his name is Phil Judd and he’s a fucking amazing musician. he has soooo many solo albums that came out in the last 10 years. GET ONTO IT! “No one’s best friend” is a good start
Those were the days....lip syncing so ruled. Gotta hand it to Phil Judd though. He was the man all right. Great musician/artist no doubt about that, in fact totally under rated to be fair.
Yeah not much mike discipline on that stage, but hey everyone was having a good time! This song ages pretty well, catchy as a good fisherman on a day when the fish are biting....
I don't think people realise how dramatically SHORT that hair seemed at the time... lol some days I just wake up and have this song on the brain. Those days, I come here. Thanks for the upload, love it.
This band is sooo underrated by all you modern snobs who don't care bout our Phudd(Phil Judd), if come across this comment you've stumbled across the cool side of RUclips. Now go back to your Tay Tay Taylor and come back to us again!
Amen! I raced out & bought the single on the very day it was released in Christchurch, purely on the strength of the B-Side, which was a re-recording of 'One Good Reason' which I'd thrashed on the 'AK '79' album of goodnosity. I don't think I'd heard 'Counting the Beat' at that stage, unless it was featured on RWP? But whatever - I'm sure the neighbours got WELL sick of hearing it played at Max Volume (11! LoL) umpteen times a day for the rest of the month! I still frikking LOVE it to this day, despite it becoming the theme tune to sell frozen meat and discount cans of tWatties Sauce at bleedin' bloody Countdown, and I often think it's simply the BEST pop song in the world! Ayup! :-)
+Olivia Watson Very good question Olivia! I'm a Kiwi too! I see the uploader Roy Gardnerra is from Australia and he has indicated that from 1998-2002 the song was used in advertisements for Kmart Australia. It was included on an episode of the Australian TV series 20 to 1, covering "one hit wonders". "Counting the Beat" was ranked number 13 and was identified as Australian in origin. As The Swingers were signed with Australian label Mushroom Records and were resident in Australia at the time, the song is sometimes seen as an Australian song". I'm wondering if you have missed including the word 'why' in your question? Then your question would be 'Why do you think someone from another country would post this?' I can't answer that one I'm afraid. One thing I do know is that "Counting The Beat" to me will ALWAYS be an ORIGINAL NEW ZEALAND song by an ORIGINAL NEW ZEALAND BAND even though the band and song were signed with Australian label Mushroom Records and were resident in Australia at the time....the Aussies have always tried to 'steal' NZ home grown artists and their songs...mind you in the instance of The Swingers and the song 'Counting The Beat' there is pretty good validity for the claim....I really hope this has helped you understand the issue regarding The Swingers and in particular their song 'Counting The Beat'. Best wishes to you Leighton (NZ) :-)
