Pete Thorn just might be my favorite guitarist of all time. I usually hate instrumental rock stuff, but Pete's songs are always catchy, interesting, thoughtful, badass, etc. Cool pedal too.
That grin at 1:48, a moment of expression of one's feeling and love for music sold me to this pedal. Ordered one and looking forward putting it to work. Pete's demo is by far the best. My sincere thanks to you Pete.
It might sound Freq’y but... I was jamming earlier... and I ran my electric guitar rig into my amp. I then had some spare delay pedals and this freq’out attached to my semi acoustic guitar into its own amp... I placed the acoustic guitar in front of the electric guitars amp, the mic in the guitar and resonance from the acoustic was easily enough to generate a signal into the freqout... it created a very extra tone.... also worked putting keyboard synths into the amp... which meant the keyboard had auto guitar harmonies running with it lol....
I bought this pedal after watching this Pete Thorn Demo. On my small pedal board for tight stages it is the freqout and the tuner only! I chuckle at the YEARS of running back to the amp to try and hold a note when we couldn't play at volume, now I just step on the pedal. I use it all night at Gigs! A Huge favorite! Thanks Pete.
That run from 2:02 -2:09...? Sick!!!! This demo just sounded so incredible. Pete you are an amazing, absolutely amazing musician. 25 people gave a thumbs down - 25 people who are absolutely tone deaf.
Mr. Thorn you continue to amaze! Your talent and creativity are a marvel to behold. I purchased the pedal just now because of your demonstration. The run up the neck near the end of the video was simply spectacular. Thank you for always making me smile when I hear you play Maestro.
I actually got this pedal a few days ago and have been experimenting with it in the studio. Holy hell how did they nail this so well?! I constantly keep finding myself readjusting my guitar with the amp to control the feedback then have to remind myself that it‘s actually the pedal doing the magic! It just sounds SO GOOD!
Thanks Pete, one of the things I was really hoping this would do was a eBow like sound but no one had really shown if it could do that so it was great to see you pull that out of it. Space already reserved on my board for it.
Holy crapola, here I am over a year and a half later, and I can't believe it's been that long already. I bought one as soon as I could get one, and it's one of the few "if it broke, I'd buy annother one the same day" pedals that I own. You can truly believe that you're playing through a cranked rig, because when you want the screaming octave love, it happens at the push of a button, and psychologically that actually changes the way you play. Even funnier is that I've had friends say "Whoo, you must record really loud, is that, like, good for your hearing...?" :O)
I agree with another comment: Easily one of the best guitar pedal demos ever. Digitech is going to sell so many of these pedals. Thanks Pete for the demo. Your generosity is always appreciated.
such a beautiful song for this demo, love how you always put what you demo thru a musical setting! I want this soley because of your creative use and great song!
I come back to this video to hear the demo song/playing,,Pete, you sure have some tasty note selection on those solos,, so freshening and stand out from a sea of guitar players.
I agree, this pedal is the coolest thing to come out in a gangsta minute. I just picked one up today and wanted to see what others thought of it... it's a blast to play with!
I see this thing as a must have for anyone who records silently/direct...Torpedo Live, VST amps, Axe-FX, whatever. I've found it REALLY hard to get any sort of feedback in this setting and this MORE than solves this problem.
It is needed if you have a Helix definitely. The models are so good it eliminates all unnecessary tones, and overtone feedback is subject to get a bit silenced.
It's nice when someone starts talking in a demo and it doesn't immediately kill my interest in the video. Great job! My main interest in this pedal is having the ability to create feedback at lower volumes.
Pete you always strike a great balance between technique and musicality....I realize now how you do that with gear also and it sounds so organic ( guess where I got that adjective). you are modeling musicianship for us out here.... much thanks
damn pete. This is the coolest demo of this pedal on youtube. Your video is the only one that has made me want this pedal. To be fair though all your videos make me want what ever it is you are demoing.
I used to have something like this in the boss GT6 I owned a long time ago and was recently looking for something similar that I could add onto my pedal board. After seeing this beauty I was immediately sold and bought one without even looking any further.
You said exactly what I thought when I heard about this at NAAM Pete, like I've waited my whole playing life for this to be invented. Ordered mine yesterday and can't wait!
Hey Stop, my pre-ordered one came into the store just last Friday and I've never had a pedal do exactly what I thought it would do more than this one. Talk about seamless integration with my pedalboard! The one thing I noticed is that it seems as if you should place distortion devices after the Freqout. When I placed it before the feedback didn't seem to be nearly as effective, probably related to the changed frequency spectrum I am guessing.
