I like this chap, potty undoubtedly but very intelligent, and with humour. Good show. The interviewer is a lovely person. And very good at her profession. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
Read a lot of books is how to understand how to write. I learnt to write by reading and writing my stories as a child. I went on to study literature and childhood development and spent a year in a school-in 1983. Write about what they like sweets, ice cream and rude noises. Friendship and annoying teachers and grown ups. Use Imagination, include emotions as being human. When you are with children and in touch with them you will learn how to write for them. It is not an intellectual exercise. You have to sit there and do it. And re-write many times. No quick fix
or maybe they just understand that they are men and choose not to speak for women … i wouldn’t want a man telling me about women’s issues just as i wouldn’t want a woman trying to explain men’s issues. also, when we create, we tell the truth and part of his truth is that he is having a male experience
1. Write a few words and start having a conversation to see if it is what you want. 2. Write to your childhood self and mix it up with other kid's perspective. 3. You choose what you'd want to linger after the full stop. This is what I got from him. Cheers!
It's funny he talks about plagiarising something at 7, I did the same thing when I was around that age. We had to write a play and I adapted a story written by Enid Blyton.
Knowing how to communicate with children is a gift and mystery at the same time. This video is excellent and enlightening.
So many nuggets of wisdom. And what a wonderful interviewer.
He is absolutely charming and I also loved the interviewer
I got a 20 second unskippable French toothpaste ad

Rhythms and rhymes is part of the training in early years
He lost me at men stuff. Male writers forget there are other genders in the world and write about them …..bit old
or maybe they just understand that they are men and choose not to speak for women … i wouldn’t want a man telling me about women’s issues just as i wouldn’t want a woman trying to explain men’s issues. also, when we create, we tell the truth and part of his truth is that he is having a male experience

While this is enjoyable, Michael Rosen DOES NOT share any secrets to writing for kids
1. Write a few words and start having a conversation to see if it is what you want.
2. Write to your childhood self and mix it up with other kid's perspective.
3. You choose what you'd want to linger after the full stop.
This is what I got from him. Cheers!
