Hakan Yucel My thoughts exactly. After 20 years the sigma is only marginally better than the Canon lens in some areas. Canon weighs half and cost half used. That speaks well for Canon.
I really enjoyed the video. Getting ‘Real’ feedback from an professional and exceptional artist is always a MAJOR plus. Thank you for not being biased in your presentation!
The extra 1/3 stop makes almost no difference and if you like warmer colors, just make it a little bit warmer in lightroom/photoshop. I still find the bokeh of the canon better and you don‘t get any of these typical 3rd party lense-issues with the canon. And all that for half the price of the sigma (especially if you look around on the „used“ market)... so I would never go for the ugly, almost twice as heavy sigma but that‘s just my opinion :)
Loved the video.. Like i mentioned.. just picked up a used 135mm f2 and looking to put it to the test in the coming weeks. Good to know what the differences are between the sigma and the canon lenses. Thank you so much for the English videos.. makes it even better than the subtitled japanese videos. As you know.. i am a big fan of your work and youtube channel. Thank you.
I had Canon 100mm f 2.0 and price is cheap from amazing price f2 razor sharp great focus, 85mm is way worse than 100mm, 135 is a bit sharper and bit faster focus only a bit, but sigma is not reliable at focus, so for budget 100mm wins
Hai, love your review. Next i try to download your raw file link, and lead me to Japanese language which is I totally dont understand. Could you please give me a link with English version? Tks a lot
Excellent video. Sigma has made some great 3rd party lenses and the technology has improved in sharpness, which is great for those 50mp sensors. I actually went with the 135. Sometimes things are so sharp, they lose their character. The 135 combined with a Canon 5d sensor gives the photos I've taken a certain je ne sais quoi.
Great review but the video compression makes it impossible to appreciate the differences. Is there any chance you could re-upload the raw files? Many thanks!
I moved from Canon Full Frame cameras to Sony Full frame and now I'm using the Fuji GFX 50S Medium format cameras and couldn't be happier. The noise on the Canon's and Sony use to drive me crazy especially at medium to high ISO. The Fuji GFX 50S Has Very Very little noise. I can shoot at ISO 12,800 and it looks like ISO 3200 on the Sony A7R ii and Canon 5D mark iv. You do lose a lot though, Like good Video, Fast focusing and the availability of good native lenses.
Thanks 4 your vid man! I would prefer the Canon because of its weight, price and filter diameter. I ordered a few minutes ago for only 845 € brand new. A bargain :) I got the 50mm 1.4 Sigma Art and that is a really nice lens for sure, beside this I use the 85mm 1.4L for portraits as well.
Thanks for the English video! Do you like 85mm F1.8 over the 100 f2 for cheap alternative? Some of the other Sigma Art series had some focus accuracy issues...you did not experience any with the Sigma 135?
Another advantage the Canon 135 F2 you can attach 1.4 x or 2 x teleconverter. The Sigma on the other hand does not allow for teleconverter. just to mention. I had this lens, i sold it for the Canon 70 200 2.8 is iii, i miss my Canon 135 f2 looking for a nice second hand sample... john
I'd prefer the Sigma lens over the Canon because as you pointed out the Canon is twenty years old, tech wise. However, is the Sigma really worth the extra money? The skill of the photographer is always a factor.
The lenses Sigma 135mm F/1.8 Art & Canon 70-200mm f2.8 is II. Which one is better? I what to buy one of this for Portraiture or fashion. Thanks for your video~
Would have been nice to see more, and hear less, but my comment regarding that is rather academic because I already own the sigma 135, and it is definitely one of the sharpest high end lenses that I have ever used, and I've tried quite a lot.
Canon 135 is very old but sigma can not compete with it when it comes to color rendition. Canon 135mm is a legendary lens. I have 70-200mm, 50mm and 85mm But 135 has a very different characteristic
Genuine comparison brother, I have canon 80D(APSC) please help which one is more better sigma 85 mm 1.4f art OR sigma 135 1.8f art OR canon 85mm 1.4 IS due to IS. Hope for you kind feedback soon. :)
Nice video, thanks for sharing! I would go for Canon if it's nice priced second hand. Otherwise I would go for the Sigma, I just want to try continuous focus for indoor sports first. ...And for cheaper alternative Canon 100/2 is better than 85 1.8 IMO.
i shoot with sony, canon and nikon bodies and they are all great cameras that give excellent results, however my sony SLT A mount camera bodies have two major features that lead the pack, first the Electronic viewfinder that allows you to see the finished product before you actually shoot the image which opens the door for many many other features and second is the body stabilization...........i shoot for pleasure....
I am no expert but my expectation would be that the Sigma will win on paper with regards to sharpness. In the first shot of the woman in the red flowery outfit with gold sash and geometric pattern bow, to my eyes the Canon 2L was way better in both sharpness and color. I guess "warmer" means yellower. To me the Canon looked like Canon made way nicer reds, the gold sash was gold, and not slightly blown out, the pattern on the bow was sharp, and the jewellery was much more contrasty. In fact maybe it is contrast that I mean, and not sharpness. I actually know what sharpness means, but sometimes when colors are pure and contrasty it gives the impression of sharpness, which is a good thing...And yet, the versions of you Ilko, do seem much better with the Sigma. Better skin tone, much better sharpness...but a little disappointing with the red shirt seeming more orange. I sort of believe the Sigma might be technically better...you would know. But no way am I lugging a giant lens around for differences that probably aren't major. Honestly, I would save the $400 and buy the Canon 85/1.8. Again Sigma clearly has a better 85, but with the money I save there, I could get yet another lens!
Wow, can’t believe 4 years passed! If she wants lighter lens, get the canon, if sharpness is a big factor, definitely the sigma! I am personally still using the sigma quite a lot! Cheers!
Remember guys.... The Canon 135 lens is 21 year old lens ;) And it's still Nice Lens!
Hakan Yucel My thoughts exactly. After 20 years the sigma is only marginally better than the Canon lens in some areas. Canon weighs half and cost half used. That speaks well for Canon.

Alright, time for an English video, let me know in the comments what you think about those lenses! Cheers! Greetings from Japan!
I really hope to watch more English video from your great work. It is just amazing.

Very nice and informative video! I'm really amazed at how the Canon has survived in those conditions!

100mm is better and so sharp focus no problems

its called microcontrast and the pursuit of sharpeness in Sigma lenses makes naturality and microcontrast go away.

They look like small birds to me, judging by the way they are moving around on the ground.

The Canon 135 is not weather sealed. It is one of the few L lenses that are not. Most well built lenses can take weather but I would not test it.