Truthasvictim - I got my Freqout a couple of days ago from Sweetwater. (great customer service by the way!) It seems like the Freqout is a clever combination of the Fender Runaway Feedback, (which does 5ths, Subharmonic, and Wet only mode for Ebow style effects) and the Boss FB2. (which can sustain feedback for as long as the pedal is depressed) I have both of those pedals, (as well as Boss GT8, GT6, ME33, had a ME8 way back when- all had some version of Boss' old Feedbacker, and/or newer Feedback Modelling) but the Freqout does everything they do BETTER! Better tracking, less weird noises and "glitches", more harmonic overtones, and easier to control. You are absolutely correct that the Freqout probably works/sounds better when it is placed BEFORE the distortion. Kudos to Digitech for taking this concept to the next level! No need to modify my guitars to install the Sustainiacs I bought used (years ago on Ebay) now! Hopefully they will come out with some "Freqout 2" version that will be able to store favorite settings as presets. Then you could easily footswitch between various feedback sounds without having to bend down and touch anything.
Yes, it sure gets the old stamp of approval from me for the reasons you cite. I own a Fernandes Strat, the AFR-80 that had the sustainer pickup in it that they only made for one year. It's a great guitar when used for the straight Strat pickups, but I found the sustainer thing useless. First, it takes ages for the feedback to gain, second, it made the sound super thin and very shrill in the upper frequencies. My E-Bow is probably redundant now too. I agree, storage would be great so you could change the harmonics generated on the fly.
Truthasvictim - wow. You have one of the oldest Fernandes Sustainers. I also own a old Fernandes Dragon Fly Elite. The guitar is pretty good, though I'm not crazy about the shape or the fret size. Anyway that Sustainer works fine - especially in Harmonic mode. (mix mode takes longer to reach full intensity even with the knob turned all the way up. Seems like wiggling the tremelo bar a little helps get the Sustainer going faster.) One thing I noticed about the Freqout, the "5th" setting (actually 2 octaves and a 5th higher than the fundamental note being played) is so high that it can sound kind of unnatural. Maybe Digitech should have included a 2 octaves up harmonic setting as well. This is a very minor critique - it doesn't take away from how cool this pedal is!
Pete, I had already ordered one before seeing your video. But this video has made me more excited to get it! The track at the beginning was amazing! Your demos are always the best! 😜🤘
best review of this pedal I've seen yet Pete. I was in 2 minds whether to get this pedal, you've just made me hit the buy it now button. No pressure big man!!
Wow! Next they can put a "cabinet proximity" kinda thing so we could get that out of control kinda of feeling... depending on how hard you press down = how much you turn towards your cabinet. I remember seeing the stage taped and off for Michael Schenker to return to... to get the perfect feedback.
I watched this video again for no reason whatsoever... and ordered one immediately. Not sure why I didn't the first time. Pete & Bill Ruppert have cost me a lot of money. I have no regrets.
Pete Thorn just might be my favorite guitarist of all time. I usually hate instrumental rock stuff, but Pete's songs are always catchy, interesting, thoughtful, badass, etc. Cool pedal too.
That fast run up the neck is breathtaking. What a monster and a nice guy.
is it wrong that i thumbs up every Pete Thorn video within the first minute. This is way older, but Pete's current videos are just as awesome.
That grin at 1:48, a moment of expression of one's feeling and love for music sold me to this pedal. Ordered one and looking forward putting it to work. Pete's demo is by far the best. My sincere thanks to you Pete.
Amazing! That was by far the best and most musical demo of the Freq Out I've seen. Great job!
Randy Thomas 🙏 thank u!
*Great cover ! See that !**ruclips.net/video/7I14asXpk_Y/видео.html*
This is the most amazing product and the best video on the Internet. Sold.
It might sound Freq’y but... I was jamming earlier... and I ran my electric guitar rig into my amp. That opening track has to be on the album. Amazing.
benzakonium thanks! Maybe I'll work it up...
*Amazing demo ! Check it out ! **ruclips.net/video/7I14asXpk_Y/видео.html*
Jesus, Pete. That solo when it switches to the black Suhr... So damn good. That flatted 5th at 1:38. One of your best demo leads. Hell yeah.
wgb01001 it sounded killer with that geetar and it was the SL68 too- deadly!
I said the same exact thing about his solo when he switched to the white Suhr 🤣
*Amazing demo ! Check it out ! **ruclips.net/video/7I14asXpk_Y/видео.html*
Pete, your playing just gets better every time I see you. You're such an inspiration.
