This is so true! I bought for my babies a personalized book from LionStories when they were able to make themselves the main characters and choose the setting for their stories :) I love seeing them having fun but also using their creativity
8 amazingly clear and concise steps. Great video, Dave! I especially loved your advice on editors. So many people think that writing children’s books is easy because there’s so few words, but the opposite is actually true. Because there are so few words, you need to make sure every word you use is spot on!
I write and do my own illustrations so even if I have the story down it takes months to get the right amount of illustrations. I also found by reading the storyline to children several ages, I'm able to pick the age range that the story is suited best for.
Thank you so much for this excellent video! I'm 16 and I'd like to create my very own children's e-book. I'll be the author and also the illustrator soooo hoping it will turn out great.
Excellent, I am in the process of my first children's books. This information will really help. I am not an author but I love writing, and mostly done academic essays which is a bit different to children's books. Having said that, I am very humorous and creative minded. I love beautiful imaginary, and illustrations. I can't wait to see where this journey takes me. X
You and I are in the same boat! I have an elementary education degree and have done a lot of work with kids over my years. Now I’m a stay at home mom with a 3 month old and I’m so excited to start this journey! Good luck to you ❤🎉
When I was 10, I read 'The Silence of the Lambs.' It's still my favorite book, and people still tell me that I'm not ready for something like that. So there are different interest groups, and your story will definitely resonate with someone. Write as you like, write as you wanted when you came up with the idea. (((But of course, I'm not advocating for writing a children book about how a cannibal kills a new victim))) You're the best, don't give up, write, draw, create!
Thanks for this! I’ve started writing a book series for kids 3-7 (a book that can be in a preschool classroom through first grade classroom). The main character is 5-years-old, and she has Hydrocephalus. It’s very loosely based on my childhood growing up with Hydrocephalus. My co-author is an early childhood special education teacher.
If I may ask you how are you going to publish? I’ve been working on a book my son also has a condition and me being an infant teacher I think I understood what some class books are missing
Thank you! I'm in the process of creating my first children's book, your video answered allot of my questions pertaining to selecting an illustrator, the books shape also editing. The book is already written, however, felt stuck not knowing most of the steps you mentioned. Thanks again
8 terrific tips on writing children's books! I, particularly, loved your observation on the book orientation. If it weren't for your point, I would have definitely miss it. Thank you!
I love your advice because I've been planning to write more kids' books. Recently I wrote a kids' book that's around the age range of Grade School kids. That one I wrote for my nephew and he told he liked it but I never published it. I wish I could get an editor for it and maybe publish. Also, I've been planning to write fairy tales of my own to write more kid stories. Funny thing is that I haven't worked on them yet. Hopefully, I'll get to them soon enough.
Thanks your video is very helpful and insightful. I look forward in browsing the necessary steps to producing the best book. those links mentioned are so helpful.

Great video with solid advice! I recently wrote, illustrated and published my first children's book, "Bop & Mo: Adventures Together, " through KDP. For some reason the 7 keywords don't seem to be helping when searching for my book.
I am trying to write a fantasy book that take place in school for kids. Moral behind "Never judge someone" I am person too wordy sometimes with kids it's short and simple. Thank you.
This is my second Amazon kids tablet purchase. ruclips.net/user/postUgkxAPUD3wGXVz7iwFny2pBBqGomYxe_7J6U I bought my son his first when he was one and now that he is almost three we just upgraded to this version a couple of months ago. I love that you can control the age content, block certain apps and videos, and free storage space with apps that haven’t been used in a while. This tablet has assisted my son’s learning in so many ways. We love it!
Great Video! I really enjoy how much you emphasized research at the beginning of the video. Seeing what the demographic is actually reading right now really helps with figuring out how to get your writing out to the audience. I also appreciate how much you dived into the diffeent parts of the writing of a children's book. Thanks for sharing!
I am trying to start writing a series of children books where I will highlight a “disease” mentally or physically in every story and make them the superhero they deserve to be. My first book will be about autism. And it’s animals experiencing these things. I hope it will work out the way I would like to!
Currently drawing my own children book but it’s so hard to write a good story! I am a freelance illustrator and confident in my skills but underestimated a good story :)
Hi, great video! I'm an award winning and international best-selling author who is getting ready to enter the realm of writing children's books. I'm great at rhyming and my first thought was to write books that rhyme, however, what if I don't want to rhyme in another book? You said I need to be consistent. Does it matter if one rhymes and one doesn't? Thanks so much! 🦋💜
I agree with you, hire an editor or find someone who is an English major to edit your book if you have a friend in the family who is great at this. Alternatively, install Grammarly into Word to do initial proofreading for spelling and grammar errors in either the Free version or the Pro version. I watched your other video on Grammarly and installed it. I was surprised on what I found in my documents since I thought my English was fairly good already.
Great idea. I found that I need to stop the editing on my word program. When I am writing and ideas are flowing I get distracted by the all the red wavy line because of mistakes and misspelling. I will stop and start editing my work; there goes the flow. My rule of thumb is not use any editing software, even the one that comes with my word program until i am ready to edit my work. Never used Grammarly. Can you not use until you want to?
I'm new to your channel and I love the information that you share. It appears that the volume on your videos are extremely low. I have you turned up to the max and I can barely hear you. Is it me?
Thank you for this. I’m current working on my first non-fiction book, children’s books are on my radar as an add on to my niche. Just wondering, can you still make decent profit with high illustration books as I believe amazon charge more based on illustration quality, size and colours ?
I am an artist who has decided to take a step into making a children's book. I have been looking at MANY videos on here and there are so many that use AI it's seriously disheartening.. I truly appreciate this tutorial and it has helped me understand where i need to start.
Being able to hire and adequately pay a talented artist to create beautiful illustrations is the biggest hurdle to overcome in this entire process. It takes a long time to create high quality illustrations, and a lot of money to pay someone to do it for you without rushing them or ending up with mediocre results. What can be done about it? Well, if you’re like me, you are now learning to create your own art -it takes time! It will be worth it, 100% 😊
When writing my children's book, should I only be concentrating on words? And not illustrations? I have this idea for a children's book but actually haven't put words down on paper because i'm too focused on what the illustration will be. Should I write the words first and then work with illustrator? Thank you! Love the video! I subscribed.
