more out of touch with reality then ever! No grown man over the age of 18 in the 1950's would ever go out dressed as a Superhero unless it was a costume party, they would lock you up in the nut house back then! Grown ups were far more mature back then.
Idk why it says 1 reply there is no reply besides me
@@manshsingh5680 Bro idk why It says 2 replys i dont see any other than yours

He lived through the kid almost shooting him but he ended up dying later at his house due to a gunshot wound, police suspected a suicide but the crime scene evidence shows this is not the case, some people theorize his fianceè killed him
i was joking 2 months ago. i knew what it was. i'm daskrip on reddit, message me up if you want!
Superman is never gonna be like what christoper reeve and george reeves did anymore. Man of steel is gonna be an action flick not a fun superman. I hate hollywood.
Shh
This Didn't age well lmao.
Go watch Josstice League if you want Cavill to be like George Reeves’ Superman
BTW Man Of Steel was better of a Superman fun flick than Reeves Superman flicks. I know those movies were great in their time period coz nostalgia but i think Man Of Steel was epic
@@muhammadalikhan7244 honestly, a good balance between the two would be really damn good. Imagine if you have Cavill's sheer physicality mixed with Christopher Reeve's raw charisma on screen? That would have been amazing. Besides, Superman has always been the nicest guy around. Bringing a little light to the world in these dark times would be pretty dope, wouldn't you think?
That kid is as american as it gets...