Steven Hayward thanks Steven!
I bought this pedal after watching this Pete Thorn Demo. On my small pedal board for tight stages it is the freqout and the tuner only! Yeah, if you're disliking Pete, it's because you're jealous of his playing imo. Dude couldn't be nicer or more humble. Terrific player.
The opening song sounds very much like Steven Wilson to me, love it!
I thought the same thing!
Indeed!
Porcupine Tree was pretty big, IMO. I have always thought that he is one of the biggest on the modern prog scene.
+Wadsmitter Here we go again ... ! That's still crazy everytime ;-)
I love the theremin like sound you can get from that pedal. Thank you for the demo.
I watch a lot of gear videos and Pete really knows how to show off a pedal and all it can be. Thanks Pete!
All my questions about this pedal were answered during the musical intro.
Mr. Thorn you continue to amaze! Your talent and creativity are a marvel to behold. I purchased the pedal just now because of your demonstration. The run up the neck near the end of the video was simply spectacular. Thank you for always making me smile when I hear you play Maestro.

I constantly keep finding myself readjusting my guitar with the amp to control the feedback then have to remind myself that it‘s actually the pedal doing the magic! It just sounds SO GOOD!
Just such a great musical way of using this, thanx so much!
Thanks Pete, one of the things I was really hoping this would do was a eBow like sound but no one had really shown if it could do that so it was great to see you pull that out of it. Space already reserved on my board for it.
I have one coming! I can't wait.
It sounds like throwing an eBow on at specific times. Super cool.
Fantastic demo as always Pete! I was already sold on this pedal, but you really reaffirmed how awesome this pedal is.
i totally wrote this off when it first came out. Never underestimate Pete to open your mind to the infinite universe of possibilities.
Holy crapola, here I am over a year and a half later, and I can't believe it's been that long already. Pete makes any pedal sound good!
I agree with another comment: Easily one of the best guitar pedal demos ever. Digitech is going to sell so many of these pedals. Thanks Pete for the demo. Your generosity is always appreciated.
I can't get enough of this pedal. When I'm back on the market for effects, this is on my hut list!
such a beautiful song for this demo, love how you always put what you demo thru a musical setting! I want this soley because of your creative use and great song!
Pete, I can't even put into words just how inspiring your demo tracks are, let alone your albums. GODDAMN, MAN! I loved this!
Outstanding Pete. Ordered mine today.
I come back to this video to hear the demo song/playing,,Pete, you sure have some tasty note selection on those solos,, so freshening and stand out from a sea of guitar players.
I agree, this pedal is the coolest thing to come out in a gangsta minute. I just picked one up today and wanted to see what others thought of it... it's a blast to play with!
seriously, that was me of the best demos I have ever seen/heard.......
I see this thing as a must have for anyone who records silently/direct...Torpedo Live, VST amps, Axe-FX, whatever. I've found it REALLY hard to get any sort of feedback in this setting and this MORE than solves this problem.
Got mine in the mail today, the box it comes in is super cool too
Absolutely beautiful composition at the beginning! and yeah that pedal is a must have!
By far my favorite song I've ever heard on one of your videos.
Thanks Kevin, glad u dig it!
The best demo off this pedal, so far...there's so much to it! Thanks, Pete. Had one on order for a few weeks!! Can't wait to get it!
Beautifully melodic solo. Reminded me of the sax solo on Where are you going.
after Digitech whammy, this is going to be Digitech's classics
Yup
This pedal is a #1 seller on all sales sites.
Ain't no doubt!
How to sell me a pedal I don't need in two minutes
Yup pretty much. Now I want to buy it and never considered it previously
It is needed if you have a Helix definitely. The models are so good it eliminates all unnecessary tones, and overtone feedback is subject to get a bit silenced.
That demo track was amazing!
It's nice when someone starts talking in a demo and it doesn't immediately kill my interest in the video. Great job! My main interest in this pedal is having the ability to create feedback at lower volumes.
It really does show when you sincerely get excited about a pedal! This one sounds like a keeper.
I wanted this pedal before Pete did a video on it, but now I know I need this pedal.
Pete you are an excellent guitar player and a brilliant musician. This track and the EVH Overdrive track are brilliant.
thanks!!
*Amazing demo ! Check it out ! **ruclips.net/video/7I14asXpk_Y/видео.html*
20 years ago- One of the guitar manufacturers had an effect built in to their guitars that was switchable. So much guitar shop fun back then!!
tremendous Pete thorn! killer play! great offering from DigiTech
Beautiful playing
I bought this pedal (and it's AMAZING!), but I keep coming back to this video just for the music.
