    A heads up : Calayan Island 101
Calayan Island isn’t an island that people would normally have in their bucket list. You would find
little information online about the island because it is quite remote so only a few people get to
    talk about the place.
The municipality of Calayan is found in the Babuyan Channel and is composed of four islands, Dalupri,
Camiguin, Babuyan Claro and Calayan where the municipal government is located.
During summer is the best time to visit the island. From April - June, and even extends till July.
Bad time is during September to February,March where the southwest and northeastern monsoon winds
comes in the Indian subcontinent, and south east Asia region. It is possible come at other times of
the year but the unpredictability of the weather makes it difficult and there is always the
possibility that one can get stranded.
    Getting here from Manila :
There is no direct transportation going to Calayan from Manila. Instead, there are 2 points where one
can take a vessel to Calayan Island: Aparri Port, and the small fishing port of Claveria, all in
    Cagayan Province.
    From Manila :
By bus/ car: There are several bus companies in Manila that offer direct trips, overnight. Your
choice whether your point of travel to Calayan is via Aparri or Claveria . Florida bus line offers
    both bus trips.
From Aparri or Claveria is a ferry to Calayan Island.
Smart is the communication provider in Calayan. If you are using your mobile phone or pocket wi-fi to
surf or check any messages on email or Facebook Smart works.
There is no public market, no local bank in Calayan, no atm machines.
There are small carinderias no restaurants. There are small grocery stores .
There is also a hospital in the Island.
Electricity is only available from 12 noon to 12 midnight. However most homes have generators and ice
    is available.
Life is so simple, peaceful, very clean environment.
    Crime rate zero.
WHERE TO STAY: There are no hotels or resorts in the Island .. Homestay is best.
    EXPENSE BREAKDOWN:
Cubao to Taggat, Claveria Php 850.By bus Claveria to Calayan by ferry Php 500 per person.
HOMESTAY : Pagdagusan Homestay - Php 1500 per person per day. (which would include breakfast , lunch,
    dinner and lodging.)
BOAT RENTAL: Php 1500 per boat plus diesel around Php 500 per day. This for a whole day of trolling
, jigging or popping to the best fishing holes in the island. ( Optional - for anglers )
