I know what you mean, Harry. I'm 68, and my wife discourages me from buying them anymore. Once in a while I I do, from ArkivMusic, if I find a good recording at a good price of something I like.
"Silent night surrounding me On the shore of wistful sea A kindest heart made me believe The world as I wish it to be Wind in the wheat Kiss by a hearth Little hideaways for a lonely heart..." It just keeps repeating in my head every time I hear "The heart asks pleasure first". 😁 Thanks both Nyman for composing and Nightwish for covering(and therefore sending me here). 😊
Sorry for poor English. While being listening the last composition memory recollected one strong fragment from the Z00 by Peter Greenaway. Yes it is, it is not mistake! Brilliant performance!
For my point of view are the two living music composers - Philip Glass,on 31 january 2018 he becomes 81 years, and Michael Nyman, on 23 march 2018- 74 jears. The most brilliant and outstanding composres.
Beautiful interpretation!!!So glad to hear the Nyman piano back from the bottom of the sea!!!!(I loved that movie so much!)And such a music... Which deserved to be classified as part as minimalistic contemporain rather than just music for films!Thx+++!
So many wonderful emotions well up in me as I listen to this very lyrical and fulfilling piano solo music. It is exquisite in the interpretation and execution here by Jeroen Van Veen, who seems just born to play these incredible selections. I would classify these compositions between Minimalist and Post-Modern, but they really can't be stereotyped, honestly. Michael Nyman and Jeroen Van Veen are two of the greatest creative geniuses of modern times!
Bill, not from the very beginning - Satyagraha. The Departure - Badalamenti. The Exchange - recombination and reframing of some furnishing motif of some “Brazilian television series”. Mr. Nyman - molecular biologist of music!
Oh wow! Normally I don't like modern composers, but this one is an exception. Very good music. Very touchy. Thanks for making me acquainted with Michael Nyman.
The composer Ludovico Einaudi is one of my favorite. You may also like his music, try Oltremare, Nuvole Bianche, Una Mattina, Divenire, and so on... I like them all :)
Beautiful interpretation! Bravo! Very sensual and dramatic. I believe necessary degree of dramatism was missing from the original CD, whereas here you have accomplished it fully.
I think Valentina was completely wrong to play Nyman. Minimalistic music isn't her strength. Her finger-controll is too soft. The interpretations here are on point.
I had a CD of soundtrack to The Cold Room. Awesomely eerie. Lost it a neighbor's Halloween party. I put on The Piano soundtrack & just bliss-out by playing over & over. Harry, I know what you mean about purchasing hard copies of music. Free Pandora & Spotify are excellent sources. Or listen to a favorite radio station online. I do get some CD's at the second-hand store RepoCheapo & I dub or rip discs I check out of the public library. I'm very much liking van Vleen's touch on keyboard. Wonderful interpretation of a piece I'm so familiar with yet it sounds so different. Very nice.
I love the idea of it, but to be quite honest I find the pianist's hand a bit too heavy sometimes. Though he is obviously very talented, his renderings tend to force the climax moments, not leaving them space to resound spiritually: then the banging sound of the piano stifles the deeper, extrasound effect the climaxes should have, specially in such econominal and delicate compositions as Nyman's.
Laura Anne ...I, too love Philip Glass’ soundtrack to The Hours. But I’m afraid I have to say that much of this music has, to me, a rather generic and formulaic quality to it.
Although it seems a few tunes that repeat themselves in looping, nothing further! No! Minimalist musical language is not built with looping! This feature - the looping - is for anyone who is illiterate.
Is this recording some sort of joke, Jeroen? It’s hard to believe you would spend anytime on Nyman after listening to your greatest of all time recordings of the complete solo piano music of Simeon ten Holt in 2013.
Thank you. At age 72, I am unable to afford CDs, and must rely on You Tube and the generous uploaders for my classical music.
Harry Andruschak I fell in love with his music when I was forteen I've never looked back!!!!!!

Michael Nyman thank you so much.

Nyman made a lot of music for Peter Greenaway films - it was a divine duo for sound and image!!

È tra i grandi compositori della nostra epoca
Con la música de Michael Nyman nos adentramos en un universo etéreo. Sublime!!!!

Time to start off my day listening to a few of your tunes, and get to work myself. Really liking all of your music! ⭐️
Thank You for your support!

This moviemusic is touching, I particulary like the rythm in the first piano piece.
Beautiful interpretation! Bravo! Very sensual and dramatic. I believe necessary degree of dramatism was missing from the original CD, whereas here you have accomplished it fully.

Beautiful. I feel as if I know this music even though I've never heard it before. It's got a universal feel to it.
LINDÍSSIMO ❤️❤️❤️❤️
Lindo. Um aplauso do Brasil
Happy New Year, it is 2019. What to wish for? Money, success, or to wish for something more, like golden years (from one TV show)? My faith is.
Güzel Müzikler. Teşekkürler. ( Beautiful Mussic. Thanks.)
Very nice. New fan of the composer and the pianist.
Geweldige muziek❤️
New to me. Thank you so much!
I love it
So lovely.
This is beautiful. :-)
Really Great Pianist, personally I prefere by far Valentina Lisitsa playing Nyman (try Chasing Sheep, she is incredible)
I think Valentina was completely wrong to play Nyman. Minimalistic music isn't her strength. Her finger-controll is too soft. The interpretations here are on point.

Jeroen van Veen ftw!
Música muy chula.

GREAT

Another movie sound track I love like the Hours

Franklyn…❤️🩹but the tempo feels a little too fast…maybe I’m wrong. You cannot escape the gorgeous melody.
Yes 0:14
35:56... Nyman possessed by Chopin.
Indeed! It must have been a sweet moment.
Haha
I'm in doubt if it is really a piece of Chopin XD Isn't it really?
@@white.swan. Yes, it's a brief quotations from a Chopin Mazurka.
@@marcelproust1520 Thanks so much! Can you tell me which Mazurka is?
what is the name of the theme that comes immediately after The Piano (2nd piece)..does anyone know?

Basically the same song looped for nearly two hours.
kuopassa No! Minimalist musical language is not built with looping! This feature - the looping - is for anyone who is illiterate.
I see a lot of variations in it.
@kuopassa That's the whole idea of minimalisic music you know ;-) you should first understand the concept en then comment ! Study Philip Glass ....
Well I can hear variation throughout and it is very relaxing and appreciated.