That whistle effect sounds terrific.
Love this pedal. Bought a few months ago because of your demo. Thanks for taking the time (and care) to make the BEST videos on RUclips!
+Gerald Hartley Thank you Gerald!
Bought this tonight due to your demo. It’s amazing to use! Excellent video!
@7:44 ... That Riff !!! So unique sounding. Pete Rules!
This pedal sounds amazin
Peter Thorn kicks ads. Everything he plays is creative, interesting and sounds real good. The ultimate gear pusher.Killer tones.
My favorite remark from Pete: "There's obviously the potential for misuse ..." Great demo video. Just ordered one, looking forward to it!
Pete love your channel. Your creativity and hard work keep us all inspired!
Honestly one of the nicest pieces of music I've ever heard Pete, there's something beautifully Satriani-esque about it!
thanks, I do love Joe! I was just watching his Iridium Les Paul tribute concert and remembering why I like him so much, he's just really musical IMHO
Wow so versatile - and yeah, I thought about the ebow too. Really cool pedal!
Jeez dude, every time I find a new post your playing astounds me. You're up there with all the guitar greats in my opinion.
Hey thank you so much Chris!
This is why Pete is at the top of the demo tree kids, fantastic stuff :)
Don't speak like that to your elders o.O
Pete Pete Pete duuude... I was so unsure about this pedal till I saw you use it. You make it siiing like no one else seems to in their demos. W O W
Thanks :)
Pete, I said the exact same thing. I have to get this. And I did. Such a useful tool for my 'silent studio.'
I wonder if you could feed this pedal into a Big Muff and get Fripp's singing sustaining lead on Bowie's "Heroes" . . .
I just got one of these. So great.
Your comments were 100% taking the words out of my mouth.
That is THE most beautiful effect, and your demo piece was faboo! EXcellent!
love the sustain...
What a gorgeous opening song!
Sean Kebely :) thanks!

the quality of this pedal is btw lightyears ahead compared to the old multi effects pedal I mentioned, I had good fun with it though.
Best demo of the freaq yet! Ace playing Pete!
You said exactly what I thought when I heard about this at NAAM Pete, like I've waited my whole playing life for this to be invented. Ordered mine yesterday and can't wait!
Truthasvictim i feel the exact same way!

Fabbo demo Pete...you soooooooooooo nailed the subtle/ambient as well as the high energy playing using this pedal...and this track is gorgeous...
Anthony Richards thanks!
Woah..the opening track is stellar!
Best gear demos I've seen.. ever I must say.
thanks!!!
Thanks so much! I think we were all waiting for a demo of this being used to make actual music. Wonderful job!
It's on order! Nice work, as always, Pete!
Pete, I had already ordered one before seeing your video. But this video has made me more excited to get it! The track at the beginning was amazing! Your demos are always the best! 😜🤘
Thanks Pete, All the best to You !
I bought this pedal cos of this demo. Love it! Thank you Pete!
Awesome pedal and demo! I have a feeling that we'll be hearing this one a little too often.
amazing pedal :D thanks for the review
This is my favorite intro u have ever done! So beautiful man!!!!!
best review of this pedal I've seen yet Pete. I was in 2 minds whether to get this pedal, you've just made me hit the buy it now button. No pressure big man!!
Nice demo and breakdown! I have this pedal but have yet to explore it. This video will certainly help me figure out how to maximize the potential.
I hope the intro becomes a song. It's just so awesome!
Wow! Next they can put a "cabinet proximity" kinda thing so we could get that out of control kinda of feeling... depending on how hard you press down = how much you turn towards your cabinet. I remember seeing the stage taped and off for Michael Schenker to return to... to get the perfect feedback.
already preordered - can't wait for it! great demo
Thanks for showing it works with the whammy bar
They need to make a mini pedal version of this pedal. I would love one, but I don't have the space on my board for a full pedal.
I just ordered one from Guitar center after watching this video. Thanks for the in depth review.
Great demo! beautiful track and melodies.
I ordered this Pedal today.
bought this pedal based on this video. very cool. Jamming with Big Country and the Alarm on the stereo.
Thanks Mr Thorn! watching from Ottawa ON and your videos are helping keep me sane during the pandemic sequestering
Just seen Pete’s Rig Rundown……..can’t believe I’m only just discovering this pedal!!!
I watched this video again for no reason whatsoever... and ordered one immediately. Not sure why I didn't the first time.
Pete & Bill Ruppert have cost me a lot of money. I have no regrets.
Pete, you rock like only a few know how.
