- Water Quality Index or WQI is a very efficient and user-friendly tool to assess and represent water quality of a water source. It is very useful to analyse complex and bulk water quality data and represent them to the administration and common people in understandeable way. This video lucidly explains WQI determination step by step with the help of an example.
very informative for a person like me who had no idea about WQI till I saw this video
Thanks for the appreciation! Best Wishes!
Beautifully explained 👍👍👍
Thanks a lot 😀
Very useful vedio for me as a beginner in this water quality field.
Glad that the video is of help to you.
Very interesting information regarding water quality.
This video will be useful for environmental engineering students, civil engineering students, research scholars, public health engineering department, regulatory organisations, Water NGOs and other interested people.
Thank you for your valuable words.
I'm a scholar and this content was very useful. Thanks
Thank you so much. Very informative presentation. But at 6.11 min, how come the Σ(1/Si) become 134??
Nicley compliled video, althogh i m nt into field but it is so illaborateld explaind that make me understand each n every step of it... n indeed water is precious resource in this era, so it need to be assed. Well done greenfeather

Thank you! The video is having human voice.
Good one
Thank you😊 your support means a lot to us.
Good concept🙏
Thanks. Don't forget to subscribe and hit the bell icon...
Very informative, interesting and nicely explained video. I'm going to check my water quality now 🤡
Happy that the video is of use to you. Hopefully we will be able to provide more good contents in the coming days 😃 Thanks and Best Wishes!
Very good similarly expecting how air quality index is calculated and when we can use geometric progression to get the indicies
Thanks for your kind words and support. We will surely try to make a video on AQI in future. Geometric progression was introduced back in 1974 by McClelland. Geometric as well as harmonic progression was used in expectation that these will increase the sensitivity of the model towards lower parameter values or minute fluctuations.
please upload the AQI asap...
We will try our best to upload it fast 😃
Well explanation. Thanks a lot
Thank you for watching our video
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
very nice explanation mam it helps a lot
Very informative,
I have a boubt we can find WQI through canadian standard 1993 as well?
This technique can be applied with any recommended standard.
Thanks, Please also explain to us in the future entropy weighted water
quality index (EWQI)
Thank you for watching our video..
Oh it means Wi is already calculated or given by who. We have to jus calculate the Qi And integrate in WQI formula
Very nice explanation 😊
Thanks 😊.. Do support us to create more useful contents!
Please provide a video on CCME WQI
Thanks
Please how can I get the calculation for Oregon WQI
Thank You for your Respose..We will try to put up a video on other WQI indices...Please find the CCME WQI in our channel
Hi. Thanks for this useful video, it has helped me understand the general procedure of calcutating WQI with ease. A quick question and a request...
1. How would the results be affected if a parameter of a different SI unit is introduced, for example if temperature was needed and someone used temperature in degrees Celsius while another uses Kelvin?
2. Could you kindly upload a video of how to construct a sample categorisation/classification table given water quality standard of a particular place...
Thanks for this video
But please can we use all the parameters to calculate for WQI
I thought there were specific parameters
Plz explained which parameters are required for wqi
thank you very much
i would like to ask if there is any way to determine weight of the variable by statically methods and thank you
Ma'am in gate exam , do we use other than arithmetic to determine wqi?
Thank you for your interest in our channel. In any competitive exam, if you are required to determine WQI, then the method must be mentioned in the question itself. If arethematic is mentioned then do follow the steps mentioned in our video to assess the water quality.
analysis of water quality index is based on who is it sir? NSF WQI or Brown, or something?
In this video they follow BSI standard. U can use any established water quality standard like WHO. It is better that u use national standard of native country.
Has anyone managed to use the "Canadian Water Quality Index 1.0 Calculator"?
what is E-04, E05??? how the summation of Wi is 1?
Can you please explain, how GIS techniques will be used while calculating the groundwater quality.
Could you please email your query at green.feather2020@gmail.com ? Thank you
DO U HAVE ANY SPREADSHEET FOR DOING THIS
Thank You for showing your interest in GreenFeather. We determine the water quality of water bodies and assist in research work as well. You can send your query in green.feather2020@gmail.com.
who gave this index could u please name it?
Maam Which is the correct expression
Qi = (Vi/Si)*100 or Qi ={(Vi-Vo)/(Si-Vo)} * 100
I think both are correct, when Vo not given first equation is used, and when Vo is given second equation is used.
Dear ma'am, interesting information. Could you help me for analysing data to determine WQI. Then I will send you data.
Hi John, Green Feather is an environment consultancy.. You may email your requirement to green.feather2020@gmail.com ... Never send raw data to any organization without verifying the source...
I just checked on the internet... the WQI rating table there is completely opposite of what you have given
WQI may be computed through different techniques. In this video only one technique is described, which can be followed to assess the water quality of an area. The categorisation shown here is also just an example to clarify the final step. The categorisation can be done suitable to the study area or previous knowledge on water quality status, as mentioned in the video. The reverse categorisation is for WQI- CCME/ NSFWQI/OWQI or modifed WQI based on normalised scoring of the parameters.
If you want more videos on these techniques, please let us know and subscribe us for updates on such topics..
It's great...

is this method can be used for biological parameters like E-Coli and total coliforms?
For drinking water coliform standard is 0.Therefore, 1/Si = infinity. So, u can't calculate WQI. This is the disadvantage of arithmetic WQI. U can used CCME WQI for such parameters.
@@syedyakubali1154 Thanks for the reply. But in my case, I have only one-time sampling for 40 wells. Is it suitable for used the CCME WQI method for one sampling? or can you suggest me to the best way to analyze this data (physicochemical and biological) using any WQI method
@@dilandhananjaya6742 Yes, Dilan ji. U can calculate. Recently I found @greenfeather upload 2 videos about CCME WQI with good explanation. U can follow their videos.
is this horton index
Please upload on a video on calculation of water quality index for irrigation purpose and aquatic life
Thank you for your interest in our video..you can substitute the standard for irrigation and fishery in place of drinking water quality standard as mentioned in video..apart from this irrigation water quality can be assessed through SAR/ wilcox index etc, which will be uploaded soon...stay tune and subscribe for more updates..
@@GreenFeather please provides the water quality standard limits for irrigation and fishery
Mam Can I get This Ppt Please reply
Is Summation w(i) = 1 in every case ??
Thank you for your interest in this video. summation (w(i)) should always be 1, while computing w(i) through the steps as described in this video. However, it may be more than 1, if weightage is determined by different techniques such as expert opinion or literature survey, etc.
@@GreenFeather ma'am make a video on water quality index for irrigation purpose and aquatic life
Dear Manas, determination of WQI for irrigation water is same as determining WQI for drinking water, only you have to select parameters more relevant for irrigation water and you have to select suitable standard values for irrigation water.
summation of (1/Si) is wrong and their is lot of mistakes in doing (1/Si) i guess
Noted with thanks. We will mention the calculation error in our description. The basic purpose of this video is to demonstrate the steps of calculating a particular type of WQI. Hope it has served its purpose. Thanks again for your interest in the subject. Regards and best wishes.
Perfect video on WQI
